If a vMix video ends but you want your YouTube broadcast to continue, keep the vMix stream running and make playback move on to another video or loop. Use PlayList for a small group of loaded inputs, or a List input for a video sequence that should play back-to-back or at random. Ending playback of one video is not the same as ending the broadcast; stopping the stream in vMix ends the YouTube stream in vMix’s documented Live Stream Now workflow.
Choose the right vMix playback option
Both options can keep video content moving while the broadcast remains live. The difference is how you organize the videos and whether you need all the inputs loaded at once.
| Option | Best for | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| PlayList | A short sequence of already loaded vMix inputs | Plays inputs back-to-back on a constant loop. |
| List input | A longer video sequence, especially when loading every file at once could consume system resources | Plays videos back-to-back, can loop, and can randomize playback. It does not require loading every video at once. |
These are continuous-playback methods, not fixed time-of-day programming. vMix says it does not support time-of-day scheduling for 24/7 television programming; its PlayList and List options are alternatives when videos do not need to start at specific clock times. See vMix’s scheduling guidance.
Set up a continuous loop
Use PlayList for a small set of loaded inputs
- Load the videos you want to play as separate inputs in vMix.
- Open the vMix PlayList and add the inputs in the order you want them to play.
- Enable the constant loop behavior for the PlayList so it returns to the beginning after the final input.
- Start the PlayList and confirm that the next input begins when the current one finishes.
The exact control labels and click-by-click path can vary by vMix version; consult the installed version’s interface and the official PlayList instructions.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use a List input for a larger sequence
- Add a List input and select the videos to include in the sequence.
- Set the playback order, or enable randomization if you do not want a fixed sequence.
- Enable looping so playback continues after the last video.
- Put the List input on air and verify that playback advances and loops as intended.
A List can be useful when a large collection would be costly to load as many separate inputs. vMix says a List plays videos back-to-back and can loop, while avoiding the need to load every video at once; check vMix’s List guidance for your version.
Keep the YouTube broadcast active
The playback sequence supplies the video; the encoder connection keeps the broadcast going. YouTube’s encoder instructions say a stream ends when the encoder stops sending content: “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.” So do not finish or stop the vMix stream merely because one video input has ended. In vMix’s documented YouTube Live Stream Now workflow, finishing the stream in vMix automatically ends it on YouTube as well. That behavior is specific to the documented workflow; the guide was last updated March 16, 2021.

For the encoder connection, YouTube uses a Live server URL and stream key. YouTube describes the stream key as identifying where the encoder sends its feed and allowing YouTube to accept it. Select the YouTube Live server URL in the encoder configuration and enter the stream key associated with the intended live stream. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide and stream settings guidance.
YouTube’s help also describes auto-start and auto-stop settings in stream settings. Check the current controls in Live Control Room for your account and workflow; do not assume they override the need for vMix to keep sending content.

Check the loop before relying on it
- Confirm the next video starts after the current one ends, rather than leaving the output without video.
- Confirm the final item returns to the first item when looping is enabled.
- Confirm vMix remains connected and sending content to YouTube throughout the transition.
- Use PlayList when the sequence is a small group of inputs already loaded; consider List when the collection is larger or you want random playback.
- If you need programming to start at specific times of day, note that vMix’s documented PlayList and List approach is not a time-of-day scheduler.
Troubleshoot a stream that ends or goes blank
The YouTube broadcast ends when one video finishes
Check whether the vMix stream itself is being stopped at the end of the video. Configure the next input or loop in PlayList or List, and leave the stream active. YouTube’s encoder guidance says the stream ends when the encoder stops sending content.
The video ends but the broadcast stays live with no useful content
Check the PlayList or List sequence and loop setting. Make sure another video is queued, the sequence is configured to repeat, and the playback input is on air.

The stream ends when you finish vMix
That is expected in vMix’s documented Live Stream Now workflow: finishing the stream in vMix also ends it in YouTube. Stop it only when you intend to end the YouTube broadcast.
A large collection strains the setup
Consider using a List rather than loading each video as a separate input. vMix specifically notes that loading all videos at once can consume system resources, while List can play videos without loading them all at once.
