OBS Studio can automatically reconnect after a connection drops while OBS is still running. That setting does not, by itself, relaunch OBS after the application crashes. For a 24/7 meditation stream, treat an internet interruption and an OBS process crash as different failures—and check YouTube Studio after either recovery, because restoring OBS’s output does not guarantee the intended YouTube broadcast is live again.
First identify what stopped
A stream can fail at two separate points: OBS may stop sending video, or YouTube may stop showing the broadcast as live. A computer losing its connection while OBS remains open is different from OBS closing or crashing. The distinction determines what can recover automatically.
| Failure | What may recover it | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Network or connection interruption; OBS remains open | OBS automatic reconnect can retry the output connection. Network, ingest-server, or security-software issues may still need attention. | OBS reconnects, and the intended YouTube broadcast is live and receiving the meditation video. |
| OBS process exits or crashes | A separate process supervisor or operator restart is needed to start OBS again. The OBS reconnect setting cannot be assumed to relaunch a stopped application. | OBS has relaunched with the intended scene and media, output is flowing, and the correct YouTube event is live. |
OBS documents reconnect controls and connection troubleshooting, but the available documentation does not establish a universal watchdog setup that safely relaunches OBS and resumes the same YouTube broadcast across operating systems and versions. Do not assume a restart mechanism will restore the full chain without testing it on your own setup.
When OBS is still running: configure and troubleshoot reconnect
OBS Studio’s automatic reconnect is intended for an output connection interruption while the application is running. Its settings include whether to reconnect, a retry delay, and a maximum number of retries. Labels and exact settings can vary with the OBS version; the current English interface strings are available in the OBS Studio English locale strings.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Enable automatic reconnect in OBS. In the stream or output settings, enable the automatic reconnect option. Set a retry delay and maximum retries appropriate for the instability you expect. A longer retry window gives a temporary outage more time to clear; it does not fix an ongoing network problem.
- Check the connection path. OBS identifies dropped frames and intermittent disconnections as signs of a connection problem between your computer and the ingest server. Check the network connection and the selected ingest destination. Security software can also interfere with the connection; OBS suggests investigating it, and notes that restarting modem or router equipment can resolve some connectivity problems. These steps address connection trouble, not an OBS process crash. See the OBS stream connection troubleshooting guide.
- Check YouTube Studio, not just OBS. Confirm the broadcast you intend to use is receiving data and that its watch page is live. Seeing OBS reconnect is not proof that viewers can see the intended event.
When OBS crashes: restart the process, then verify the broadcast
Once OBS has stopped, its in-app reconnect feature is no longer running. Restarting OBS requires a separate mechanism, such as an operator restarting the application or a process supervisor configured for the computer. The available sources do not verify a particular watchdog, command, or scheduled task that will reliably restart OBS with the correct scene and resume the same YouTube broadcast. Treat any such setup as platform- and version-specific, and test it before relying on it unattended.
Before putting a recovery setup into service, test the whole path rather than just whether OBS opens:

- OBS starts after the failure and loads the intended scene and meditation media.
- The stream output connects and sends data to YouTube.
- YouTube Studio shows the intended broadcast in the expected state, and the watch page is live for viewers.
- The video and audio are the intended ones, rather than a blank scene, a stopped playlist, or an unintended source.
YouTube’s Auto-start and Auto-stop options affect how a scheduled broadcast transitions when an encoder connects or disconnects. They are not a guarantee that every OBS crash will resume the same event automatically. The OBS Project forum’s YouTube guide discussing those controls was created in 2015, so check the current YouTube Studio interface and verify the behavior on your channel rather than relying on old interface instructions. YouTube broadcasts may also eventually end after extended periods without streaming input; the cited forum guide does not establish a current, precise timeout to rely on.
Protect the meditation viewing experience
If viewers need to rewind a long meditation stream, account for YouTube’s DVR limitation: YouTube says DVR capability may be limited or unavailable for live streams longer than 12 hours. That is a playback limitation, not an OBS recovery setting. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.

Use music, chants, spoken guidance, and visuals only when you have the necessary rights or permission. A stream that runs continuously is still subject to YouTube’s copyright rules. Also make the stream meaningfully useful and distinct: repeatedly broadcasting material you do not own or adding little original value can create copyright and monetization risks. A continuous loop is not a substitute for rights clearance or compliance with YouTube policies.
