If a viewer’s Super Chat is reversed, check the records in YouTube Studio and ask eligible Creator Support about the account-level adjustment. YouTube’s published guidance does not describe a creator-facing process to appeal an individual card chargeback or guarantee recovery. For a buyer who did not make a charge, YouTube has a separate unauthorized-purchase reporting process with a stated 120-day window.
First, distinguish a refund request from an unauthorized charge
YouTube describes Super Chats as voluntary, non-refundable payments. A buyer who regrets a Super Chat is not in the same situation as an account holder who says they did not make the purchase. YouTube directs the latter to its unauthorized-charge reporting process; its separate refund guidance for Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks says those voluntary payments are non-refundable.
- Voluntary purchase: YouTube says Super Chats are non-refundable.
- Charge the account holder says they did not make: follow YouTube’s unauthorized-charge steps. The support-reporting window YouTube states is 120 days from the transaction; that is YouTube’s reporting window, not a deadline established here for a bank or card issuer.
What a creator can do after a reversal
YouTube’s creator guidance explains how to review purchase records and Supers revenue and how eligible creators can contact support. It does not document a Studio button or other creator process to challenge a viewer’s individual chargeback. A reversal alone also does not establish who initiated it or why.
- Find the relevant purchase record. Sign in to the YouTube account connected to the channel and open YouTube Studio. YouTube says Studio shows Super Chat and Super Sticker purchases from the past 30 days. See Manage YouTube Super Chat and Super Stickers for live chat.
- Check the Supers revenue report. In YouTube Analytics, review the Supers revenue view for the relevant period. YouTube says creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google after local sales taxes and iOS App Store fees are deducted. That share is not necessarily 70% of the viewer’s original gross payment.
- Keep a factual record. Note the stream date, the transaction details visible in Studio, and any YouTube notice or payment adjustment. This is practical record-keeping, not a YouTube-prescribed chargeback evidence packet, and sending it does not guarantee a different outcome.
- Ask Creator Support if eligible. Use the Help Center or chat in YouTube Studio, where available to eligible creators. Ask about the specific account-level adjustment; do not assume support can reverse it. YouTube describes eligibility and contact routes in Get help as a YouTube Creator.
Avoid publicly accusing a viewer or sharing private transaction details based only on a reversal. The published guidance does not identify the person who disputed a payment or explain an issuer’s decision.

If you are the buyer and did not authorize the purchase
Use YouTube’s process for an unauthorized charge rather than treating a voluntary Super Chat refund request as the same case. YouTube says to report an unauthorized digital purchase within 120 days of the transaction. The steps in its Report unauthorized charges on YouTube guidance are:
- Check whether the statement entry matches a YouTube charge. If it does not match the formats YouTube lists, contact the card issuer.
- Ask family members or friends who may have access to the account or payment method whether they made the purchase; YouTube notes that a child or another person may have made an accidental purchase.
- If no one known made it, report the charge to YouTube support within the stated 120-day window.
- Keep the email address used to submit the report and the claim ID YouTube sends by email; YouTube says these are needed to find and track the claim.
- If you discover the purchase was unauthorized but accidental rather than fraud, follow YouTube’s direction to request a refund on its website.
Do not confuse chargebacks with other earnings adjustments
YouTube’s monetization policy and partner-earnings guidance discuss withholding, adjusting, charging back, or offsetting creator earnings in connection with policy violations and related investigations. Those policy provisions should not be treated as an explanation of a particular viewer’s card dispute or as a creator appeal route for it. For an account-specific change, use the records and eligible support path above.
