To let someone start a YouTube live stream, invite them in YouTube Studio under Settings → Permissions and assign a role that can manage live streams. Choose Manager if they also need to administer channel permissions; choose Editor if they need to manage streams but not permissions. After accepting the invitation, the delegate must start the broadcast from YouTube Live Control Room.
Invite the person in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio with an account that can manage the channel’s permissions.
- In the left menu, select Settings, then Permissions.
- Select Invite, enter the person’s email address, and choose the appropriate role under Access.
- Select Done. The invitee must accept the invitation before they can use the channel access. YouTube invitations expire after 30 days. See YouTube’s channel permissions guidance.
The invitee should sign in to YouTube with the account that received the invitation. Do not share the channel owner’s Google password: role-based permissions provide access without sharing Google Account sign-in details.
Choose the right role

For the specific task of starting a stream, YouTube lists both Manager and Editor as roles that can manage live streams. Assign only the access the person needs; Editor cannot invite or manage other users.
Where the delegate starts the live stream
- The delegate signs in using the invited account and opens YouTube Studio.
- Select Create → Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Start the stream from Live Control Room. YouTube says channel delegates can start a live stream only from YouTube Live Control Room. For an encoder stream, the encoder sends the feed; the operator checks the preview and starts the broadcast in Live Control Room. If Permissions or Go Live is unavailable
The invite controls are missing
If the channel uses Brand Account access, YouTube says its owner must first migrate to channel permissions before using this invite workflow. Follow YouTube’s instructions for migrating from Brand Account access to channel permissions, then return to Settings → Permissions.

The delegate cannot start a stream
- Confirm that the invitation was accepted and the delegate is signed in to the invited account.
- Check that the delegate has Manager or Editor access, not Viewer access.
- Use Live Control Room to start the stream; delegate access does not allow starting from other routes.
- Check the channel’s eligibility: YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube also requires streamers to be at least 16. A role assignment does not override these requirements. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
