Streamlabs Talk Studio runs in a web browser, so you can set up a camera and microphone, invite guests, and either go live or record without installing desktop software. Start by checking your connection and browser, grant device permissions, then test your audio and video before choosing a destination or beginning a recording.
What you need before opening Talk Studio
Streamlabs’ Talk Studio getting-started guide, last updated October 1, 2025, says the platform needs no installation and recommends Google Chrome or Safari and a stable internet connection, preferably Ethernet. Its upload figures are vendor guidance, not a performance guarantee:

Check upload speed on the same network and in the same location where you plan to stream. If other people or devices will use that connection, leave headroom beyond the listed recommendation.
Sign in and allow your camera and microphone
- Open Streamlabs Talk Studio and sign in with your Streamlabs account. If you are new, create a Streamlabs ID, verify your email, then continue into Talk Studio. Available login options are described in Streamlabs’ login guide; Ultra subscribers are advised to use a Streamlabs ID unless Support directs otherwise.
- When the browser asks for camera and microphone access, choose Allow. If you dismissed the prompt or do not see it, open the browser’s site controls, permit camera and microphone access for the Talk Studio site, then refresh.
- In the studio, select the camera and microphone you intend to use. Speak and check that your picture and audio are coming through before inviting guests or starting the session.
A built-in camera and microphone can be enough to get started; Streamlabs does not require a particular external microphone. A USB microphone, headphones, webcam, or lighting are optional choices, not prerequisites endorsed by Streamlabs.

Choose whether to go live or record privately
To broadcast live
Add or select the destination you want to broadcast to, then enter the stream title, description, and any relevant platform category. Confirm your camera, microphone, and layout before selecting Go Live. Destination options and connection steps can vary by platform, so follow the prompts shown in your account.
To record without broadcasting
Before starting a recording-only session, open Settings > Output and enable Cloud Recording, Local Recording, or both. Then begin the recording without selecting a live destination. Streamlabs documents the recording controls and behaviors in its Talk Studio recording guide.

Choose a recording mode

Streamlabs’ recording guide, last updated September 16, 2025, lists per-session maximums of 4 hours on Standard and 10 hours on Pro. Plan details can change; check the current plan information in your account if a session may run close to its limit.
Invite guests and put them on the stream
- Select Add Guest and copy the invitation link or send it by email.
- Guests who join appear in a queue. Select Show on stream to move a guest into the editor and include them in the broadcast.
- Check their picture and audio in the layout. Streamlabs warns that a guest’s microphone is not heard until the guest is moved to Show on stream.
If you need another person to help operate the session, invite a cohost through the Team section. Streamlabs says a cohost can manage guests, design elements, layouts, intro/outro video, and configuration.

End the session and save your files
- For a live broadcast, select End Stream.
- For a recording-only session, select Stop Recording.
- If you stream and record together, Streamlabs says ending the stream also ends the paired recording.
- Download recordings you want to keep before their applicable retention period expires.
Troubleshoot common first-session problems
