Running an always-on stream does not create a separate membership eligibility route or waive YouTube’s channel requirements.
Check membership eligibility in India
India is on YouTube’s channel-membership availability list, but location alone does not make a channel eligible. YouTube’s published threshold for memberships is 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the past 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours from long-form videos in the past 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the past 90 days. The watch-hours and Shorts-view figures are alternative routes; the subscriber and upload requirements apply to both. YouTube’s monetization feature requirements are subject to change.
- The creator must be at least 18 and live in a location where memberships are available.
- The channel must be accepted into the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) and comply with applicable monetization policies. YouTube reviews channels and may withhold features when conditions are not met.
- The channel must not be set as Made for Kids or otherwise be ineligible for memberships.
- You must accept the Commerce Product Module to earn channel-membership revenue.
Check the channel’s status in Studio: meeting the public thresholds does not guarantee that YouTube will approve or display the feature.
Turn memberships on in YouTube Studio
- On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio for the channel.
- Select Earn in the left menu.
- Open the Memberships tab. YouTube displays it when the channel is eligible for the feature.
- Select Get started and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Accept the Commerce Product Module if prompted. YouTube says this agreement is required to earn channel-membership revenue.
- Set up membership levels and choose the perks to offer. Review the displayed details before publishing them to viewers.
Memberships may not appear immediately after YPP acceptance. YouTube says it may conduct a separate eligibility review for memberships, which can take up to two days. If the tab is missing, check the channel’s eligibility and Studio again after that review period. See YouTube Help: Turn channel memberships on or off.

Does an always-on stream affect eligibility?
YouTube’s published membership criteria do not list continuous or always-on streaming as a special condition. The same thresholds and channel-level requirements apply whether the channel streams occasionally or keeps a stream running. Continuous streaming by itself does not qualify a channel or guarantee that the Memberships tab will appear.
Going live has separate prerequisites: YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its guidance covers mobile, webcam and encoder streaming; these are ways to operate a live stream, not membership requirements. Check YouTube’s live-streaming guidance for the current requirements.

Choose membership levels and perks that fit the channel
Channel memberships let viewers make recurring monthly payments in return for creator-defined benefits. In Studio, configure supported perks that you can deliver consistently. YouTube describes options including badges, emoji, member recognition, members-only live chat, and members-only live streams, videos and Shorts. The available features and configuration options are described in YouTube Help about channel-membership perks.
For a public always-on stream
Members-only live chat can be one perk alongside a public stream. YouTube documents a setting for enabling members-only chat in stream settings. Keep the public broadcast and member benefit distinct in your channel description so viewers understand what joining changes.

For members-only videos
YouTube says members-only videos must be fully original and must not include videos with copyright claims. Check rights to all footage, music and other material before offering a video as a member benefit; an always-on format does not exempt content from copyright or monetization policies.
If the Memberships tab is missing
- YPP acceptance is recent: YouTube may still be conducting its separate membership eligibility review; it can take up to two days.
- A threshold is not met: Check subscribers, public uploads in the last 90 days, and the relevant qualified watch-hours or Shorts-views route in Studio.
- Location or channel conditions do not qualify: India is supported, but the channel must also meet YouTube’s age, channel-status, Made for Kids and policy conditions.
- The CPM has not been accepted: Follow the Memberships setup prompts and accept the module if it is presented.
- You are checking live-stream access rather than memberships: Verification and the absence of recent live-stream restrictions are separate live-stream prerequisites, not extra membership thresholds.
For the channel’s definitive status, use the Earn area in YouTube Studio and YouTube’s current help pages; published requirements and feature availability can change.
