How to Fix the SiriusXM App Not Working

SiriusXM not working? Use this decision tree to fix launch, freezing, playback, buffering, sound, login, subscription, Android Auto, CarPlay, TV, and web-player problems without accidentally canceling your plan.

Most SiriusXM app failures can be isolated without immediately reinstalling the app. First test another channel, the web player, or another device; then update the app and device, force-close and restart, check your account and network, and only then clear data or reinstall. The correct fix depends on whether the failure is in the app, account, network, audio output, vehicle integration, TV platform, or SiriusXM’s service.

Start here: identify which part is failing

“The SiriusXM app is not working” can mean several different things: it may not open, freeze, reject your login, fail to start a channel, buffer, play without sound, lose favorites in Android Auto or CarPlay, or fail on a TV or streaming player. The fastest fix is to test the failure before making destructive changes.

  1. Test the SiriusXM web player or another device. If both fail on the same account, the problem may be with SiriusXM, your account, or your network rather than the app installation.
  2. Test another channel. One channel failing is different from all playback failing.
  3. Test the phone speaker. If the phone plays audio but a car, Bluetooth speaker, AirPlay target, or TV does not, troubleshoot the output connection instead of reinstalling the app.
  4. Compare Wi-Fi with cellular data. If playback works on one connection but not the other, the network is the likely cause.

Once you know which branch applies, follow the least destructive steps below. Do not begin by deleting the app: reinstalling does not cancel a subscription, and clearing app data can remove login information or downloaded content.

Quick decision tree

What you see Best first steps
The app will not open or keeps freezing Update the app and device, force-close it, restart the device, then reinstall if necessary.
The app opens but a channel will not play Try another channel, check the network and audio output, then test the web player or another device.
Playback buffers or stops Compare Wi-Fi with cellular data, move closer to the router if appropriate, and check whether other devices have the same problem.
There is no sound Check mute, volume, Bluetooth, casting, AirPlay, and the selected car or speaker output. Test the phone speaker.
Login or subscription information is missing Recover the account, confirm the sign-in method and billing provider, and contact the correct provider if the subscription was purchased elsewhere.
Only Android Auto, CarPlay, a TV, or a streaming player fails Update both sides of the connection, reconnect the device, and test SiriusXM directly on the phone or web player.
The app, web player, and several devices all fail Look for a possible SiriusXM service or account problem and contact SiriusXM rather than repeatedly reinstalling.

1. Check whether SiriusXM itself is having a problem

Before changing passwords or deleting anything, open the SiriusXM web player or sign in on another device using the same account. If the app, web player, and multiple devices fail at the same time, a damaged app installation is unlikely to be the only explanation.

  • Voice Clarity Enhancement: VoiceMX technology uses advanced DSP algorithms to isolate and enhance vocal frequencies in real time. Dialogue remains crisp and easy to follow by separating speech from background effects and music, even at low volumes or during intense scenes.
  • 300W Output with 6-Driver System: Featuring five precision-tuned full-range drivers and a dedicated wired wooden subwoofer, the system delivers up to 300W of peak power for bold, room-filling sound. With a frequency response of 45 Hz–18 kHz and a maximum SPL of 99 dB, it reproduces everything from subtle nuances to explosive cinematic effects.
  • 18 mm High-Excursion Driver: Powered by BassMX technology, the wired wooden subwoofer features a 18 mm high-excursion driver, a 5.3L tuned cabinet, and a high-density magnetic circuit. This design delivers deeper, tighter bass with greater air displacement and enhanced low-frequency performance—bringing more realism to every scene.
  • HDMI eARC for True Dolby Atmos: HDMI eARC supports up to 37 Mbps of bandwidth, unlocking the full potential of lossless Dolby Atmos 5.1-channel audio. Compared to standard ARC, eARC delivers richer surround effects and greater detail. CEC integration allows the TV and soundbar to work together with unified control.

SiriusXM’s public help material does not provide a dedicated real-time incident dashboard in the sources reviewed. Third-party outage sites can provide informal signals, but user reports are not official confirmation of a SiriusXM outage. If only your phone fails while the web player works, continue with local troubleshooting. If everything fails, record the time and error message and contact SiriusXM support.

2. Update SiriusXM and your device

Open the official app store for your device and install any available SiriusXM update. Then check for an operating-system update on the phone, tablet, TV, or streaming player.

  • iPhone or iPad: open the App Store, select your account or profile, and check the pending updates list.
  • Android: open Google Play, select your profile, choose Manage apps & device, and install available updates.
  • TV or streaming player: use the device’s system-update menu before reinstalling SiriusXM.

The Google Play listing showed a SiriusXM update described as bug fixes and experience improvements during the research pass. Store versions and operating-system requirements change, so do not treat a particular version number as a permanent requirement. SiriusXM’s listed TV and streaming platforms include Samsung televisions, Roku, Fire TV/Fire Stick, Android TV, and Comcast/X1, Flex, or XClass devices. Its platform instructions have listed Roku 11.0 and Android TV 7, but these requirements are volatile and should be checked against the current SiriusXM support page.

3. Force-close and reopen the app

A stuck playback session or frozen interface often clears when the app is fully closed rather than merely minimized.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • iPhone or iPad: open the multitasking view, find SiriusXM, and swipe it away. Reopen it and test a live channel.
  • Android: open recent apps and swipe SiriusXM away. Reopen it and test playback.

Force-closing the Android app normally preserves your login information. Tapping Log Out inside SiriusXM is different: it deliberately removes the active sign-in session.

4. Restart the device

Restart the phone, tablet, TV, or streaming player after force-closing the app. This can clear a stalled audio session, Bluetooth connection, casting process, or Android Auto/CarPlay connection. On a vehicle system, restart the infotainment system only in a safe, manufacturer-supported way; do not operate menus while driving.

For a TV or streaming player, update its operating system first if an update is available. A restart is standard device troubleshooting, not a guaranteed SiriusXM-specific fix.

5. Fix login, password, and subscription errors

Recover the account instead of guessing repeatedly

If SiriusXM rejects your credentials, use its account-recovery process for a forgotten username or password. If you never created online access, register an account. Depending on the device, SiriusXM may offer passwordless sign-in such as a passkey or one-time verification code; some connected devices may still require a password.

Check that you are using the same email address, username, phone number, or sign-in method associated with the subscription. A successful sign-in to a different account can make favorites, library items, or subscription access appear to be missing.

Confirm who bills the subscription

Subscriptions purchased through Apple, Google Play, Roku, or another external provider are managed and billed by that provider. If SiriusXM reports an entitlement, renewal, refund, or cancellation problem, reinstalling the app cannot change the billing relationship. Contact the provider that processed the purchase for billing and subscription-management questions.

Deleting the SiriusXM app does not cancel a subscription. Neither does simply stopping use of the service or selling and trading in a vehicle. Cancel through SiriusXM or the external provider that bills you.

If you are trying to determine whether you have an active plan, check the account page or the billing provider’s subscription list before buying another plan. Readers who need to review available SiriusXM streaming plans should use the official account or acquisition path and verify which provider would handle payment.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

6. Test the network

Switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data, or test another trusted network. This helps show whether the failure follows the device or the connection.

  • If SiriusXM works on cellular data but not home Wi-Fi, restart the router and check whether other streaming services are also affected.
  • If it works on Wi-Fi but not cellular data, check mobile-data permissions, your data connection, and any carrier restrictions.
  • If playback fails on every network and device, the issue is more likely account-wide or service-side.

Do not assume a VPN or location-spoofing tool will solve the problem. SiriusXM’s service terms restrict streaming to its service area and prohibit manipulating or spoofing a web device’s location. A VPN may also make account or playback verification less reliable.

7. Reset the SiriusXM web player

If the browser player is the part that fails, use SiriusXM’s documented reset sequence:

  1. Log out of the web player.
  2. Clear the browser’s cache and cookies.
  3. Close the browser completely.
  4. Open a new browser window.
  5. Return to the web player and sign in again.

Browser playback can be affected by the browser, computer, home wiring, network, cellular service, or internet provider. If the player works in a private window but not a normal window, an extension, stale cookie, or browser setting may be interfering. Temporarily test with extensions disabled, especially those that block scripts or audio, without installing untrusted “repair” utilities.

8. Clear app cache or reinstall

Use this step only after updating, force-closing, restarting, checking the connection, and signing in again.

Android

Android menus vary by manufacturer, but the usual path is Settings > Apps > SiriusXM > Storage. Start with Clear cache. If that does not help, Clear storage or Clear data may reset the app more completely.

Before clearing stored data, make sure you know how you sign in. Clearing data can remove login state and downloaded content. A SiriusXM response shown in the Google Play listing advised an Android user to clear the app cache and data, restart the device, and review app permissions before contacting support.

iPhone, iPad, TV, or streaming player

If the platform does not expose a safe cache-reset control, uninstall SiriusXM and reinstall it from the official app store. Sign in again and test a live channel before restoring additional connections such as Bluetooth, casting, CarPlay, or Android Auto.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Reinstallation repairs a corrupted local installation; it does not repair a canceled subscription, an incorrect account, a provider billing issue, or a SiriusXM service outage.

9. Check sound, mute, permissions, and output

If the app appears to play but you hear nothing, test audio through the phone or tablet’s built-in speaker first.

  • Raise the device’s media volume and check the physical mute switch or software mute state.
  • Look for an active Bluetooth connection to earbuds, a vehicle, speaker, or receiver.
  • Disconnect casting or AirPlay temporarily and retry through the phone speaker.
  • Check SiriusXM’s pause control; on smaller-screen devices it functions as the mute equivalent.
  • Review the app’s permissions and the device’s mobile-data permissions if playback will not start.

For AirPlay, the iPhone or iPad and the Apple TV or speaker must be on the same network. You can select an AirPlay target through the app’s Connect to Device control. If phone-speaker playback works but the external target does not, troubleshoot the target, network, or connection rather than the SiriusXM account.

10. Troubleshoot Android Auto and Apple CarPlay separately

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are supported listening paths, but a vehicle-interface failure does not prove that the core SiriusXM app is broken. First open SiriusXM directly on the phone. If it plays there:

  1. Disconnect and reconnect the phone.
  2. Check that the phone, SiriusXM app, and vehicle software are current.
  3. Restart the vehicle infotainment system if the manufacturer permits it.
  4. Check the vehicle’s audio source and volume.
  5. Test again before changing account settings or reinstalling.

User reviews may report Android Auto playback or library problems, but those reports are anecdotal and do not establish a platform-wide defect. If live playback works on the phone and web player but favorites or the library are missing only in the vehicle interface, report that specific integration symptom to SiriusXM.

11. Fix SiriusXM on a TV or streaming player

Update the TV or streaming device, restart it, and test SiriusXM directly on that device. If possible, sign in on the phone or web player to determine whether the account works elsewhere.

The current support material reviewed lists Samsung TVs, Roku, Fire TV/Fire Stick, Android TV, and Comcast/X1, Flex, or XClass devices. Platform support and minimum software versions can change. Do not buy a new TV or streaming device merely because the app fails: first confirm that the device is currently supported and that the account plays on another platform.

When to contact SiriusXM

Contact SiriusXM when:

  • the app still fails after updating, restarting, reauthenticating, testing another network, and reinstalling;
  • the account works on one platform but not another;
  • your paid subscription or entitlement is missing;
  • the app, web player, and multiple devices fail at once; or
  • you receive an error message that the steps above do not explain.

Have this information ready:

  • phone, tablet, TV, or streaming-player model;
  • operating-system version and SiriusXM app version;
  • the exact error text;
  • the account sign-in method;
  • whether the web player works;
  • whether the problem occurs on Wi-Fi, cellular data, or both;
  • whether direct phone playback works when Android Auto, CarPlay, Bluetooth, or casting fails.

This gives support a reproducible failure instead of a general report that the app is “not working.”

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What not to do

  • Do not repeatedly guess a password; use account recovery.
  • Do not assume third-party outage reports are official SiriusXM confirmation.
  • Do not clear app data without recording your login method.
  • Do not expect uninstalling the app to cancel billing.
  • Do not use a VPN or location-spoofing tool as a guaranteed workaround.
  • Do not buy a phone mount, charging cable, router, or computer-cleaning utility as a presumed SiriusXM repair. Those products may solve a separate setup or hardware problem, but they do not repair the app itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will deleting the SiriusXM app cancel my subscription?

No. Uninstalling SiriusXM does not cancel a subscription. Cancel through SiriusXM or the external provider that bills you, such as Apple, Google Play, or Roku.

How can I tell whether SiriusXM is down for everyone?

Test SiriusXM on another device or through the web player. If everything fails, the problem may be account-wide or service-side. Third-party outage reports are only informal signals, so contact SiriusXM for confirmation and help.

Why does SiriusXM play but have no sound?

Start with the phone’s built-in speaker. Then check device volume, mute, Bluetooth, casting, AirPlay, and the selected vehicle or speaker output. For AirPlay, both devices must be on the same network.

What should I do if SiriusXM says my login or subscription is invalid?

Use account recovery rather than guessing. If the subscription was purchased through Apple, Google Play, Roku, or another external service, that provider handles payment, renewal, refunds, and cancellation.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I clear SiriusXM app data or reinstall it?

Yes, but only as a later step. Clear cache first where available, and record your login method because clearing stored data or reinstalling can remove login state and downloaded content.

The Bottom Line

The most reliable order is: test another channel and device, update SiriusXM and the operating system, force-close and restart, recover the account, compare networks, check audio output, then clear cache or reinstall. If every device fails or the subscription is missing, stop reinstalling and contact SiriusXM or the provider that bills the subscription.
