Crunchyroll’s “Oops, Something Went Wrong” message is a generic symptom, not a single error code. It can appear while signing in, browsing the catalog, or starting a video, and the right fix depends on where it happens.
Start by trying another episode, then another browser or device, and—if possible—a different network. If Crunchyroll works in one of those tests, focus on the original device, app, browser, or connection. If it fails across multiple devices and networks, repeated reinstalls are unlikely to help; contact Crunchyroll Support or try again later.
First, identify where the error appears
Note whether the message appears before login, while loading the home page or catalog, or only after pressing Play. That distinction helps narrow the likely cause: login failures may involve cookies, JavaScript, or a stale session; catalog failures can be related to loading, network, or service conditions; and playback failures can involve protected content, extensions, or a particular video.
Use these quick tests before changing settings:
- Close and reopen Crunchyroll. Fully quit the app or close the browser tab, reopen it, then reload the page or retry the episode. Crunchyroll recommends a restart or refresh as an initial response to loading problems (Crunchyroll loading troubleshooting).
- Try another episode. If only one fails, note the show, season, episode, audio language, and any point in the video where the failure occurs. A single-title problem is different from a service-wide playback problem.
- Test another browser or device. Try a different supported browser, phone, TV, console, or streaming device. If the second device works, concentrate on the original setup.
- Switch networks. Compare Wi-Fi with mobile data, if available. If only one connection fails, investigate that network rather than repeatedly reinstalling the app.
If Crunchyroll fails in a browser
Work from the least disruptive browser fixes to the more disruptive ones:

- Update the browser, then reload Crunchyroll. The minimum browser versions listed on Crunchyroll’s supported-device page, checked August 18, 2026, are Chrome 123, Firefox 123, Edge 123, and Safari 17.1. Requirements can change, so check the current supported-device list.
- Force a hard refresh: press Ctrl + F5 on Windows or Shift + Command + R on Mac.
- Open Crunchyroll in a private or incognito window and sign in. If it works there, browser data or an extension is a likely factor.
- Temporarily disable ad blockers, script blockers, privacy extensions, or similar add-ons, then retry. Re-enable them one at a time to identify a conflict.
- Clear Crunchyroll’s cookies and cached site data if your browser permits removing data for one site. Otherwise, clear the relevant browsing data, restart the browser, and sign in again. Clearing all cookies may sign you out of other sites.
- If the problem remains, try another supported browser.
Crunchyroll’s support pages list older browser minimums in some playback guidance, but its supported-device page gives the newer requirements above. If the catalog loads but a video will not play
A playback-only failure can point to digital rights management (DRM), also called protected-content playback. Common clues include a working catalog with a video that will not start, a black screen or endless loading, the problem occurring in only one browser, or an error code beginning with MED or SHAK-6.
- Update the browser and check that protected content or DRM playback is enabled. The control varies by browser and operating system, so use Crunchyroll’s browser-specific DRM guidance rather than changing experimental browser settings.
- Disable extensions temporarily, especially ad blockers and script or privacy tools, then test the video again.
- Temporarily turn off a VPN or proxy and retry. Crunchyroll says VPN use is unsupported for browser video playback, and its support guidance identifies VPNs, proxies, and ad blockers as possible playback interferents. This is a diagnostic test, not a guarantee that a VPN is the cause.
- If playback works after a tool is disabled, re-enable tools individually to find the conflict. You can decide whether to leave one disabled or allowlist Crunchyroll, considering the privacy and advertising trade-offs.
Do not assume a playback error is a DRM problem solely because it occurs in a browser; testing another episode, browser, or device helps distinguish causes. Crunchyroll also discusses browser video quality and VPN limitations in its browser video quality guidance.

If login is where the error occurs
When browsing works but sign-in does not, check the session and login path rather than reinstalling a video app first:

- Make sure cookies and JavaScript are enabled in the browser.
- Close duplicate Crunchyroll tabs, then reopen the browser and try again.
- Try a private window or temporarily disable extensions that may interfere with sign-in or reCAPTCHA.
- If reCAPTCHA keeps looping, close all Crunchyroll tabs and start a fresh browser session.

Fix the mobile app
Android
- Force-stop Crunchyroll and restart the phone or tablet.
- Update the app through the official app store and install available Android updates.
- Open Settings → Apps → Crunchyroll → Storage → Clear Cache.
- If clearing the cache does not help, you can choose Clear Data. This resets local app data and signs you out.
- Reinstall the app if the error persists, then test it on another network if possible.

iPhone and iPad
- Force-close Crunchyroll and restart the device.
- Update the app and iOS or iPadOS.
- If the problem continues, delete and reinstall the app, then sign in again.
iOS does not offer the same general app-cache control found on Android. Reinstalling may remove downloads or local settings, depending on the platform and app behavior. Crunchyroll lists iOS 17 as the minimum iOS version on its supported-device page.
Fix Crunchyroll on a TV, console, or streaming device
These devices may not expose a convenient cache-clearing control. Restarting, updating, and reinstalling are the practical first steps:
- Exit the Crunchyroll app and restart the TV, console, or streaming device.
- Check for system or firmware updates, then update Crunchyroll.
- If the device offers a cache-clearing option, use it; otherwise, power-cycle the device.
- Uninstall and reinstall Crunchyroll if the problem continues.
- Test the same account on a phone or browser. If it works there, the issue is more likely specific to the TV, console, or streaming device.
- If available, test another network.

Check your internet connection
If the error changes when you switch networks, troubleshoot the connection that fails:
- Open another website or streaming service to see whether the connection is working generally.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, if available. Crunchyroll recommends this comparison to help identify a network problem.
- Reduce other bandwidth-heavy activity and try Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi if practical.
- Power-cycle the router: unplug it for 10–30 seconds, reconnect it, and wait for the connection to stabilize. This is a restart, not a reset of the router’s settings.
- Try a different network if you can. If Crunchyroll works there, the original network, router, or ISP connection deserves attention.
DNS changes are an optional, advanced step only if simpler network tests point to a name-resolution or ISP-routing problem. They will not fix a service outage, damaged app installation, DRM failure, account issue, or unsupported device. Record your current DNS settings before changing them and restore them if other services stop working. Crunchyroll lists these public DNS options:

Consider account, title, and regional availability
If the error persists, check whether it is limited to a title, profile, or account. Content and access can vary by country or region, so a title unavailable where you are may not indicate a broken app or connection. Traveling, signing into the wrong account, or encountering a subscription entitlement or payment issue can also produce a problem that looks like playback trouble.
- If one title fails but others play, record the title, season, episode, language, and your country or region.
- If only one profile or account is affected, confirm you are signed in with the expected account and sign-in method.
- If your subscription is managed through Apple, Google Play, Amazon, or another partner, check its billing or subscription status there.
Crunchyroll notes that access can vary by region in its loading troubleshooting guidance. Do not rely on a VPN or DNS change to restore regional access; it may add routing or playback problems instead.
When to stop troubleshooting and contact support
If the same error appears across multiple devices and networks after you have tried the relevant basic steps, more cache clearing or reinstalling is unlikely to narrow the cause. Contact Crunchyroll Support, or try again later if the failure appears broad.
Include these details so support can distinguish a device problem from a title, account, or connection issue:

- The exact error text and any code
- The show, season, episode, and language, if playback is involved
- Your device model, operating-system version, and Crunchyroll app version
- Your browser name and version, if you were using a browser
- Your country or region
- Whether it fails on one device or several, and whether another network works
- Screenshots or a screen recording, plus the troubleshooting steps you already tried
