Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallWhen a Streamlabs alert image will not upload, an alert does not appear, or its sound is missing, troubleshoot the failure by symptom: check the file and browser for upload problems; check event selection, visibility, animation and timing for display problems; and check mute, mixer and routing settings for audio problems. Save each change and test the alert before going live.
Start with the alert setup and a test
Streamlabs alerts can be configured in the Streamlabs dashboard, Streamlabs Desktop, through the Streamlabs plugin for OBS, or as an Alert Box browser source in OBS and other supported streaming software. The exact labels and layout can vary with the software version.
- Open the alert settings for the platform and event you want to fix. Confirm the correct platform and event are selected, and that the event is enabled.
- Check the relevant customization. Depending on the alert, this may be an image or video, position, message template, sound, font, animation or duration.
- Save before leaving the settings. Streamlabs’ setup guide warns: “Make sure to press Save Settings in the bottom right before moving to different left-side menu items!” Streamlabs’ alert setup guide describes saving settings and testing alerts.
- Use Live Preview or the alert test function. Check the result in the software or scene that will use it; a dashboard preview alone may not expose a source-order, mixer or routing problem.

Check format and file size
Streamlabs’ Common Errors in Alert Customization article, last updated June 14, 2024, lists GIF, JPEG, PNG, WebM and MP4 for images, and MP3, Ogg and WAV for sounds. It gives a file-size range of 200 KB to 45 MB. These are the specifications stated in that article; if your file is outside the range or uses another format, export or convert it to a listed format and size, then try again.
If the gallery or upload controls do not display
Try a current version of Chrome or Firefox, which Streamlabs recommends when its gallery does not display correctly. If you are using a direct media URL instead of uploading, make sure it points to the actual media file; not every shared-file or hosting link is a direct, usable media URL.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Changing an alert sound
Streamlabs documents three ways to choose a sound: provide an audio URL, upload an audio file, or select an item from the Sounds Library. After choosing the asset, save the settings and test it. See Streamlabs’ instructions for changing Alert Box sounds.
Streamlabs alert not showing, looks wrong, or is stuck
Verify the event, theme and variation
- Confirm the selected platform and event match the alert you are testing, and that the event is enabled.
- Check that the intended widget theme is active and the alert variation has all its required settings. If you suspect a variation is selecting the wrong design or leaving out content, temporarily disable variations and test again.
- Use Live Preview or the software’s test function to see whether the change appears before going live.
Check what can hide or delay the alert
- Source order: Move the Alert Box source higher in the source list if another source is covering it.
- Paused alerts: Check whether alerts are paused.
- Moderation delay: Review the delay and approval settings. Streamlabs says an unlimited moderation delay requires an authorized moderator to accept alerts; alerts that have not been accepted do not play.
- Animation and duration: Check that both show and hide animations have a selection, and that the alert duration is not so short that the alert disappears before you can see it.
Isolate custom code or rendering issues
If custom HTML/CSS is enabled and you did not create or maintain it, temporarily disable it and test the standard alert. Restore only code you intend to use. You can also try toggling browser hardware acceleration as a diagnostic, then restart the streaming software; this is a troubleshooting option, not a guaranteed fix. Streamlabs covers these checks in its Alerts/Widget Troubleshooting guide, last updated April 25, 2025.

Streamlabs alert sound not working
- Check the recent-events mute control. Make sure the alert has not been muted there.
- Check the alert’s sound setting. Confirm the intended file or URL is selected, its volume is audible, and the settings are saved. Test the sound in the dashboard or streaming software.
- Review the audio mixer and monitoring. In Advanced Audio Settings, check the monitoring choice and confirm the alert audio is enabled on a track used by the stream or recording.
- Check the OBS audio route where applicable. In Streamlabs Desktop, inspect the Alert Box source properties for “Route Audio to OBS.” The option and its location may differ between software versions.
If the sound plays in one test location but not in the final stream or recording, focus on track selection, monitoring and routing rather than repeatedly changing the sound file.
Alert repeats, echoes, or shows stale content
Refresh the widget source
If the browser source is showing old content or failing to reflect a saved change, refresh it. If refreshing does not help, remove and re-add the widget source. Streamlabs also recommends signing out and back in to Streamlabs services or relinking the account when the issue appears account-related.

For an alert echo in OBS
Check whether extra pop-out windows are playing the alert. Streamlabs’ OBS-specific guide to fixing alert echoing, last updated April 25, 2025, recommends checking “Shutdown when not active” on the browser source in every relevant scene. If the echo persists, recreate the source.
Clear the browser cache only after simpler checks
Streamlabs lists clearing the broadcasting software’s browser cache as a later troubleshooting step. Its guide gives a cache directory for Windows; that path should not be treated as applicable to macOS. If you use the Windows-specific path, close the broadcasting app first, then follow Streamlabs’ current instructions in its troubleshooting guide. Refreshing or recreating a source and checking the relevant settings are less disruptive first steps.

Streamlabs alert customization not saving
- After changing an alert, use the save control before navigating to another menu or closing the dashboard.
- Run a test after saving to confirm the selected platform, event and alert configuration all reflect the change.
- If the saved result still appears stale in your streaming software, refresh the browser source. If the issue appears tied to the account, sign out and back in or relink it.
Streamlabs’ quick guide to setting up alerts also covers customizing platform-specific images and sounds, adding variations with conditions, saving and testing before going live.
Or let it run in the cloud
