Find the point where the connection breaks before changing settings: a disconnect may come from the encoder, your network or firewall, IBM Video Streaming ingest, or—if YouTube is part of the route—the YouTube leg. Record the time of the next interruption, check the encoder’s connection and dropped-frame indicators, then compare them with IBM’s monitoring tools and YouTube’s live diagnostics where relevant. The title alone does not identify the failing component.
First, map the route your stream actually takes
“IBM Video Streaming YouTube stream” can describe different setups. IBM may be the only destination, YouTube may receive a relay from IBM, or an encoder may send separate outputs to both platforms. The right checks depend on which route you use.
- Encoder to IBM only: Start with the encoder, your network and firewall, and IBM ingest. YouTube diagnostics cannot explain a failure on a route that does not include YouTube.
- Encoder to IBM, then IBM relays to YouTube: Check the encoder-to-IBM path first, then inspect YouTube’s diagnostics for the relay or destination leg.
- Encoder sends separate outputs to IBM and YouTube: Treat each output as a separate connection. One can fail while the other remains live; compare each platform’s status and the encoder’s output indicators.
A frozen or stuttering picture is not necessarily the same as a disconnected stream. Dropped frames point toward a possible encoding or network-capacity problem; a connection that fully drops needs to be traced across the route. Use timestamps and logs rather than assuming that one symptom identifies the cause.
Locate where the disconnect occurs
- Write down the exact time of the next interruption, including the time zone. Note whether the encoder reports a dropped connection, reconnect attempt, or dropped frames, and whether the stream disappears from IBM, YouTube, or both.
- Check the encoder’s output status. If the encoder reports that it lost its connection or is repeatedly reconnecting, investigate the encoder-to-destination path. If it remains connected to IBM while only YouTube stops receiving the stream, investigate the YouTube leg or relay.
- Compare with IBM’s monitoring and troubleshooting tools. IBM’s ECDN network test tool includes traceroute, ping, ingest and port-1935 connectivity, ECDN, FLOT, and broadcast tests. These checks can provide clues about different parts of the path; no single test necessarily identifies every fault.
- Use YouTube live diagnostics only if YouTube is in the route. Check its live-stream error guidance and encoder status for the same timestamp. If IBM is the only output, prioritize the IBM and encoder path instead.
Check upload capacity and encoder load
Stabilize the network connection
- Use wired Ethernet if practical. Wi-Fi interference, shared connections, and congestion can make a connection inconsistent even when a speed test looks adequate at another time.
- IBM recommends that the target stream bitrate not exceed 50% of available upload bandwidth. For example, if the available upload bandwidth is 8 Mbps, keep the target stream bitrate at or below 4 Mbps. Treat available bandwidth as the capacity you can actually sustain while streaming, not just a best-case result from an isolated test.
- If the connection is shared, check for competing uploads or other high-bandwidth use during the interruption. Retest under the conditions in which the stream normally runs.
Reduce encoder pressure as a diagnostic
Close other high-load applications temporarily and see whether dropped frames or interruptions change. IBM notes that HD and higher-bitrate streaming require adequate CPU or GPU resources; when frames drop or the picture stutters, its guidance is to reduce resolution or bitrate. Change one setting at a time and observe the result so you can tell which change helped.

Verify IBM ingest settings and encoding compatibility
Confirm the destination and credentials
In the selected channel’s Broadcast Settings, verify that the RTMP URL and stream key match the values entered in your third-party encoder. A mistyped or outdated destination or key can prevent a stable connection. IBM supports RTMPS for secure ingest. Keep the stream key private: someone who has both the URL and key may be able to publish to the channel.
IBM’s API documentation describes channel and temporary streaming keys. That API behavior should not be assumed to apply to every dashboard configuration; verify the key shown for your actual channel and workflow.

Use a compatible starting configuration
For most IBM cloud-transcoding applications, IBM recommends a single 720p input with the following settings. These are vendor recommendations and a reasonable baseline to test, not proof that an incompatible setting caused a particular disconnect.
| Encoder setting | IBM’s recommended starting point for most cloud-transcoding applications |
|---|---|
| Resolution | 1280 Ă— 720 |
| Video bitrate | 1,200–4,000 kbps |
| Audio | AAC-LC, 128 kbps |
| Audio sample rate | 44.1 or 48 kHz |
| Frame rate | 25 or 30 fps; match the source frame rate |
| Video codec and profile | H.264 Main |
| Keyframe interval | One second |
Do not jump to 1080p or 4K as a troubleshooting shortcut. Higher resolutions need more upload capacity and encoder processing headroom. First establish a stable stream at a supported, manageable setting; increase quality only when the connection and encoder can sustain it.

Check firewall access for the correct IBM cluster
If the encoder is behind a corporate firewall or managed network, ask the network administrator to verify that outbound traffic can reach IBM’s ingest service. IBM’s detailed firewall guidance for the EU cluster calls for outbound TCP port 1935 to IBM IP ranges for RTMP, with additional ports for secure ingest.
Those IP ranges are specifically for the EU cluster. Do not copy them into firewall rules for an account on another cluster; use the guidance for the cluster associated with your account. A firewall change should be made by the responsible administrator and should be limited to the applicable IBM destinations and ports.

Check YouTube when it is actually part of the path
For a YouTube relay or separate encoder output, use YouTube’s live-stream error and troubleshooting guidance to inspect encoder errors, codec and audio compatibility, the source feed, and primary-versus-backup frame-rate consistency. Compare the error time with the encoder and IBM records to determine whether the failure begins before the signal reaches YouTube or on the YouTube leg.
If YouTube is not receiving a relay or independent output, its diagnostics will not locate an encoder-to-IBM disconnect. Concentrate on the encoder, network, firewall, and IBM ingest instead.

Rule out an incident and prepare an escalation
- Check IBM’s official status page for a service incident around the recorded time.
- If there is no incident listed and the problem continues, gather the account and channel information, a concise description of the issue, timestamps, screenshots, and exact error messages before contacting IBM support.
- Include which route you use (IBM only, IBM relay to YouTube, or separate outputs), your encoder’s connection and dropped-frame indicators, the settings you tested, and relevant IBM network-test results. This evidence helps support distinguish an ingest issue from an encoder, network, firewall, or destination problem.
- Check IBM’s current support contact page for available support hours and holiday coverage; those details can change.
IBM’s status page was marked modified 8 June 2026, and its support contact page was marked modified 7 May 2026. These dates identify the versions of those pages, not a guarantee about current incident status or support availability.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your real goal is a prerecorded YouTube channel that stays live around the clock, rather than fixing an IBM ingest workflow, StreamNeo is a separate YouTube-only option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It is not a fix for an IBM Video Streaming disconnect and does not stream to IBM; it is relevant when you want uploaded videos to loop on YouTube without leaving a computer running.
Quick Recap
- Nothing has to stay on at home; StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud.
- Uploaded video streams at its original quality, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot rather than quality-based tiers.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card, once per account.
- Monthly: $9.99 per month.
