Start by finding out whether the fault is limited to this royal documentary, affects every title in the same streaming app, or also affects other apps and devices on your network. Try another title, note the exact error, and record your device and app or browser version. Then follow the branch below that matches the symptom: loading failures usually need an app or device restart, buffering needs a connection check, and missing sound needs an audio-output check. The documentary title alone cannot identify one certain cause.
First, identify the scope of the failure
A quick comparison prevents you from changing the wrong setting or buying equipment you do not need. Keep the documentary open while you make these checks, and write down any error code or message exactly as shown.
| What you test | What the result suggests | Next move |
|---|---|---|
| Another title in the same service on the same device | Only the royal documentary fails | Record the title and error, then report a possible title or service problem to that service. |
| Several titles in the same service | The app, account session, device state, or service access may be involved | Restart the app and device, check date and time, and update the app or browser. |
| The documentary on another supported device | It works elsewhere | Concentrate on the original device, its audio output, app, browser, or local network connection. |
| Other streaming apps on the same network | Several apps fail or buffer | Investigate the home network and contact your internet service provider if restarts and checks do not help. |
This is a diagnostic inference, not proof of the underlying fault. A service outage, a title-specific problem, a device issue, and an unstable connection can produce similar symptoms.
Record the details support staff will need
- Documentary title, episode or edition, and the streaming service.
- Device type and operating-system version.
- App version or browser name and version.
- Whether the device uses Wi-Fi, a wired connection, cellular data, a hotspot, or satellite service.
- The exact error wording, when playback stops, and whether other titles play.
When the documentary will not start or is stuck loading
Use this sequence when playback never begins, the loading indicator does not finish, or the app becomes unresponsive while the rest of the device still works.

1. Close and reopen the service
Exit the streaming app completely rather than merely switching to another screen. In a browser, close the playback tab and open the service again. Sign in if the service asks you to do so, then retry the documentary.
2. Restart the entire device
Power the television, streaming box, phone, tablet, or computer off using its normal shutdown command, wait briefly, and start it again. A full restart clears temporary playback state that an app-only close can leave behind. Netflix includes a full device restart in its guidance for freezing or loading problems (Netflix troubleshooting guidance).
3. Verify the device date and time
Open the device’s date-and-time settings and enable the automatic network time option when available. A significantly incorrect date or time can prevent video from playing correctly, according to Netflix’s support instructions (Netflix’s loading and freezing help). After correcting it, restart the service and try again.
4. Check whether the title itself is the exception
Play another documentary or programme in the same service. If everything else starts normally, do not reset the device yet; send the service the title, edition, time of failure, and any error message. If every title fails, continue with the browser or app and network checks below.

When the documentary keeps buffering
Buffering means the player is repeatedly waiting for enough data to continue. A weak or unstable connection is one possibility, but device state, service access, or a network that blocks streaming can look the same. Establish the cause before replacing a router or paying for a faster plan.
1. Test the connection where the device is being used
Run the service’s connection test, if it provides one, or compare the documentary with another streaming title. Check whether other devices on the same Wi-Fi are also unusually slow. A device far from the access point, temporary congestion, or an intermittent link can cause pauses even when a speed test looks normal at another location.
2. Restart the device and home network
- Stop playback and turn off the television, computer, or mobile device.
- Unplug the modem and router or gateway from power.
- Wait for the network equipment to finish shutting down, then reconnect it.
- Wait until its normal internet indicators return.
- Restart the playback device, reconnect it to the network, and test the documentary again.
Restarting both the device and home network is an official step in Netflix’s buffering guidance (Netflix: TV show or movie loads slowly or keeps buffering).
3. Check the type and rules of the network
Public networks in hotels, schools, offices, and similar locations may block or restrict streaming. Hotspots, cellular connections, and satellite links may also be too slow or variable for uninterrupted playback. Netflix specifically lists these conditions among possibilities to check (Netflix’s buffering guidance). If the service requires a sign-in page, complete that step before opening the player.

- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
4. Reduce competing activity temporarily
Pause large downloads, cloud backups, game updates, and other video streams while testing. In a browser, close unnecessary tabs and applications; Netflix notes that doing so may improve streaming performance (Netflix audio and playback troubleshooting). This is a diagnostic test, not a reason to permanently shut down every other device.
5. Compare another connection or device
If practical, test the same documentary on a second supported device or a different network. If it plays there, the original connection or device deserves attention. If several services fail on the same network after the restart, contact your internet service provider and report whether the affected device is wired or connected by Wi-Fi. Include the times of failure and the tests you already completed.
When the picture plays but there is no sound
Silent video usually points to volume, mute, audio-output selection, speakers, or a cable path rather than the documentary image itself. Check each layer from the player outward.
1. Check the player’s volume and mute state
- Move the volume control inside the video player.
- Look for a crossed-out speaker icon and select it to unmute.
- Raise the device’s master volume.
Some players remember a muted state separately from the television or computer volume, so test both controls.

2. Unmute the browser tab
In a desktop browser, inspect the tab that contains the documentary. If the tab shows a muted-speaker indicator, use the tab’s context menu or speaker control to unmute it. Then test another video in the same browser. YouTube’s official troubleshooting steps include checking browser sound settings and restarting the browser or device (YouTube Help: Troubleshoot YouTube video errors).
3. Confirm the selected audio output
Open the operating system or television sound settings and verify that audio is routed to the speakers or headphones you are actually using. Disconnect Bluetooth headphones or speakers temporarily if the device may still be sending sound to them. On a computer, select the built-in speakers or plug in headphones and test again; this separates a device-audio problem from a soundbar, receiver, or television-speaker problem.
4. Inspect external equipment and connections
If the device feeds a soundbar, receiver, or separate speakers, confirm that the equipment is powered on, set to the correct input, and not muted. Reseat HDMI or optical cables at both ends and select the corresponding input. Netflix recommends checking external speaker connections and HDMI or optical connections for video-without-sound problems (Netflix: Video plays, but has no sound).
5. Restart and compare
Restart the browser or app and then restart the playback device. Test the documentary through built-in speakers or headphones before reconnecting external audio gear. If every title is silent, the output path or device setting is more likely than one documentary’s soundtrack. If only this title is silent while other titles work, report the title and the audio symptom to the streaming service.

Browser and app checks
Use a supported, current browser
Install pending browser updates and confirm that the service supports the browser on your operating system. Close other tabs and applications during the test. If the problem is limited to one browser, try another current supported browser solely as a comparison; a successful comparison identifies where to continue troubleshooting but does not prove a permanent workaround.
Update the streaming app
Open your device’s app store, check for an update, install it, and reopen the service. An outdated app can behave differently from the service’s current playback system. Follow the service’s device-specific instructions before deleting or reinstalling the app, because reinstalling may remove downloads or require you to sign in again.
Clear browser cache and cookies when playback errors persist
Use the browser’s privacy or history settings to clear cached files and cookies for the affected service, then close and reopen the browser. YouTube includes clearing cache and cookies among its playback troubleshooting steps (YouTube Help troubleshooting). Clearing this data can sign you out and remove site preferences, so save any information you need before proceeding.
Do not reset everything first
A factory reset, router replacement, or complete device reconfiguration is disproportionate when one title fails or the player is simply muted. Use those actions only if the service or device manufacturer specifically directs them after the simpler checks have failed.

Escalate with a useful report
Contact the streaming service for a title-specific failure
Tell support that other titles do or do not play, provide the documentary’s exact title and edition, and include the error message, device, app or browser version, and time of the attempt. Mention whether the problem is failure to start, continuous buffering, or missing sound. This gives the service enough context to distinguish a catalogue or access problem from a local playback problem.
Contact your internet service provider for a network-wide failure
If multiple services fail on more than one device connected to the same network, report the pattern to your provider. State whether the affected device uses Wi-Fi or Ethernet, whether restarting the modem and router helped, and whether the problem also occurs at a different time. Do not describe the issue simply as “the royal documentary is broken” when the evidence shows a broader connection failure.
Quick Recap
Keep the test results together
- One title versus all titles.
- One device versus several devices.
- One service versus several services.
- Wi-Fi, wired, hotspot, cellular, satellite, or public network.
- Whether restarting, updating, changing audio output, or clearing browser data changed the symptom.
Fast decision checklist
- Try another title in the same service.
- Try the documentary on another supported device or network, if available.
- For no start or stuck loading: close the service, restart the device, and correct the date and time.
- For buffering: check network stability, restart the device and home network, and test without competing traffic.
- For no sound: check player volume, browser-tab mute, system output, speakers, and HDMI or optical connections.
- Update the browser or app; clear browser cache and cookies when appropriate.
- Escalate to the streaming service for a title-specific fault or to the internet provider for a network-wide fault.
