How to Find Apple Music History on iPhone and Mac

Apple Music separates recent playback from long-term statistics. Use the Playing Next queue for recent songs and Apple Music Replay for yearly and all-time summaries.

Apple Music has two different kinds of “history.” For songs played recently, open the Playing Next queue: on iPhone, swipe down in the queue; on Mac, scroll to History. For older listening trends, use Apple Music Replay. Apple does not provide one obvious, unlimited, date-by-date play log in the standard Music app.

Find recently played songs on iPhone

  1. Open the Music app and start a song if nothing is playing.
  2. Tap the MiniPlayer at the bottom to open Now Playing.
  3. Tap the Playing Next queue button.
  4. Swipe down in the queue to reveal your playing history.
  5. Tap any listed song to play it again.

Apple documents this queue-based history in its iPhone Music guide. It is a short-term list, not a searchable record of every song you have ever played. The queue button may not appear until playback has started, and the exact icon placement can vary with iOS revisions.

Clear the visible iPhone history

From the same history view, tap Clear. This removes the playing history displayed in the queue. Apple’s instructions do not establish that it deletes server-side listening data, Replay statistics, recommendations, or all Apple Account activity.

Find recently played songs on Mac

  1. Open the Music app and play a song.
  2. Click the Playing Next button near the upper-right of the Music window.
  3. Scroll upward in the queue panel until the History section appears.

The current Mac instructions are for the Music app, not iTunes. See Apple’s Music on Mac guide for the queue location. Apple documents viewing History there, but the cited instructions do not document a general Mac “clear all history” control; do not assume Mac deletion works exactly like the iPhone control.

Use Apple Music Replay for long-term listening data

Replay is the better choice when you want rankings and trends rather than one recently heard song. Apple calculates summaries from listening history, play counts, and listening time. Depending on your account and available data, Replay can include top songs, artists, albums, playlists, genres, stations, listening time, current-year statistics, previous-year playlists, and an All Time playlist of most-played songs.

Open Replay on iPhone

  1. Open Music.
  2. Go to Home.
  3. Scroll to Replay: Your Top Music.
  4. Tap Go back in time when it is available.

Open Replay on Mac or PC

In a browser, visit replay.music.apple.com and sign in with the Apple Account used for Apple Music. Apple says Replay may not appear until you have played enough music to generate results; its Replay support page explains the availability requirements.

Replay is an aggregate summary, not a complete chronological log. It cannot reliably provide a timestamp for every play, prove that a particular song was played on a particular date, or recover a track that has disappeared from the recent queue.

Turn on listening history

The Use Listening History setting controls whether listening activity informs personalization and Replay. Apple also says that disabling it hides music you play from Apple Music followers.

iPhone

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Apps, then Music.
  3. Turn on Use Listening History.

See Apple’s iPhone personalization guide.

Mac

  1. Open Music.
  2. Choose Music > Settings.
  3. Click General.
  4. Turn on Use Listening History.

The Mac setting is described in Apple’s Music settings guide. Re-enabling the option does not come with an Apple guarantee that previously excluded plays will be reconstructed.

Why Apple Music history is missing

  • No active playback: Start a song before opening Playing Next.
  • Wrong location: iPhone history is inside Now Playing > Playing Next and requires a downward swipe; Mac history is inside the Playing Next panel and requires scrolling to History.
  • Listening History is off: Check the iPhone or Mac setting above. This can keep activity out of recommendations and Replay.
  • Replay is not ready: Apple requires enough listening activity before Replay is generated.
  • Different account or profile: Confirm the same Apple Account, subscription context, and Music profile on both devices.
  • The play is older: A short-term queue cannot be treated as a permanent archive.
  • Interface differences: Update iOS or macOS if a documented control is absent, while allowing for changes in labels and icon placement by software version or region.
  • Library confusion: A library item may have been added, downloaded, purchased, or synchronized without being recently played; a recently played song may not be saved to the library.

Can you see every song you have ever played?

Not through one obvious, unlimited history screen in the standard iPhone or Mac Music app. The queue provides recent playback, while Replay provides long-term rankings and summaries. If you need a complete timestamped export, do not assume that either view supplies one; Apple’s documented interfaces above do not promise it.
