Apple’s US show page was still labeled Coming Soon on October 13, 2026. That status is normal before the announced launch date; it does not indicate that the series has been canceled. The announced date is a global premiere, but Apple has not stated whether all eight episodes will arrive at once or follow a weekly schedule. Do not assume a release pattern until the show page displays episode availability for your region.
The title is easy to confuse with a search for Awkwafina’s films, interviews or other Apple TV appearances. The reliable identifiers are the complete title, the documentary/travel classification and the description about Nora Lum’s culinary journey. Find it in the Apple TV app

Apple states that content and features can differ by country, region and device. A device can therefore support the Apple TV app generally while showing a different catalog, rating or release status from the US listing.
For a television purchase decision, start with the hardware you already own. If the Apple TV app is available on a smart TV, Roku, Fire TV, Chromecast with Google TV, PlayStation or Xbox, that route may be sufficient. Apple TV 4K is a defensible optional upgrade for viewers who want a dedicated Apple streaming box, but it is not a prerequisite for this series. The browser route can also avoid installing anything on a television.

A subscription to Apple TV is required to watch the series. Apple’s October 1, 2026 US press release listed the following service terms at that time:

Those figures should be treated as a snapshot rather than a promise of what every viewer will see. Apple can display a different price, tax treatment, currency, trial, bundle or eligibility rule in another country. The sign-up screen for your Apple Account is the final authority before payment.
If you are considering the trial, check the renewal price and cancellation terms shown during enrollment. A free trial is an introductory promotion for eligible new subscribers, not a guarantee that an existing or returning account will receive the same offer. Read the confirmation screen for the billing date, currency and any applicable taxes. A trial also does not change the need for a supported app, browser or device.

The practical cost comparison is therefore simple: use an existing compatible screen and pay the local Apple TV subscription, or add the one-time cost of optional hardware such as Apple TV 4K. Buying hardware does not replace the subscription requirement. Prices and promotions can change, so use the current Apple sign-up page rather than relying on an old article or an offer shown to another account.
What the eight-episode series follows
The premise is a personal and practical food journey. Nora Lum travels across the United States while trying to revive her family’s Chinese restaurant, Lum’s, which Apple describes as a Cantonese restaurant in Flushing, New York.
A family restaurant at the center
The trip connects professional cooking lessons with Lum’s family history. Apple’s announcement frames the restaurant project as an effort to reconnect with and help revive that legacy, rather than as a conventional competition series. The family-business goal gives the travel a clear through line: each stop contributes to Lum’s understanding of food, technique or restaurant culture.
Training at the Culinary Institute of America
One stop gives Lum a crash course at the Culinary Institute of America. The announcement does not provide a curriculum, credential or course length, so viewers should regard it as a featured learning experience within the series rather than an announced qualification. Texas barbecue with Jimmy O. Yang
The itinerary includes Texas barbecue alongside Jimmy O. Yang. Lum also learns from chefs Roy Choi and Martin Yan. Their inclusion signals that the series combines hands-on instruction with conversations and mentorship, although Apple has not published a dish-by-dish breakdown of the episodes. Their appearances are part of the announced itinerary, not evidence that every episode centers on a single guest.
Hawai‘i tiki culture
Another part of the trip explores Hawai‘i’s tiki culture. The announcement identifies the cultural and culinary subject but does not specify which locations, establishments or recipes will appear. Work in Los Angeles’ Chinatown
The itinerary concludes, in part, with Lum working at a restaurant in Los Angeles’ Chinatown. Apple has not published the restaurant’s name or a detailed account of her duties. Production and credited roles
Apple says the series is produced for Apple TV by Twofour. The executive producers named in the announcement are Nora Lum, David Brindley, Itay Reiss and Caroline Davies.

In a November 20, 2025 announcement, she said: “Food has been a huge part of my family’s history, and to be able to explore and reconnect with that legacy has been an incredibly rare and very special opportunity.” The October 1, 2026 press release quotes her more bluntly in the series itself: “I can’t cook. Like, at all.”
The first quotation explains the family motivation behind the journey; the second sets up the fish-out-of-water premise. Neither statement should be read as a claim about her abilities after the training shown in the episodes. Apple identifies Lum as both the on-screen subject and an executive producer, so the project is presented as a personal exploration as well as a travel-food format.

Regional availability and listing differences
Apple identifies the United Kingdom as the series’ region of origin on the US listing, while the story itself travels through US locations including Flushing, Texas, Hawai‘i and Los Angeles. Region of origin is catalog metadata; it does not mean that only UK viewers can watch the program.
What you see can vary in several ways:
- Launch status: A US page marked Coming Soon may not use identical wording elsewhere.

The search shows no result
Search the shorter term Awkwafina, then inspect results for the documentary listing. If that still fails, confirm that you are signed in, the Apple TV app is available in your country and the device has a current supported version. A missing result before November 6 can also simply reflect the pre-release listing not yet being exposed in your market.
The page says Coming Soon
That label was present on the US page on October 13, 2026. Before the announced premiere, there may be no playable episode. Check the date displayed by your local listing rather than expecting a trailer page to behave like a live season page. The app is unavailable on your television

Apple has confirmed the episode count, premise, principal itinerary, production company and premiere date. It has not published episode runtimes, individual episode titles, a complete release cadence, a detailed recipe list or a guarantee that every listed device will receive the same features in every country.
Apple also has not identified the Los Angeles Chinatown restaurant, the specific Texas barbecue locations, the Hawai‘i establishments or the exact Culinary Institute of America curriculum. Those omissions are normal for a pre-release listing and should not be filled with guesses.
