As of October 13, 2026, Ava DuVernay’s documentary 14th is not yet available to stream. Netflix has announced a global premiere on Friday, December 4, 2026. Before that, the film is scheduled for select cinemas in the United States and United Kingdom from Friday, November 27. The announcement does not identify participating theaters, so local listings are the only reliable way to find a screening. The film’s world premiere at the 64th New York Film Festival was scheduled for October 9 and is already past.
This page is therefore a release guide, not a claim that the film is currently playing everywhere. Dates and listings should be checked again near each window, because a limited theatrical booking and a streaming catalog can change independently.
Where you will be able to watch 14th
Netflix is the announced streaming home for 14th. Its global Netflix premiere is set for December 4, 2026. Until that date, the documentary should be treated as upcoming rather than currently streamable. Netflix’s official title page confirms the film and its synopsis, but local catalog visibility, subscription plans, playback features and pricing can vary by country.
The first public access route is a limited theatrical release beginning November 27, 2026. Netflix’s announcement specifies select U.S. and U.K. theaters, not a nationwide release. It does not name cities, chains or venues. Search your local cinema listings close to the release date, and check more than one listing service because a “select theaters” launch can involve only a small number of locations.

The word “global” applies to Netflix’s announced premiere, not to a promise that every local cinema will book the film. The theatrical and streaming dates are separate milestones: a reader might see it in a participating theater on November 27, while another reader waits for the Netflix launch one week later.
How to find a theatrical screening
The November 27 date is a starting date, not a promise that every theater in either country will show the film. Use the date and your location together when searching.
- Start with the local release window. In the week before November 27, search for 14th together with your city, town or postal code on cinema websites and established theater-listing services.
- Verify the exact title. The listing should identify Ava DuVernay’s 2026 documentary, not a screening, lecture or unrelated title using the number 14.
- Check the date and format. Look for showtimes on or after November 27 and confirm whether the listing is a regular screening or a one-night event.
- Buy through the venue shown in the listing. The release announcement does not provide a central ticket page, so use the theater’s own checkout or box office once a venue is confirmed.
- Recheck before traveling. Limited runs can add or remove showtimes quickly. Confirm the cinema’s address, screening time and ticket status on the day you plan to attend.
A listing in one U.S. or U.K. city does not establish availability elsewhere. If no local result appears, that may mean your area is not part of the select release rather than that the film has been canceled. Independent cinemas may list a limited engagement separately from large chains, so checking both kinds of venue is sensible.
No participating-city list or theater-by-theater schedule was included in Netflix Tudum’s August 20 announcement. Consequently, an article, social post or ticket page naming one city should be treated as a local listing for that venue, not proof of a nationwide opening.

Netflix has announced December 4 as the global premiere date. The practical steps are straightforward, but the result depends on your region and account.
- Wait for the announced date. On October 13, 2026, the film is not yet streaming; searching before December 4 may show an unavailable or upcoming title.
- Open Netflix in your country. Use the service’s website or app after the premiere date and search for 14th. The official Netflix title page is the identity check for the film.
- Confirm the synopsis and director. The correct entry describes Ava DuVernay’s documentary about the long struggle over the Fourteenth Amendment and the question of who belongs.
- Check your plan and playback details. Netflix’s catalog and plan features are region-specific. If the title does not appear, verify that your account is in the intended country and review the plan information shown by Netflix.
- Use the title page rather than an unverified repost. A third-party availability page can serve as a cross-check, but Netflix’s own announcement and catalog are the primary authorities for release status.
The word “global” describes Netflix’s announced premiere, but it does not remove ordinary regional differences in catalog display, account terms or local release timing. If your catalog does not show the documentary on December 4, check Netflix’s regional help information and allow for a short catalog-update delay before assuming the date has changed. Do not infer that a missing search result means the film has been withdrawn without checking Netflix’s own service and regional information.
Netflix’s announcement does not state a subscription price, rental price, free-trial offer or plan tier for this title. Your cost will depend on the plans and taxes offered in your country, so consult Netflix directly rather than relying on an old price quoted elsewhere. The same applies to subtitles, audio tracks, downloads and device limits: the official title page confirms the film, while your account page supplies the applicable playback details.
What 14th is about
14th is a 2026 documentary directed by Ava DuVernay and produced by DuVernay, Spencer Averick, Tammy Garnes and Paul Garnes. Netflix says the film comes from ARRAY and examines the long-running American argument over the Fourteenth Amendment: citizenship, rights and who is recognized as belonging.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The documentary brings archival scholarship into conversation with current headlines and includes legal, political, historical and cultural voices. Netflix describes DuVernay’s approach as tracing the fight over the amendment across more than 150 years. The announcement also says she conducted more than 50 expert interviews.
Those details explain why the film may be listed under documentary, history, politics or social-issues categories depending on the service. They do not make it a sequel to another film, and they should not be confused with the constitutional amendment itself. The “more than 150 years” wording is Netflix’s description of the historical span, while “more than 50 expert interviews” describes the interview count reported by Netflix Tudum.
DuVernay’s stated purpose is contemporary as well as historical. Netflix quotes her saying, “If 13th asked who gets caged, then 14th asks who gets counted.” She says the film asks what kind of country is being written beneath our feet while people are busy believing familiar stories. That is a framing statement from the director, not a promise that the documentary offers a particular policy conclusion.
Do not confuse 14th with 13th
DuVernay’s earlier documentary 13th and the new film’s title are easy to mix up in searches. 13th addresses the Thirteenth Amendment and mass incarceration; 14th turns to the Fourteenth Amendment and the contested meaning of citizenship, rights and belonging. When searching, include “Ava DuVernay” and “2026 documentary” so that a platform does not return the earlier film.
Recommended Free Tools
Use the Fourteenth-Amendment synopsis as the final identity check. A result that discusses incarceration or labels itself simply as 13th is not the documentary covered here. Conversely, a generic constitutional-law title or classroom resource using “14th” is not evidence that it is DuVernay’s film.
DuVernay summarized the relationship in Netflix’s announcement: “If 13th asked who gets caged, then 14th asks who gets counted.” She added that the film is not simply about the past, but asks what kind of country is being written now. The quotation is a framing statement from the director, not a description of a separate release or companion project.
What the release timeline means
October 9, 2026: festival premiere
Netflix identified 14th as the closing-night selection of the 64th New York Film Festival, with a world premiere scheduled for October 9, 2026. That event is historical context as of October 13; it is not an ongoing public screening route. Festival attendance does not substitute for a Netflix account or a local theatrical booking. A festival review or audience report also does not establish that the film is now available for general streaming.
November 27, 2026: select theaters
The announced cinema release begins in selected U.S. and U.K. theaters. Because venues are not listed in the announcement, do not assume a specific city, chain or screening time. Local theater pages remain the source for actual tickets. The date marks the beginning of the engagement; it does not state how long any particular theater will retain the film.

December 4, 2026: Netflix premiere
The film is scheduled to become available globally on Netflix. This is the date readers asking “When does 14th come out on Netflix?” should use, while remembering that catalog display and plan details are handled locally. If you are planning a group viewing, confirm that every participant’s country and account can access the title rather than assuming one person’s catalog proves universal access.
Runtime, formats and listing details
A JustWatch U.S. availability listing gave the documentary a runtime of 1 hour 40 minutes. Netflix’s official announcement and title text reviewed for this release did not state a runtime, so treat the 100-minute figure as a third-party listing detail rather than a runtime confirmed by Netflix. Runtime displays can also change as listings are corrected. Use the figure for rough planning, not as a guarantee of the final on-platform display.
The Netflix title page confirms the name and synopsis but does not establish local pricing or a physical-media edition. Your own Netflix region is the appropriate place to check plan, subtitle, audio and playback information once the title is available. Neither the Netflix announcement nor its title page promises a particular resolution, download option or language track.
Is there a DVD, Blu-ray or soundtrack?
No DVD, Blu-ray or other physical edition is announced in the official sources reviewed for this release. There is also no confirmed film-specific soundtrack, official poster, merchandise line or companion book for 14th. Do not treat a generic Fourteenth Amendment book or a streaming device as an edition of the documentary.

If a retailer lists a physical product before an official announcement, check that it identifies this 2026 film and comes from an authorized seller. An unverified listing is not evidence that a studio release exists. The absence of a listed disc does not change the announced Netflix date; it simply means there is no confirmed physical purchase route to report.
Costs, links and buying cautions
Neither Netflix Tudum’s announcement nor the official title page gives a ticket price for the select theatrical engagement. Theater admission can differ by city, venue, screening time and local taxes, so readers should view the selected cinema’s checkout as the price authority. Likewise, no Netflix subscription price is specified for 14th; Netflix displays current plans and regional charges to each account.
Netflix is a relevant access partner because it is the announced streaming home, but a public publisher affiliate arrangement for Netflix was not verified. A Netflix link in a guide should therefore be informational, not presented as a commission-bearing recommendation. Netflix’s help page about promotions from partner companies describes consumer offers and does not establish that a publisher earns referral fees for subscriptions or for this film.
There is no justified film-specific Amazon product keyword at this stage. A generic streaming device, unrelated Fourteenth Amendment book or general documentary merchandise would not answer the reader’s question about where to watch 14th. Wait for an authorized announcement before treating any physical product, soundtrack or companion guide as official.

Common availability problems and fixes
“I cannot find it on Netflix yet.”
Before December 4, 2026, that is expected: the announced streaming premiere is future-dated. After the premiere, check that you are searching the Netflix catalog for your actual region, then verify the title spelling and the director’s name.
“My city has no theater showtimes.”
The theatrical launch is limited to select U.S. and U.K. theaters, and no venue list was included in the announcement. Search again nearer November 27 and check independent cinemas as well as major chains. If no listing appears, your area may not be participating.
“A search result takes me to 13th.”
Add “14th,” “Ava DuVernay” and “2026” to the query. Confirm that the synopsis concerns the Fourteenth Amendment, not the earlier documentary’s subject.
“A retailer offers a disc or soundtrack.”
There is no announced official physical edition or soundtrack in the cited release information. Treat such a listing cautiously unless an authorized announcement identifies the format, distributor and release date.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute“A third-party site says it is available.”
Use the service’s own catalog or the theater’s own page as the final check. JustWatch’s U.S. listing corroborated the December 4 Netflix date when reviewed, but Netflix’s announcement remains the primary release authority. Third-party pages can lag behind a schedule change or display a different country’s availability.
“Can I watch the New York Film Festival screening now?”
No general-access route follows automatically from the October 9 festival premiere. The event was the world premiere and, as of October 13, had already passed. Look to the announced theater window and Netflix date instead.
“Does global mean I can use any Netflix catalog?”
No. The announcement gives a global premiere, while Netflix still presents catalogs, plans and playback information by region. Check the account and country where you intend to watch.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to know before you plan a viewing
- Date-stamp your search. Availability can change between the October 13 announcement snapshot and the November or December release windows.
- Separate country from platform. “Global premiere” refers to Netflix’s announced launch, while catalogs and account terms are still displayed by region.
- Keep the title exact. Use 14th, Ava DuVernay and 2026 in searches to avoid the earlier 13th.
- Expect a documentary built from multiple kinds of testimony. Netflix describes legal, political, historical and cultural voices alongside archival scholarship and current headlines.
- Plan for a feature-length viewing. The third-party U.S. listing reports approximately 100 minutes, while the official Netflix text does not independently confirm that runtime.
- Do not budget from an unverified figure. Ticket and subscription prices are not supplied in the announcement; use the local theater and Netflix account pages.
- Do not assume a disc is forthcoming. No DVD, Blu-ray, soundtrack, poster, merchandise line or film-specific companion book is announced in the official information cited here.
Sources and release authority
The dates, production credits, festival information, interview count and DuVernay quotation come from Netflix Tudum’s August 20, 2026 announcement, “Ava DuVernay’s 14th to Premiere on Netflix in December.” Netflix’s official 14TH title page supplies the synopsis and confirms the film’s identity. ARRAY’s official company information confirms its relationship to the project. JustWatch’s U.S. listing is a secondary availability cross-check and the source of the 1-hour-40-minute runtime shown above.
Best Value
Recheck Netflix and local theater listings immediately before watching. The announced information establishes the release windows, but it does not establish a particular cinema, local ticket price, subscription price or physical edition. Netflix’s own catalog and the individual theater’s ticket page should always outrank an undated aggregator or retailer listing.

Select theaters in the United States and United Kingdom are scheduled to begin screenings on Friday, November 27, 2026. Netflix has not named participating cities or venues, so check local cinema listings.
