To fade automatically between songs on a 24/7 YouTube lofi stream, use a playback and mixing app such as Mixxx to crossfade the tracks before your streaming encoder sends the finished program to YouTube. In Mixxx, add authorized music to Auto DJ, enable it, choose a transition mode, and listen to a test mix. YouTube carries the broadcast; it does not crossfade the playlist for you.
Where the crossfade happens
Think of the setup as three separate jobs: Mixxx Auto DJ selects tracks and crossfades them, your streaming encoder captures the resulting audio and video, and YouTube hosts the live broadcast. Set up automatic transitions in Mixxx
- Prepare music you are allowed to stream. Confirm that your rights cover live streaming and any other use you plan to make of the recordings. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches, and a match can interrupt or terminate a stream. Even licensed music may require the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. - Fill the Auto DJ queue. Mixxx’s Auto DJ playlist starts empty. Add individual tracks or a playlist, then enable Auto DJ. It loads an upcoming track near the end of the current one and crossfades between them. Mixxx User Manual
- Choose a transition mode. Use the comparison below to match the mode to your cue markers and how much of each track you want to preserve.
- Listen and adjust. Check several transitions, including tracks with different arrangements and endings. There is no universally best lofi fade length: ambience, percussion, reverb, and silence all affect what sounds natural. Mixxx says Auto DJ does not account for track volume, frequency content, or rhythm, so treat its transitions as a starting point to review rather than a finished human-style mix. Mixxx User Manual
- Send the mixed program to YouTube. Route the composed audio and video from Mixxx or your audio setup into your streaming encoder. YouTube recommends RTMPS and publishes encoder settings; use its current guidance and check the Live Dashboard for incoming-stream errors before relying on the setup. Choose the right Mixxx transition mode

For the cue-based modes, set reliable intro and outro markers first. The manual does not say that Auto DJ analyzes loudness, frequency balance, or rhythm; a technically seamless overlap can still sound unbalanced or clash musically. Mixxx User Manual
Check rights separately from audio quality
A smooth crossfade does not give you permission to stream a recording. Verify the rights for every track and whether the rights holder must allowlist your channel in Content ID. YouTube says a live stream may be interrupted or terminated after a third-party match, including in cases where licensed content still needs allowlisting. YouTube copyright guidance

Troubleshoot fades and stream audio
- No transition occurs: Make sure the Auto DJ queue contains tracks and Auto DJ is enabled; the queue starts empty.
- The fade cuts off a track: Review the intro and outro markers and the selected cue-based mode. Fade At Outro Start may shorten a long outro, particularly when the incoming intro is short.
- The overlap sounds muddy, abrupt, or uneven: Try a different duration or mode and review the cue placement. Auto DJ does not account for volume, frequency content, or rhythm, so listen to the actual pair of tracks rather than expecting one setting to suit every song.
- The stream is silent or has doubled audio: Check that the encoder is capturing the mixed output and that a second music source is not playing into the stream at the same time.
- YouTube interrupts the broadcast: Check for a third-party rights match and confirm that you have the necessary permissions and any required Content ID allowlisting. A better crossfade will not resolve a rights claim.

DJ headphones connected to Mixxx’s headphone output can help you preview an incoming track, but they are optional; Auto DJ does not need them to crossfade automatically. Mixxx User Manual
