To loop a prerecorded video into YouTube Live from a Windows PC, copy the current RTMPS URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room, encode the file with FFmpeg using settings that match the source and your sustained upload capacity, and test the complete loop before relying on it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and keyframes every 2 seconds (no more than 4 seconds apart). No India-specific encoder preset is identified in YouTube’s guidance; measure the connection where you will stream.
What you need before encoding
- A prerecorded video file and an FFmpeg build for Windows that can read it and supports the protocols needed for your output. FFmpeg build availability and installation steps vary; consult the FFmpeg documentation for build-specific information.
- A YouTube channel with access to create or schedule a live stream in YouTube Live Control Room.
- The current RTMPS URL and stream key for that specific stream.
- A stable internet connection with enough sustained upload capacity for the selected video and audio bitrates, plus some headroom for variation.
Keep the stream key private. Do not publish a working key in a command example, screenshot, support post, or shared command history. Treat it like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send video to the associated stream.
Choose resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate
Match the output to the source and the viewing quality you need. Higher resolution and frame rate require more bitrate. A lower setting that remains stable is generally more useful than a higher setting that causes dropped frames or interruptions. YouTube’s published figures below are recommendations, not measurements of your internet connection; YouTube Help does not state a publication date for the settings page. The page was accessed on 2026-10-03, so check it again before a long run.

YouTube also lists H.265 (HEVC) and AV1, with separate recommendations on its encoder settings page. H.264 is used in the example below as a familiar baseline; it is not YouTube’s only supported video codec. YouTube’s general guidance includes CBR, a keyframe interval of 2 seconds (not exceeding 4 seconds), frame rates up to 60 fps, AAC or MP3 audio, 44.1 kHz stereo audio, and 128 kbps stereo audio. Choose a bitrate based on the codec, output resolution and frame rate, and the upload connection you can sustain.

Check upload capacity at the streaming location
For a channel operated from India, use a sustained upstream test at the actual PC and network that will send the stream, ideally at the time you expect to broadcast. Wi-Fi, household traffic, and ISP conditions can change the available upload rate. The reviewed YouTube recommendations are global; they do not define a special India bitrate or ingest endpoint. If the connection cannot comfortably sustain the target, lower the output resolution, frame rate, or bitrate and test again.
Get the current RTMPS URL and stream key
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule the live stream.
- Open the stream’s Stream settings. Use the lock icon to reveal the RTMPS URL if it is hidden.
- Copy the URL and stream key shown for that stream. Do not reuse an old URL from a tutorial or assume every stream has the same endpoint.
- Keep the key out of anything public. For repeated use, consider how you will supply it locally without leaving it in a file or command history accessible to other people using the PC.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, its encrypted form of RTMP. Its RTMPS help page explains where to find the URL and key. The URL must use the actual endpoint and application path shown by Live Control Room. Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide describes using port 443 and a hostname for SNI-based authentication.

Illustrative FFmpeg command for Windows
This schematic Command Prompt example shows the placement of the options for a single input loop and an H.264/AAC RTMPS output. It has not been verified against a particular Windows build, file, or FFmpeg version; confirm the options supported by the build you install and test the exact source before using it for a long broadcast.

Replace the file path with the actual path to your media, and replace the destination locally with the complete RTMPS URL and key copied from Live Control Room. Never publish a real destination string containing your key. If a URL contains special characters, use a secure local method appropriate to your environment rather than assuming a command-line example will protect it.
What the example options mean
-rereads file input at its native rate rather than sending it as fast as the PC can process it.-stream_loop -1requests indefinite looping of the input; confirm support and behavior with your installed FFmpeg version.-iintroduces the input. Input options such as-reand-stream_loopappear before it; the encoding and output options follow it and precede the destination.-c:v libx264selects H.264 encoding, while-b:v,-maxrate, and-bufsizeset rate-control values. The sample’s 8 Mbps is an illustrative choice aligned with YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate for 720p30 or 720p60, not a universal setting. For 1080p30, YouTube’s recommended H.264 value is 14 Mbps; choose the appropriate rate only if your connection can sustain it.-r 30requests 30 fps.-g 60with a 30 fps output targets a 2-second GOP/keyframe interval; check the resulting stream rather than assuming every encoder build interprets settings identically.-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2sets AAC stereo audio at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz, matching YouTube’s stated general audio recommendations.-f flvselects the RTMP-family output container used for this style of ingest. The destination must be the current RTMPS URL and key, not a fabricated or stale endpoint.
For a different source, adjust resolution and frame rate intentionally rather than blindly copying the sample. If the input has no audio, or has unusual frame rates, multiple audio tracks, variable frame rate, or unsupported pixel format, inspect the file and adapt the command; the example does not cover every media layout.

Test the stream and the loop before relying on it
- Start with a private, unlisted, or otherwise suitable test stream. YouTube advises that tests include audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast.
- Check the Live Control Room preview for picture, audio level, sync, and visible artifacts. Watch stream health and messages while the test runs.
- Let the file reach its end and begin the next loop. Inspect the boundary for silence, a freeze, a black frame, a jump in audio, or a disconnect. A loop option does not by itself guarantee seamless transitions.
- Observe dropped frames and whether the upload rate remains stable under normal network use. If health warnings appear, reduce the bitrate or output demands and repeat the test.
- Test a temporary network interruption only if you can do so safely. Confirm whether FFmpeg and YouTube recover as expected before treating the setup as unattended.
YouTube specifically recommends testing with comparable audio and movement, then monitoring stream health during the event. Its encoder settings guidance is the reference for current ingest settings.

SSL error
YouTube says an SSL error can result from an incorrect URL. Confirm that the protocol is rtmps, that the server and application path match the URL shown in Live Control Room, and that the FFmpeg build supports RTMPS. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance also suggests specifying port 443 when needed.

Connection timed out
Check that the URL is current and complete, and that the encoder supports RTMPS. Confirm the network can reach the required endpoint over port 443. Google’s ingestion guide describes the endpoint, application path, port, and hostname requirements; avoid substituting a guessed hostname or path.
YouTube does not receive a signal or rejects the stream
- Verify that the stream key belongs to the active stream in Live Control Room and has not been copied with missing characters.
- Check that the destination uses the stream’s current RTMPS URL rather than an unrelated or outdated address.
- Confirm that the output bitrate, frame rate, and keyframe interval are within YouTube’s current guidance and appropriate for the selected codec.
- If credentials or endpoint are valid but the connection still fails, consult the documentation for the specific FFmpeg build. FFmpeg defines RTMPS as RTMP over a secure SSL connection, but protocol availability can depend on how a binary was built: FFmpeg protocol documentation.
Picture is unstable, blurry, or dropping frames
Compare the output settings with the connection’s sustained upstream capacity, not just a brief speed-test peak. Reduce bitrate, resolution, or frame rate and retest. A high bitrate can exceed what the connection can maintain; a lower but stable setting may produce a more watchable stream.
The loop has a pause, jump, or interruption
Inspect the actual file boundary and test a complete repeat with the same FFmpeg build and connection. The FFmpeg documentation describes recovery behavior in some output scenarios, but it does not guarantee that every file loops gaplessly or that YouTube accepts every reconnect: FFmpeg documentation. Distinguish FFmpeg continuing to read an input from the YouTube broadcast staying connected without interruption.
Copyright and YouTube live rules for prerecorded material
Using FFmpeg to send a file as a live input does not change the rights required for its video, music, narration, or other included material. Use content you own or are licensed to use, and check that the permission covers the intended live broadcast. YouTube’s live policies and copyright handling can affect whether a stream is restricted, interrupted, or otherwise limited. A successful technical test is not proof that the content is cleared for broadcast.
