To keep a Hindi video stream running around the clock without pushing a huge live feed, first decide which data you need to reduce: the size of the video files you upload, the bandwidth used by a live encoder, or both. Those are separate jobs with different YouTube recommendations. For a bandwidth-constrained live feed, test H.264 at 480p30 or 720p30, use constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, and judge the result using your actual footage—including Devanagari text, speech and music.
Choose what you need to make smaller
A pre-encoded file and a live stream are not the same thing. Encoding a file at a lower bitrate can reduce the amount of data that must be uploaded before a stream, while choosing a lower live bitrate reduces the ongoing upload bandwidth required by an encoder. If your videos are already uploaded to YouTube and you are sending them through a live encoder, reducing the original upload file size does not by itself reduce the bitrate of that live feed.
- Need smaller files before uploading? Encode a short sample at a lower bitrate, inspect it, and compare file size and legibility before processing the full collection.
- Need to limit live upload bandwidth? Set resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate in the live encoder, then test the outgoing feed against YouTube’s live guidance.
- Need both? Treat file encoding and live ingest as two separate settings decisions; do not copy one workflow’s bitrate table into the other.
Choose a live resolution and bitrate
YouTube’s live encoder guidance lists separate recommendations by codec, resolution and frame rate. For H.264 at 30 fps, it gives the following values. They are YouTube ingest recommendations, not a promise that the minimum will look good on every video.

These figures are from YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance; YouTube does not state a publication year on the cited page. Start from the source’s native frame rate where practical, and avoid selecting a higher resolution or frame rate without a reason. Hindi itself does not call for a distinct bitrate in the cited guidance. The useful test is how your actual speech, music, movement and on-screen Devanagari text look at the settings you can sustain.

How to choose between 480p30 and 720p30
- Try 480p30 when bandwidth is especially constrained, or when the source is relatively simple and text remains readable at that size.
- Try 720p30 when detail or text legibility matters and your sustained upload can support the selected bitrate.
- Compare a representative scene with motion, detailed backgrounds, speech or music, and any Hindi captions or graphics. A static title card alone is not a useful test for moving footage.
Do not treat the table’s minimum as a quality target: the guidance does not guarantee acceptable quality at that rate for your material. Lower bitrate generally means less data per second and can mean less image detail. The right trade-off depends on the footage and should be checked visually.
Set up the live encoder
YouTube’s live guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest and H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video encoding options. For an RTMP or RTMPS setup, it lists AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR), supports up to 60 fps, recommends a two-second keyframe interval, and says the interval should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Check the current guidance for your chosen codec and resolution before launch: YouTube live encoder settings.

- Open YouTube Studio and create or select the stream. Use the encoder workflow described in YouTube’s instructions for creating a live stream with an encoder. Configure the stream in YouTube Studio, then use its stream key in the encoder. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control the stream.
- Select the video settings. Choose H.264 if you want to use the bitrate examples above, set the resolution and frame rate you intend to stream, and set CBR. Use the source’s frame rate where practical rather than increasing it unnecessarily.
- Set keyframes and audio. Set the keyframe interval to two seconds and never above four seconds. For RTMP/RTMPS, select AAC or MP3 audio as supported by your encoder and the YouTube guidance.
- Choose RTMPS where available. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Use the server and key details shown for your stream in YouTube Studio; do not reuse a key in a place you cannot secure.
- Run a representative test and check stream health. Include the kinds of movement, backgrounds, Hindi text and audio that will appear in the actual stream. Watch the stream preview and any health messages in YouTube’s Live Control Room before relying on it.

Encode uploaded video files separately
If the goal is to upload smaller source videos before streaming them, YouTube’s upload recommendations are a different set of settings from its live ingest table. For uploads, YouTube recommends an MP4 container, H.264 video, progressive scan, a frame rate consistent with the recording, and BT.709 for SDR video. Its SDR bitrate recommendations include:

These are upload recommendations from YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings, not live encoder targets. The cited page does not specify an ideal encoder quality-slider value, a target file size, a Hindi-specific preset or a guaranteed compression ratio. To reduce file size, make a short sample encode at a lower bitrate and inspect it at the size viewers will see. Check speech clarity, music, motion and the edges of Devanagari characters; if they become difficult to read or the image breaks up, use a higher bitrate or preserve the source file.
Keep the stream running continuously
A continuous stream needs more than a good encode. If you run an encoder locally, the computer, encoder, network and source playlist all need to keep working. Set the playlist to repeat, prevent sleep if appropriate, and decide how you will restore the stream after a power, software or connection failure. These are operating steps for a local setup, not guarantees of uptime or recovery.

YouTube’s encoder setup help also names Gyre as a cloud-based option for streaming prerecorded videos 24/7. That makes it a workflow to investigate, not a YouTube endorsement. Review the provider’s current features and terms before relying on any third-party service.

Diagnose common live-stream problems
If the stream fails or its quality is poor, use YouTube’s Live Control Room health messages to identify the issue rather than assuming the platform will repair the outgoing feed. See YouTube’s live streaming error messages.
