In YouTube Studio on a computer, go to Earn > Memberships > Get started, accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM), and set up policy-compliant membership levels and perks. A 24/7 stream does not have a separate membership switch: eligibility and activation are handled at the channel level.
Check whether your channel is eligible
YouTube’s published channel-membership criteria include joining the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), being at least 18, and living in a location where memberships are available. The current guidance lists a threshold of 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the past 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the past 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in the past 90 days. These thresholds do not guarantee approval; YouTube reviews channels for policy compliance. Check YouTube’s channel-membership eligibility guidance and your channel’s status in Studio > Earn.
Additional restrictions apply. A channel must not be set as Made for Kids, and YouTube says channels with a significant number of videos set as Made for Kids are also ineligible. Music channels under SRAV are excluded. You must accept the CPM to earn membership revenue. Eligibility and availability can change, so Studio’s Earn page is the practical place to confirm your channel’s current status.
YPP requirements are separate from the membership threshold
YouTube’s general YPP checklist also includes following monetization policies, being in a supported country or region, having no active Community Guidelines strikes, enabling 2-Step Verification, having access to advanced features, and linking or creating an AdSense for YouTube account. Meeting the published thresholds is not an acceptance guarantee; YouTube reviews each channel. See the YPP overview for its current requirements. YouTube flags a planned YPP-terms update for February 1, 2027, so recheck the official page if you are applying after that date.
Turn on memberships in YouTube Studio
- On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio with the channel account.
- In the left menu, select Earn, then open Memberships. YouTube surfaces this tab only when it considers the channel eligible.
- Select Get started and follow the setup prompts. If asked, review and accept the Commerce Product Module. You, and your MCN if applicable, must accept the CPM for membership revenue.
- Create membership levels and choose perks that comply with YouTube’s policies. YouTube reviews levels and perks before they go live.
- Wait for the review to finish. After YPP acceptance, YouTube says the Memberships tab can take up to two days to appear while it reviews the channel.
Supported perks can include badges, emoji, posts, live chat, members-only live streams and videos, among other options. For network-managed channels, the network may need to enable memberships and accept the CPM in Studio Settings > Agreements. What memberships mean for a 24/7 live stream
YouTube lists memberships among the features available for eligible live streams. The stream’s continuous format does not bypass channel eligibility or the activation steps above. You can use configured member benefits such as members-only live streams, or enable member-only chat on a public stream.
With member-only chat on a public live stream, everyone can still watch the stream, but only members can post in chat. When a viewer joins during a live stream, YouTube may show a new-member message in chat and pin that member’s profile image for five minutes. Membership access to a benefit and access to the public broadcast are distinct: members-only chat does not make the video itself members-only. Plan separately for a replay or archive
Do not assume YouTube will preserve a full 24/7 broadcast as a replay. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need an archive, arrange a local recording and storage plan; memberships do not provide a backup recording. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive for this reason. - No Memberships tab: YouTube shows it only when the channel is eligible. Check Studio > Earn for YPP status and missing requirements, then review age, country availability, subscriber and activity thresholds, content restrictions, and policy status.
- Recently accepted into YPP: Allow up to two days for YouTube’s review to make the tab available.
- Setup cannot be completed: Confirm that the CPM has been accepted by the creator and, where relevant, the MCN. For a network-managed channel, check Studio Settings > Agreements with the network.
- A level or perk does not go live: YouTube reviews membership levels and perks against its policies. Revisit the proposed benefit and the applicable membership guidance before submitting it again.
- The stream has no complete replay: A broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Use the separate local-recording plan if retaining the full programme matters.
