The setting is channel-level: YouTube’s published setup instructions do not describe a separate activation process for a 24/7 stream. The Supers tab appears only for eligible channels.
Check channel eligibility first
If Supers is missing from the Earn area, first check whether the channel and creator meet YouTube’s requirements. YouTube’s fan-funding policy requires the creator to be in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), be at least 18, and be in a location where Super Chat is available. The channel must also accept and comply with the applicable terms, including the CPM where required. YouTube’s Super Chat eligibility and availability information explains the feature-specific conditions.
YouTube’s monetization page lists expanded YPP entry thresholds of 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours on long-form videos in the last 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days. Super Chat is listed among the features available at that tier, but meeting an entry threshold does not by itself guarantee every feature: feature-specific requirements still apply. Check YouTube’s current YPP eligibility information for your location and channel status.
Enable Super Chat in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio with the channel that will host the live stream.
- Open Earn in the left-hand menu, then select Supers. If the tab is absent, resolve channel eligibility before looking for a stream-specific switch.
- Select Get started if YouTube displays it, and follow the on-screen setup prompts.
- Review and accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM) if prompted.
- Turn on Super Chat and finish any remaining prompts shown in Studio.
YouTube’s current instructions describe this activation workflow in its Super Chat setup guide. An encoder is not required to turn on the feature; it is only one way to send a live broadcast.

Check the individual live stream
Channel eligibility is not enough if the particular live video is ineligible. Super Chat is unavailable on age-restricted, unlisted, or private videos, videos marked Made for Kids, and YouTube Giving fundraiser streams. It is also unavailable if live chat or comments are turned off. Keep live chat enabled and make sure the stream’s visibility and audience settings allow Supers. See YouTube’s per-video Super Chat restrictions.
- Visibility: use a public stream rather than an unlisted or private one.
- Audience: do not mark the stream Made for Kids if that is not the correct audience setting. Audience designation must reflect the content, not be changed merely to enable a feature.
- Age restriction: an age-restricted live video cannot use Super Chat.
- Chat: do not disable live chat or comments for the stream.
- Fundraiser: YouTube Giving fundraiser videos are not eligible for Super Chat.
What changes—and does not change—for a 24/7 stream
The Super Chat control remains in YouTube Studio; YouTube’s instructions do not specify a special activation setting for continuous broadcasts. The broadcast still needs a way to send video and audio to YouTube. For an encoder-based stream, YouTube’s workflow is to create or schedule a live stream, connect the encoder with the stream URL and stream key, and start sending the stream. YouTube also supports other ways to go live, including mobile, webcam, and console workflows. Read YouTube’s encoder live-streaming instructions.

Do not count on YouTube keeping a complete replay of an uninterrupted day-long broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. If retaining the full program matters, make a separate recording and plan its storage and continuity. The archive limitation is described in YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
What creators receive from Super Chat
YouTube says creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google. The share is calculated after local sales tax and iOS App Store fees; YouTube says it currently covers transaction costs such as credit-card fees. This is YouTube’s stated Supers revenue calculation, not a guarantee of earnings from any particular stream. Details are in YouTube’s Super Chat information.

Troubleshoot a missing or unavailable Super Chat option
- No Supers tab in Studio: check YPP membership, creator age, location availability, and applicable commerce terms. YouTube says the tab appears only when the channel is eligible.
- Supers is available, but the live video cannot use Super Chat: check that the stream is not private, unlisted, age-restricted, Made for Kids, or a YouTube Giving fundraiser, and that chat and comments are enabled.
- Setup stops at a terms prompt: complete the CPM or other on-screen terms acceptance where required, then revisit the Supers controls.
- The stream is live but the archive is incomplete or absent: a broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be captured as a replay. Use a separate recording if replay retention is important.
