Samsung Music plays compatible audio files stored on your Galaxy device; it is not a universal store for downloading any song. To use it offline, get a legitimate audio file such as an MP3 or FLAC, save or transfer that file to the device, then open Samsung Music. Spotify and YouTube Music offline downloads are different: they are generally managed inside those services’ apps, not available as ordinary files for Samsung Music.
What “download music” means on a Galaxy device

Samsung Music’s primary role is playing and organizing audio files on the device. Its library can sort tracks by categories such as tracks, albums, artists, genres, folders, and composers. Samsung’s Google Play listing names MP3, AAC, and FLAC support, while noting that supported formats may vary by device: Samsung Music on Google Play.
The app may be preinstalled or available through the Galaxy Store or Google Play, depending on your Galaxy model, software, carrier, and region. Check the Galaxy Store listing or Google Play listing if you cannot find it.
Before transferring or downloading songs
- Install or update Samsung Music if it is available for your device.
- Have enough free internal storage for the audio files.
- Use music you own, have permission to use, or are licensed to download.
- For a computer transfer, use a USB cable that supports data transfer, not charging only.
- Allow Samsung Music access to audio or media files when Android prompts you. Samsung’s setup guidance says the app may ask you to accept its terms and grant storage access before tracks appear: Samsung’s Galaxy music-transfer and playback guidance.
Transfer music from a Windows PC
- Connect the Galaxy phone or tablet to the PC with a USB data cable.
- Unlock the Galaxy device. Open its USB notification and choose the file-transfer option, which may be labelled File transfer / Android Auto. The wording can vary by One UI version and device.
- On the PC, open the Galaxy device in File Explorer, then open Internal storage.
- Open the Music folder, or create it if needed.
- Copy compatible audio files from the PC into that folder.
- Safely eject or disconnect the Galaxy device.
- Open Samsung Music, grant media access if prompted, and look under Tracks, Albums, Artists, or Folders.
Samsung confirms that music can be transferred from a PC to a Galaxy phone or tablet and then located in My Files or Samsung Music: Samsung support: transfer music to a Galaxy device. Tracks may be indexed under their album or artist rather than in a category called Downloads.

If the PC does not show the Galaxy device
- Unlock the phone before reconnecting it.
- Try a different cable; some cables carry power but not data.
- Try another USB port, then reopen the USB notification and choose file transfer.
- Install pending device or computer updates and restart both devices.
- Check the phone’s My Files app to see whether files arrived. If USB transfer continues to fail, use a supported Samsung transfer tool or another computer.
Transfer music from a Mac or Chromebook
From a Mac
- Install a supported Android file-transfer utility or equivalent transfer route. Samsung’s guidance refers to Android File Transfer or an equivalent method; current Mac software availability and recommendations can change.
- Connect and unlock the Galaxy device, then select file transfer on the phone.
- Open the device’s internal storage in the transfer utility and copy tracks to Music.
- Disconnect the device and check the Samsung Music library.

From a Chromebook
Use a USB data connection and the Chromebook’s available file-management transfer option if it recognizes the Galaxy device. Unlock the phone and select file transfer when prompted. Copy files into internal storage, preferably the Music folder. If the Chromebook does not expose the phone’s storage, transfer the files through a computer that does, a supported file-sharing method, or cloud storage by downloading the actual files onto the Galaxy device.
Download an audio file directly to your Galaxy
- Use the official download control on a music store, artist or label page, archive, or other legitimate source.
- Save the file to the device. The browser or source app may place it in Downloads.
- Open My Files and check Downloads or Audio.
- If you want a consistent music folder, move the file to Internal storage > Music.
- Open Samsung Music and check its library categories.
Menu names and default locations can vary. Samsung’s guidance identifies My Files as a way to locate music under Audio and explains that Samsung Music can access compatible files stored on the device: Samsung support. A filename ending in .mp3, .m4a, .aac, or .flac does not guarantee playback: the codec, container, DRM status, file condition, device, and software version all matter.

Move songs from another phone, cloud storage, or a memory card
You can transfer actual audio files from another Android phone by USB, Quick Share, or Nearby Share, where available. A cloud service works too, but download the audio file itself to the Galaxy device; a cloud shortcut or stream-only item is not a local file Samsung Music can scan. You can also use a microSD card if your particular Galaxy model has a card slot. For a large library, a computer can serve as an intermediate transfer point.
Whatever route you choose, the end result must be a compatible audio file stored locally and accessible to Samsung Music.
Get Spotify or YouTube Music songs for offline listening

YouTube Music
With YouTube Music Premium, users can download songs, albums, playlists, and podcasts for offline playback within YouTube Music. Music downloads require the app to reconnect to the internet at least once every 30 days to remain available. Storage use depends on available space and the amount and quality of downloaded content. These service downloads are not ordinary MP3 files to move into Samsung Music. Samsung’s support page also describes a separate option in YouTube Music to show device files, under Library & downloads and Show device files. That option displays local files; it does not convert subscription downloads into files: Samsung support.

Spotify’s offline downloads are intended for playback in Spotify, not as transferable files in Samsung Music. Spotify says downloaded music must be downloaded again after reinstalling the app, illustrating that an offline download is managed by the service rather than serving as a personal MP3 file. Spotify also has a distinct Local Files feature for audio already stored on a device; on Android, enable local files in Spotify settings and find them in the library. Samsung Music’s Spotify area offers recommendations and links into Spotify in supported markets; it does not import Spotify’s subscription downloads. Samsung describes this feature in its Google Play listing.

Amazon Music
Amazon Music is another catalog-based streaming service, not a method for creating ordinary files for Samsung Music. On July 15, 2026, Samsung announced a limited three-month Amazon Music Unlimited offer for eligible new subscribers who download through the Galaxy Store; the announcement says monthly pricing may change. Check the file and its location
- Open My Files and confirm the audio file exists under Audio, Downloads, or the folder where you copied it.
- Confirm it is downloaded locally, not just visible in a cloud app.
- If it is inside a ZIP archive, extract it before expecting Samsung Music to scan it.
- Move the file to Internal storage > Music, then close and reopen Samsung Music or restart the phone to prompt a library refresh.
Check access, format, and protection
- Review Samsung Music’s permissions in Android settings and allow access to music or audio files.
- Verify the file is genuinely audio and that its extension matches its contents; renaming a video or unsupported file does not convert it.
- Try another compatible player to distinguish an indexing issue from a playback issue.
- Check for an unsupported codec or container, corruption, or unusual metadata.
- Some purchased music is protected by DRM and may not work on Galaxy devices. Samsung specifically warns of this possibility: Samsung support.
- If the “download” came from Spotify, YouTube Music, or another streaming app, it is likely app-managed content rather than a local audio file.
A copied playlist shortcut alone is not the audio: transfer the underlying files too. Files in hidden or excluded folders may also be omitted from a player’s library.
Choose formats and organize a library

MP3, AAC, and FLAC are named in the Samsung Music Google Play listing, which cautions that support varies by device. Do not assume a particular bitrate, sample rate, or maximum resolution without checking your exact Galaxy model.

Lossless files and higher-quality downloads usually use more storage than compressed files. The number of tracks that fit depends on their sizes and your available device storage; Samsung Music does not set a fixed song limit. YouTube Music likewise notes that download capacity depends on storage and the length and quality of content in its download guidance.
For library order, check each file’s embedded artist, album, album-artist, and track fields. Compilation tracks may need consistent album-artist tags; spelling differences can split one album into multiple entries. If tracks are grouped oddly, use a reputable desktop tag editor to correct the metadata, then transfer the updated files again. Folder organization can be useful even when tags are incomplete. Cover art depends on embedded artwork or metadata and may be missing from otherwise playable files.
Download music legally and safely
Use downloads that you own, are expressly permitted to save, or are offered under a license that allows downloading. Suitable sources include artist or label pages, DRM-free stores, public-domain archives, Creative Commons libraries, and purchases whose terms permit transfer between your devices. Check the source’s license and purchase terms; “free” does not automatically mean unrestricted reuse.

Avoid unauthorized video-to-MP3 converters, torrent sources, cracked apps, unauthorized downloaders, and DRM-removal tools. They may violate rights or service terms and can expose a device to malware or privacy risks.
Which option fits your listening habits?
- Use Samsung Music if you already have compatible audio files and want a local library you can organize and back up, subject to licensing and DRM restrictions.
- Use YouTube Music Premium if you want its streaming catalog and app-managed offline playback; music downloads require Premium and need periodic online verification.
- Use Spotify if playlists, discovery, and multi-device streaming matter, and you understand that Spotify Local Files and Spotify downloads are separate features.
- Consider Amazon Music if you already use Amazon’s services or qualify for a Galaxy Store promotion; offers and service terms can change.
Samsung Music and streaming subscriptions solve different problems: one organizes local files, while the others provide catalog access and app-managed offline listening. For current subscription terms, consult the services’ official pages, including Spotify Premium and Amazon Music Unlimited.
