Amazon Music Unlimited and Prime Music downloads are for offline playback inside the Amazon Music app, not official MP3 export. If you need a transferable audio file, the legitimate exception is music purchased as an Amazon MP3. A purchased MP3 may be downloadable from your Amazon Music library, subject to your account, region, and current Amazon interface.
First, identify what you downloaded

A song appearing in your Amazon Music library does not necessarily mean that you own it. Library content can include subscription, Prime, and purchased music.
How to download Amazon Music for offline listening
If your goal is simply to listen without an internet connection, use Amazon’s official app:
- Install or open the Amazon Music app on your supported phone, tablet, or computer.
- Sign in to the Amazon account associated with Prime or Amazon Music Unlimited.
- Open a song, album, playlist, or eligible Prime All-Access Playlist.
- Select Download, or open the relevant More menu and choose the download option.
- Wait for the download to finish over Wi-Fi.
- Find it in the app’s Library, Downloaded, or Offline area.
Amazon’s labels and menus can vary by operating system, app version, country, and account. These downloads remain managed by Amazon Music. They are not ordinary files that you can drag into Finder, File Explorer, VLC, an SD card, or another music player.

Amazon’s Music FAQ lists approximate storage requirements for a 3½-minute song of about 9 MB in SD, 51 MB in HD, and 153 MB in Ultra HD. Choose the download quality that fits your available storage. Higher-quality downloads can use substantially more space.
Offline access is tied to the applicable service authorization and plan terms. It should not be treated as permanent ownership, and access can change if your subscription, eligibility, or offline authorization changes.
How to download a purchased Amazon MP3
This is the path to use when you bought the music as an Amazon MP3 rather than merely adding it to a subscription library.
- Sign in to the Amazon account used to make the purchase.
- Open Amazon Music and go to your Library.
- Look for Purchased, Music Purchases, or a similarly named category.
- Search for the artist, album, or track.
- Select the available Download control.
- Save the file in a clearly named folder.
- Check that the resulting file has a normal audio extension, such as
.mp3. - Import it into your preferred music player or copy it to a compatible personal device.
Amazon’s current button names and download availability can differ by region and account. Amazon’s payment documentation identifies MP3 songs as digital purchases, but it does not document every current consumer-interface path. If no download button appears, follow the troubleshooting steps below rather than assuming that every library item is an owned MP3.

Why Unlimited and Prime downloads are not MP3 files
Amazon’s technical documentation describes Amazon Music playback as using encrypted media segments and DRM licensing. The system is designed to prevent catalog media from being downloaded or copied for use outside Amazon Music. See Amazon’s playback overview and program requirements.
That is why an offline song may exist as app-managed data on your device without being a playable MP3. Do not rename cache files, search for hidden audio data, or attempt to decrypt or extract them. Those actions are not an Amazon-supported workflow.
If a purchased song is missing
- Confirm that you are signed in to the Amazon account that made the purchase.
- Check your digital-order history or music-purchase history.
- Search using the exact artist, album, and track title.
- Check whether the purchase was made through another Amazon country store.
- Sign out and back in to refresh the library.
- Update the official Amazon Music app.
- Try the Amazon Music website or desktop app if both are available for your account.
- Contact Amazon customer support with the order number if the purchase still cannot be found.
Historical purchases and digital-content availability can vary by country, account, and current Amazon terms. Do not assume that a missing download control means the track was necessarily purchased—or that every old purchase is available through every current app.

No third-party “Amazon Music to MP3” converter should be treated as official unless Amazon explicitly endorses it. Such tools may record playback, attempt to bypass DRM, or request access to your Amazon account. Depending on the tool and your jurisdiction, using one may also conflict with service terms or applicable copyright law.

Common risks include malware, credential theft, aggressive advertising, bundled software, poor-quality real-time recording, incorrect tags, broken album splits, and failure after Amazon changes its app or authentication system. A converter also cannot turn a subscription license into permanent ownership.
This article does not provide instructions for bypassing DRM, extracting cache files, intercepting playback URLs, or recording protected streams.

- Need convenient offline listening? Use Amazon Music’s official download feature.
- Need a transferable MP3? Purchase an Amazon MP3 when that product is offered, or use a music store that clearly sells downloadable files.
- Already own the music on CD? Import the disc with a desktop audio application, subject to the permissions and laws applicable to your use.
- Need non-subscription, high-quality downloads? Choose a store whose product page identifies the downloadable format and permitted use.
- Need music for a documentary, video, podcast, livestream, or commercial project? Obtain an appropriate synchronization or commercial license. Owning or downloading a song does not automatically grant those rights.
Common questions
Can I download Amazon Music Unlimited songs to my computer as MP3?
Not through Amazon’s official subscription-download feature. You can download eligible content for playback in Amazon Music, but not export it as a normal MP3.
Are Prime Music downloads MP3s?
No. Prime offline listening remains within Amazon Music and is currently limited to eligible All-Access Playlists according to Amazon’s FAQ.

Can I transfer Amazon Music downloads to an SD card?
Subscription downloads are app-managed and are not intended to be copied as ordinary MP3 files to an SD card.
Can I play Amazon Music downloads in VLC?
Not when they are offline subscription downloads. VLC can play a normal purchased audio file if Amazon provides it as a standard compatible file.
Do Amazon MP3 purchases work after canceling Unlimited?
A purchased Amazon MP3 is distinct from subscription access. Locate it through the purchasing account and its available download controls; do not confuse it with Unlimited tracks saved for offline listening.
