Install Apple Music on Windows 11 through Microsoft Store: open the Store, search for the official Apple Music app, and select Get. After installation, sign in with the Apple Account linked to your subscription or purchases. The app is separate from an Apple Music subscription, and a USB DAC is optional rather than an installation requirement.
Install Apple Music on Windows 11
The official way to download Apple Music on Windows 11 is through the Microsoft Store. Open the Store, search for Apple Music, select the official app, and choose Get. Avoid third-party download sites and unofficial installers.
What you need before starting
- A Windows 11 PC with access to Microsoft Store
- An internet connection
- A Microsoft account if Microsoft Store asks you to sign in to complete the download
- An Apple Account if you want to use an Apple Music subscription, purchased music, or library synchronization
Installing the app is separate from subscribing to Apple Music. You can install the application without starting a subscription, but subscription features require an eligible Apple Music plan.
How to download and install Apple Music
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Microsoft Store and open the Store app.
- Use the Store search box to search for Apple Music.
- Select the official Apple Music app published through Microsoft Store.
- Choose Get.
- Wait while Windows downloads and installs the app. The time required depends on your connection and PC.
- When installation finishes, choose the Store’s launch control, or open Start and select Apple Music from the app list.
Microsoft Store apps can receive updates through the Store. Do not assume that an update will arrive at a particular time; update behavior can vary by Windows and Store settings.

Sign in to Apple Music
- Open Apple Music from the Start menu.
- Select Sign In at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Enter the Apple Account associated with your Apple Music subscription or iTunes Store purchases.
Use the same Apple Account you use on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or other Apple devices. If you are already signed in through the Apple TV app on the same Windows PC, Apple says you are automatically signed in to Apple Music as well.
Start an Apple Music subscription
Installing Apple Music does not automatically subscribe you. If you do not have an active subscription, open the app, select Home, and choose Try It Now if that option is available for your account and region. Follow the on-screen instructions to review the available plan and complete enrollment.
Subscription availability, trial offers, pricing, and plan options can vary by country or region and can change over time. A subscription is what provides access to the Apple Music catalog, recommendations, playlists, and eligible offline downloads.
Turn on Sync Library
Sync Library lets eligible users access a matching music library across devices signed in with the same Apple Account. To enable it in the Windows app:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Open the sidebar actions menu in Apple Music.
- Select Settings.
- Open General.
- Turn on Sync Library.
Sync Library is not simply a local-file sharing switch. It depends on the appropriate Apple Music subscription or, in applicable situations, iTunes Match, and the same Apple Account must be used on the other devices. Give the library time to synchronize after enabling the setting.
What Apple Music for Windows can do
After signing in, Apple Music for Windows can provide access to the Apple Music catalog, personal playlists, recommendations, synchronized libraries, and offline downloads for eligible subscribers. Purchased music from the iTunes Store can also be redownloaded after signing in with the Apple Account used to buy it.
Your PC may need authorization before purchased music can be redownloaded. If music does not appear, first check that you are using the purchasing Apple Account rather than a different account used for a subscription or another device.

Important limits on downloaded subscription music
Offline downloads from an Apple Music subscription are intended for playback inside Apple Music. They cannot be burned to a disc or manually transferred to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod as ordinary music files. Those devices must download the subscription music directly through Apple Music.
This limitation is different from music you purchased from the iTunes Store. Purchased items may have different download and transfer options, subject to Apple’s current software and account rules.
Apple Music and Windows 11 S mode
Windows 11 in S mode allows apps from Microsoft Store, so S mode is not automatically a problem for Apple Music when the official app is available in the Store. Use the Store installation path rather than downloading an installer from elsewhere.
The restriction matters if you try to install software outside Microsoft Store. Switching out of S mode is permanent: Microsoft says you cannot switch back after leaving it. There is no reason to leave S mode merely to install Apple Music through the official Store listing.
Apple Music is missing from Microsoft Store
If searching the Store does not show Apple Music, check these points first:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Search for the full name Apple Music, not just “Apple” or “iTunes.”
- Confirm that you selected the official Apple Music listing rather than an unrelated music player.
- Check whether Microsoft Store is signed in and working normally.
- Install available Windows and Microsoft Store updates, then search again.
- Consider regional availability and the system requirements shown on the Store listing.
Store listings and availability can change. If Microsoft Store itself will not open, use Microsoft’s current Microsoft Store troubleshooting guidance instead of applying random registry edits or downloading a replacement installer from a third-party website.
When to use iTunes for Windows instead
For a supported Windows 11 PC, Apple Music is the preferred dedicated app. Apple identifies iTunes for Windows as a fallback for computers that do not meet the requirements for Apple’s dedicated Windows apps and for users who need podcast or audiobook management.
Rank #3
- Wireless Bluetooth streaming
- 12 hours of playtime
- IPX7 waterproof
- Pair multiple speakers with party boost
- Premium JBL sound quality
Therefore, do not install iTunes simply because it is familiar or because a third-party website offers an old installer. Use it when Apple’s compatibility guidance or your specific podcast and audiobook requirements make it the appropriate option. Installing iTunes will not solve every Microsoft Store or Apple Account problem.
Fix common installation and sign-in problems
Microsoft Store will not open
Restart Windows, confirm that you have an internet connection, and check for pending Windows updates. If the Store still fails, follow Microsoft’s current Store troubleshooting process. Avoid unofficial “Store repair” utilities and registry changes unless you understand exactly what they change and have a recovery plan.
The Get button does not work
Confirm that Microsoft Store is signed in if it requests a Microsoft account. Check available disk space, pause other large downloads, and restart the PC. A temporary Store service or account issue can also prevent an app from starting its download.
If the issue also involves broader Windows configuration or application-crash symptoms, you can optionally evaluate Outbyte PC Repair after following the official troubleshooting steps.
Apple Music installs but will not show your library
Open the sidebar and check the Apple Account under Sign In. Then confirm that Sync Library is enabled under Settings > General. The account must match the one used on your other devices, and Sync Library requires the appropriate subscription or iTunes Match context.
Purchased music is missing
Sign out only if necessary; first verify the Apple Account. Purchased music is tied to the account that bought it, and the PC might require authorization before redownloading purchases. A subscription account and a purchasing account are not necessarily the same account.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Audio will not play
Check the Windows output device and Apple Music’s playback settings, then test the speakers or headphones with another application. If the problem affects multiple Windows applications, the cause may be a Windows audio setting, device connection, or driver rather than Apple Music itself.
Enable lossless audio in Apple Music for Windows
Apple Music for Windows supports Lossless audio up to 24-bit/48 kHz and Hi-Res Lossless audio up to 24-bit/192 kHz, where the relevant catalog item and regional availability support it.

- RICH JBL ORIGINAL PRO SOUND: The legendary JBL signature sound delivers surprisingly big audio and punchy bass from Go 3's small size.
- ULTRA-PORTABLE DESIGN: JBL Go 3's ultra-portable design goes great with the latest styles, and its colorful fabrics and expressive details make it look as great as it sounds.
- 5 HOURS OF PLAYTIME: Don't sweat the small stuff like charging your battery. Go 3 gives you up to 5 hours of battery life on a single charge.
- WIRELESS BLUETOOTH STREAMING: Wirelessly stream music from your phone, tablet, or any other Bluetooth-enabled device.
- IP67 WATERPROOF AND DUSTPROOF: To the pool. To the park. In the shower. JBL Go 3 is fully waterproof and dustproof, so you can bring your speaker anywhere.
To find the setting:
- Open the Apple Music sidebar actions menu.
- Select Settings.
- Choose Playback.
- Enable lossless audio and choose the desired streaming and download quality.
Higher quality uses more data and storage. Lossless playback is also limited by the source recording, your Windows audio path, and the capabilities of your speakers, headphones, receiver, or other equipment.
Do you need a DAC?
No. A DAC is not required to install Apple Music or to listen to ordinary Apple Music playback. Apple says lossless audio can be played through built-in speakers and wired headphones, receivers, or powered speakers. An external DAC becomes relevant on a PC when you want to listen at sample rates higher than 48 kHz.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11If your system is built around wired headphones or powered speakers and you specifically want Hi-Res Lossless playback, an optional USB DAC for PC can provide a suitable digital-to-analog connection. Check the DAC’s supported sample rates and Windows compatibility before buying. A DAC alone does not guarantee an audible improvement, and Bluetooth behavior depends on the particular computer, codec, headset, and receiver.
Frequently asked questions
Is Apple Music free to download on Windows 11?
The app is downloaded through Microsoft Store, but access to the Apple Music subscription catalog generally requires a subscription. Installing the app and subscribing are separate actions.
Can I install Apple Music without an Apple device?
Yes. A Windows 11 PC can run the Apple Music app through Microsoft Store. You need an Apple Account for subscription access, purchased music, and features such as library synchronization.
Can I install Apple Music outside Microsoft Store?
The recommended Windows 11 route is Microsoft Store. Do not use an unofficial installer when the official Store listing is available.
Should I install iTunes instead?
Usually not for a supported Windows 11 PC that only needs Apple Music. Use iTunes as a fallback for systems that do not meet the dedicated-app requirements or when you specifically need its podcast or audiobook management features.
Why is my Apple Music library different on Windows?
The most common causes are signing in with a different Apple Account or leaving Sync Library disabled. Check Settings > General > Sync Library and use the account associated with the library.
