You can download eligible Prime Video titles to a Windows 10 or 11 PC or a Mac using Amazon’s official Prime Video app. The website is for streaming, not the official desktop download route. Install the app, sign in, open a title that offers downloads, and choose Download. The downloaded video plays inside the app; it is not a regular video file to export or open in another player.
What you need before downloading
- An Amazon account with access to the title, whether through Prime, a rental or purchase, or a channel subscription.
- The official Prime Video app and a supported operating system.
- An internet connection to install the app, sign in, and download the title.
- Enough free storage on the computer.
- A title that Amazon makes downloadable in your marketplace. Availability can differ by title, location, subscription, and content type.
Amazon lists the Prime Video apps for Windows 10 and 11 and macOS as download-capable. Its computer requirements page also lists browser playback in current Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, and Opera on supported computers, but watching in a browser does not provide the official desktop download feature. Amazon’s broader requirements page says macOS 11.4 Big Sur or later; the current U.S. Mac App Store listing reports macOS 14.0 or later. Because those published requirements differ, check the compatibility panel on the live Mac App Store listing before installing rather than assuming an older Mac can run the current app.

- Install or open the official Prime Video app for Windows 10 or Windows 11. Use Amazon’s support route or the official Microsoft Store listing; avoid third-party installers.
- Sign in with the Amazon account that has access to the film or show.
- Search or browse for the title, then open its detail page.
- Select Download if that option appears. For a series, download the season if offered or choose the download icon beside individual episodes.
- If the app offers a storage-location choice, select a drive with sufficient free space. Amazon advises against saving downloads to USB-connected drives.
- Open the app’s Downloads area to check progress and find the title for offline playback.
Amazon confirms that movies are downloaded from their detail pages and that TV episodes may be downloaded individually or as a season. The Windows app lets users choose where downloads are saved; available controls can vary by app version and title. See Amazon’s download instructions.

How to download Prime Video on a Mac
- Open the App Store on your Mac and search for Amazon Prime Video.
- Confirm the developer is AMZN Mobile LLC, then install or update the app. Check the listing’s current macOS compatibility before proceeding.
- Open Prime Video and sign in to the account with access to the title.
- Find a film or show, open its detail page, and select Download if available. For a series, choose a season or download episodes individually when those options appear.
- Open the app’s Downloads area to monitor the download and later play it offline.
Apple’s U.S. listing describes the Mac app as free with in-app purchases and identifies offline downloads as a feature. The app listing’s current requirement is macOS 14.0 or later, while Amazon’s computer-help page says macOS 11.4 or later; check the live App Store compatibility information for your Mac. How to watch a download without internet
- While online, finish the download and confirm it appears in the app’s Downloads area.
- Start the Prime Video app and select the downloaded film or episode there.
- Test playback before leaving internet access. This can reveal an app, account, storage, or title-access problem while you can still address it.
Downloads are controlled by the app and the applicable account, title, and licensing rules; they are not permanent ownership of an unrestricted video file. Amazon says compatibility and content-access requirements can change. Consult its Terms of Use for the applicable conditions.

Why there may be no Download button
- You are on the website. Browser streaming is supported, but desktop downloading is through the Prime Video app.
- The title is not downloadable. Rights may differ by marketplace, title, or content category.
- A channel or other subscription has different rules. Check the specific title and channel access terms rather than assuming every listing has the same download option.
- You do not have access to that title on this account. Confirm the account and subscription, rental, or purchase associated with it.
- The app or operating system is outdated or unsupported. Update the app and check the requirements for your platform.
- Storage is low. Free space on the computer before retrying.
- A device, account, or title limit may apply. Limits vary; Amazon does not establish one universal number for every marketplace and content type.
- A licensing or network check has failed, or availability changed. Reopen the title while online and check that it remains available to your account.
Amazon’s terms distinguish devices that can stream from those that can download, and note that compatibility requirements can change. If a title is available only for streaming, reinstalling the app will not make it downloadable. See the Terms of Use.
What to do when a download fails
- Confirm you are using the official app, not a browser.
- Check the computer’s operating-system version and install available app updates.
- Open the title page and verify that Download is offered.
- Check free storage and, on Windows, use internal storage rather than a USB-connected drive.
- Check the internet connection, then close and reopen the app.
- If sign-in seems stuck, sign out and back in.
- Remove the failed or expired entry through the app and try the download again.
- Restart the computer. If multiple titles still fail, check Amazon’s service and help pages or contact Amazon support about an account-specific problem.
Do not delete hidden app or DRM folders manually. That can remove downloaded data without resolving an account, licensing, or network issue.

Where downloads are stored—and what you can do with them
Prime Video manages downloaded titles inside its app. They are protected app downloads, not ordinary MP4 files intended for VLC, editing, or export. On Windows, the app provides a storage-location choice; Amazon advises against a USB-connected drive. Avoid relying on a particular hidden folder path, which can vary with the app and operating system. Amazon’s download help covers storage and playback.
You should not expect to copy a download to another computer as a portable video. Unofficial downloaders, browser extensions, screen recorders, or DRM-removal tools are not Amazon’s download method and can bring security, privacy, terms, or playback problems. Amazon defines compatible devices and access conditions in its Terms of Use.

Can you cast a download to a TV?
Amazon says downloaded Prime Video content cannot be played through Chromecast or AirPlay. Downloading on a computer therefore does not guarantee that its offline copy can be cast wirelessly. The safest expectation for travel is playback on the computer itself. An external display may depend on the app, computer, adapter, and content-protection support, so do not assume every HDMI setup will work offline. See Amazon’s download help.

If your computer is not supported
Amazon also lists iOS, Android, and Fire tablets as download-capable devices. A phone or tablet may be a practical offline option if your computer cannot install the current app. Its downloads remain managed on that device; they do not become transferable PC or Mac files. Check Amazon’s supported download platforms.
