To show song requests on a 24/7 YouTube radio stream, add a queue overlay to the scene your encoder sends to YouTube. In OBS, the usual route is a Browser Source pointed at the overlay’s URL. The key is making sure the overlay receives updates from the same request and playback workflow you actually use; a queue graphic by itself does not connect YouTube chat to a music player.
Choose how requests enter and reach the queue
Decide first how listeners submit requests and who controls what gets played. Requests might come through YouTube chat, a separate submission page, or a moderator-managed queue. Then verify that the player and overlay both use that queue and that the overlay updates when a track changes or a new request is added.
Do not assume a tool supports YouTube chat just because it can display a queue. For example, a third-party OBS forum resource describes a browser-source overlay for a current track and upcoming queue, but its request context concerns Twitch, not confirmed YouTube-chat compatibility (OBS forum resources). Another community Nightbot dock listing says its AutoDJ page must remain open for queue processing and playback; that is a third-party listing, not official Nightbot guidance (OBS forum resources). Check the current documentation for your exact tool before building around it.
Set up the queue display in OBS
- Choose a queue overlay. Use one that exposes a browser-source URL, or build an overlay that reads data from your own playback/request queue. Confirm it can display the information you need: for example, current track, upcoming requests, requester names, artwork, or progress. These controls vary by overlay; their presence should not be assumed.
- Add it to the scene. In OBS, select the scene used for the broadcast, choose Sources → + → Browser, and enter the overlay URL in the URL field. Give the source a recognizable name such as “Track queue.”
- Set its size and position. Set the Browser Source dimensions to suit the overlay and your canvas, then drag and resize it in the preview. Check that it does not cover captions, documentary footage, or other essential graphics. If the overlay offers controls such as item count, theme, scale, width, or opacity, adjust them in its own settings.
- Test the actual data flow. Add a test request through the intended route, change the playing track, and confirm that the displayed current track and upcoming list refresh. Test removals or skips if moderators will use them. A static preview is not proof that live queue updates work.
- Check the complete scene and audio. Preview the exact scene, request method, playback source, and audio routing intended for the broadcast. Make a local recording if you need a complete archive independent of YouTube’s replay.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the live stream and retrieve its stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the current flow (Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter or connect the stream key using the available option. Treat the key like a password: do not show it in a scene, publish it, or share it with people who should not broadcast to your channel. Reset it if it is exposed.
- Start streaming from OBS and check the Live Control Room preview before making the stream public. Confirm that the queue is legible, the correct video and audio are playing, and requests update as expected.
- Test with the privacy setting and moderation process you intend to use. Do not launch a 24/7 schedule until the whole playback-to-request-to-overlay path has been checked.
Plan for replays and long-stream DVR limits
A 24/7 broadcast should not be treated as a guaranteed complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive if a complete recording matters (Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).
DVR lets viewers pause and rewind live streams, but YouTube says rewind on very long streams is limited and may be unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours (Turn on DVR on live streams). Treat the live channel and a dependable archive as separate needs.

Protect the channel from music-rights interruptions
YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the creator to have the rights needed to use live content, including music licensing rights (Livestream terms and conditions). A request queue does not grant permission to play requested songs.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If a match remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. Even when you have a license, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist so the live stream is not interrupted (Copyright issues with live streams). Check rights and any required allowlisting before accepting requests for copyrighted music.

Troubleshoot a queue that does not appear or update
- Browser Source is blank: Recheck the overlay URL and its access requirements. Confirm the overlay loads in a browser and that OBS’s Browser Source is using the same URL.
- The queue appears but stays stale: Confirm the overlay is connected to the active player/request queue, then test a new request and a track change. Check whether the overlay requires a refresh or a separate page/runtime to stay open.
- Requests arrive but do not show: Verify the request input is supported by the exact tool and that requests are being added to the queue the overlay reads. Do not assume YouTube chat is integrated.
- Playback or queue processing stops when a page closes: Check the tool’s operating requirements. The cited community AutoDJ dock listing says its page must remain open for playback and queue processing, so closing it could stop that workflow.
- Overlay covers the program or is hard to read: Adjust the Browser Source’s dimensions and position in the OBS scene, then check legibility against the actual footage and background.
- YouTube interrupts the broadcast: Review Live Control Room notices and address the matched content and rights situation. A valid license may still require the rights owner to allowlist the channel.
- The stream is live but no replay is available: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. Use a local recording when a complete archive is important.
