You can turn cleared tabletop RPG session recordings into a 24/7 YouTube livestream by sending a looping playlist from an encoder to YouTube. The key decisions are where that encoder runs, how you handle YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit, and whether you have the rights to rebroadcast every part of each session.
Before you stream: clear every part of the session
Use recordings you have permission to rebroadcast. For a tabletop RPG show, that means checking participant agreements as well as rights for music, artwork, overlays, maps, sound effects, and other third-party material. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility for the necessary rights, including music licensing rights, on the content provider (YouTube livestream terms and conditions).
Permission to use an asset does not guarantee that YouTube’s automated systems will recognize that permission. A rights holder may need to allowlist your channel, and archived streams can receive Content ID claims after the broadcast ends. Make sure your group understands that an always-on replay channel is a rebroadcast, not a private archive.
Choose where the looping encoder will run
YouTube receives a live feed from an encoder—software or hardware—using a YouTube server URL and stream key. The choice is whether you run that encoder locally or use a hosted service.

A cloud workflow can remove your home computer and connection from the live path, but features such as playlist handling and archive rotation depend on the service. YouTube’s API documentation also describes a more technical arrangement that keeps a 24/7 feed running while completing a separate broadcast resource; it is an API-managed pattern, not an automatic feature of a basic YouTube Studio setup (YouTube Live Streaming API: Understanding Broadcasts and Streams).
Set up the YouTube livestream
- Check eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours (Get started with live streaming).
- Create or schedule the stream in YouTube Studio. Choose its title, description, privacy, and other stream settings. Identify it clearly as a replay stream so viewers know they are watching recorded sessions.
- Connect the encoder. In YouTube Studio, open the stream’s settings and copy its server URL and stream key into your encoder. YouTube’s encoder instructions cover this connection workflow (Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder). Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it, and reset it if it is exposed.
- Build and start the playlist. Add only cleared VODs, arrange the playback order, and configure the encoder or hosted service to loop the list. Start the encoder feed and check the Live Control Room for incoming video and warnings before relying on it as an always-on channel.
Plan archives around YouTube’s 12-hour boundary
YouTube can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours, but says a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. That means one continuous 24/7 broadcast is not a dependable way to create a separate YouTube VOD for every session or day. Keep the source files, or a local recording backup, and plan to complete or rotate the viewer-facing broadcast before it crosses 12 hours if you need YouTube archives (Archive live streams).

A continuously running feed and a series of distinct broadcast archives are different goals. Google’s API documentation describes completing one broadcast resource while a continuing stream remains live, but implementing that pattern requires API-aware broadcast management; YouTube does not say a standard Studio stream will rotate archives automatically (Understanding broadcasts and streams).
Decide what viewers can rewind
Enable DVR when viewers should be able to pause or rewind during the current broadcast. Long streams may have limited or unavailable DVR after 12 hours, and viewers cannot seek to a time before that broadcast began (Turn on DVR on live streams). DVR is not a substitute for a completed, separately accessible session VOD.

Monitor copyright and monetization risks
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects material, it may warn you, replace the stream’s content, or interrupt the broadcast; archived streams can also be claimed later. Check the Live Control Room for warnings, and contact rights holders about allowlisting where needed—even if you believe your use is licensed (Copyright issues with live streams).
Monetization policies apply to livestreams. A repetitive or mass-produced presentation may be ineligible, and having permission to rebroadcast session recordings does not by itself establish eligibility under YouTube’s reused-content rules. Make the group’s role and the replay nature of the channel clear in its titles, descriptions, and presentation, and review YouTube’s current channel monetization policies.
