Use an AI song generator for the first metal sketch, then shape the riffs, drums, vocals and mix in an editor. A reliable workflow is: define the subgenre and tuning in a prompt, generate several short candidates, keep the strongest riff section, replace weak sections, export stems where available, and finish the arrangement in your DAW. The directory entries do not confirm that any listed service has a dedicated metal model, so treat “metal” prompts as experiments and check each vendor’s current genre support before committing to a project.
What A Metal Prompt Must Specify
Metal depends on details that a broad “heavy song” request can miss. Write the musical brief before opening a tool.
- Subgenre and mood: for example, modern metalcore, thrash, doom, or progressive metal; add “tense,” “bleak,” or another emotional target.
- Riff language: palm-muted low-string chugs, syncopated accents, tremolo-picked passages, or a slower half-time breakdown.
- Drums: double-kick drive, tight snare hits, tom fills and a clear transition into the breakdown.
- Harmony and form: a minor-key center, dissonant intervals, an intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge and final breakdown.
- Vocals: state whether you want harsh vocals, clean singing, a contrast between the two, or an instrumental track. Do not request an imitation of a named singer.
- Production target: separated instruments, a dry or spacious guitar sound, and a tempo range. Ask for a rough demo if you plan to re-record parts.
Pick The Right Starting Tool
These tools cover different parts of the workflow. Their entries do not establish dedicated metal training, so confirm the result and current terms yourself.

Step 1: Write A Metal Brief
- Choose one subgenre and one emotional arc. Example: “modern metalcore, ominous verse, defiant chorus, catastrophic final breakdown.”
- Set a tempo range and tuning concept, such as “around 150 BPM, low-tuned guitar feel.” Tuning support is not stated for these products, so verify the audio by ear.
- Describe the arrangement in sections and give each section a job: “four-bar feedback intro; verse with palm-muted syncopation; wide chorus; half-time breakdown; short final tag.”
- Specify vocals separately: “harsh verse delivery, clean melodic chorus, no celebrity imitation.” For an instrumental, write “no vocals.”
Step 2: Generate Several Riff Candidates
Start with Suno, Eleven Music or Udio when you need a complete vocal sketch. Use Beat Shaper or Soundverse AI Beat Maker when the riff and rhythm need editable MIDI or stems. In Mureka, a reference-audio workflow can guide the shape; only upload audio you have permission to use.

- Paste the same brief into three to five generations so you can compare the riff rather than changing every variable at once.
- Label each result by tempo, subgenre and version. Keep the best 8–16 bars, even if the rest of the song is weak.
- Reject parts with blurred kick-and-guitar attacks, an indistinct breakdown, or lyrics that fight the meter. Metal depends on a readable rhythmic grid.
Step 3: Build The Arrangement Around The Strongest Riff
- Place the chosen riff in the opening and return it with a changed ending in the final section.
- Ask the generator for a contrasting chorus or bridge instead of extending one loop unchanged. Suno, Eleven Music, Udio and Mureka list extension or section-editing functions; use the exact control names available in your account.
- Use Beat Shaper’s piano-roll controls for syncopation, or Soundverse’s MIDI and multitrack workflow, to tighten kick patterns against the guitar rhythm.
- For an instrumental documentary cue, Loudly can remix uploaded audio and export separated stems; its free generated tracks remain limited to 30 seconds, so check the plan before building a full cue.
Step 4: Refine Vocals And Lyrics
Write lyrics that leave space for consonants on the snare and sustained vowels in the chorus. Generate alternate deliveries rather than asking for a louder master: one harsh take, one clean take and one restrained take. Suno lists lyric editing and section replacement; Eleven Music lists AI vocals, lyrics, inpainting and section editing; Udio lists lyric editing and voice-reference blending; Mureka lists vocal generation and voice cloning. Voice references and cloned voices require the speaker’s consent, and you must follow each service’s terms.
Step 5: Export Parts For Your DAW
- Choose stems or MIDI when the tool offers them. Suno, Eleven Music, Soundverse AI Beat Maker and Mureka list stem-related exports; Beat Shaper lists MIDI, WAV, MP3, stem and DAW-project options.
- Keep the generated file as a guide track, then record or program replacement guitars, bass and drums where timing or tone is not usable.
- Print a rough mix with headroom before adding mastering. Loudly lists mastering and effects, but the entry does not establish a metal-specific mastering chain.
- Back up the prompt, generation date, source audio permissions and downloaded files with the project.
Rights Checks Before Publishing
- Do not assume a free tier is commercial. Suno’s Free Plan excludes commercial rights; Eleven Music’s Free plan is personal use; Beat Shaper Starter is non-commercial; Soundverse lists commercial licenses under Creator & Pro; Loudly says paid licensing depends on plan; Mureka’s entry does not state a general policy.
- For a documentary, check whether the license covers film and television. Eleven Music’s listed commercial rights exclude film, TV and studio games.
- Use only lyrics, reference recordings, samples and voices you are authorized to use. Consent is required for a person’s voice when using voice references or cloning.
- Udio currently lists audio, video and stem downloads as disabled during its transition period, so confirm that you can obtain the deliverable before starting a deadline-driven edit.

After generation, change one variable at a time: tempo, breakdown length, vocal presence, guitar density or drum syncopation. That makes it clear which instruction improved the metal result.
