For recurring instructor-led restorative yoga classes, schedule a separate YouTube Live event for each session, test the camera view and spoken audio, and start the encoder early enough to check the preview and stream health. A webcam is sufficient if it captures the full class clearly; use an encoder when you need external camera or microphone connections. If by “continuous” you mean an unattended, prerecorded 24/7 channel, that is a different setup with added hosting, monitoring, rights, and replay considerations.
Choose what “continuous” means for your class
A recurring live class and a nonstop prerecorded stream are not the same format. In a scheduled class, you teach at a set time and create a separate event for each session. A 24/7 stream instead plays prerecorded video continuously; it does not show you teaching live. YouTube’s listing of a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded streams shows that this category exists, but it is not blanket approval of every unattended loop.

Check that your channel can go live
YouTube’s general eligibility guidance says the channel must have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16 years old. Follow YouTube’s verification and live-access prompts in YouTube Studio. If this is your first time enabling live streaming, YouTube’s encoder instructions say activation can take up to 24 hours, so check access well before class day.
Choose a webcam or an encoder
YouTube supports a simple webcam broadcast as well as encoder-based streaming. Its live-streaming tips say you do not need expensive equipment; start with what you have and add gear only if a test reveals a problem.

For restorative yoga, check the actual frame rather than judging it from a standing pose alone. Confirm that you and any props remain visible during floor poses and transitions. A stable phone mount or tripod can help with framing, but neither is a YouTube requirement. An external microphone is worthwhile only if the built-in mic does not capture your spoken cues clearly at the tested distance. A reliable wired network connection is a sensible preference where available.
Schedule and prepare a class in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room in YouTube Studio. Schedule the event, set its audience and privacy options, and use the resulting watch-page URL to share the class. Viewers can set a reminder for a scheduled event.
- Connect your encoder if you are using one. Enter YouTube’s stream URL and stream key in the encoder. Treat the key like a password; regenerate it if you think it has been exposed. Use RTMPS when your encoder supports it.
- Choose output settings your connection can sustain. Set the resolution and bitrate for the stream you intend to deliver, and use YouTube’s current stream-setting guidance for supported settings. YouTube recommends keeping upload bandwidth about 20% above the total outgoing stream bitrate. Measure upload capacity, not just download speed, and account for other devices or activity using the same connection.
- Run an unlisted rehearsal. Use the same camera position, lighting, representative movement, spoken cues, and audio setup you plan to use in class. Check the YouTube preview on a phone as well as the instructor’s monitor. Include music only if its rights are cleared for the intended use.
- Start early and monitor. YouTube’s live-stream tips advise setting up an encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Inspect the preview and stream health before class begins, and keep monitoring while you teach.
- End the broadcast deliberately. Stop the encoder after ending the event. If a replay matters, check that the archive is available after the event and keep a local recording as a backup.
Clear music and other third-party material
Use original music, silence, or material whose rights explicitly cover both the livestream and any archive you plan to keep. “Royalty-free” or permission for ordinary video use does not, by itself, establish permission for a live broadcast and replay. Verify the license scope with the rights holder; this is practical guidance, not legal advice.

YouTube says it scans live streams for third-party content. A match can trigger a warning, a placeholder, interruption, or termination. Even with a license, the rights holder may need to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s livestream terms require creators to have the necessary rights, including music rights.
Plan for the replay limit
YouTube automatically archives live streams under 12 hours. A longer continuous broadcast may not be captured as a complete archive, so do not promise viewers a full YouTube replay for it. If keeping the class is important, make and retain a local recording as well.

Troubleshoot before and during the class
- Live access is unavailable: Check the channel’s live eligibility and verification prompts in YouTube Studio. If access was only just enabled, allow for YouTube’s stated activation time of up to 24 hours.
- The picture or audio drops, or the stream health is poor: Check upload speed and network stability, reduce the outgoing bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it, and leave the recommended 20% bandwidth headroom. Rehearse again at the revised settings.
- You are cut off in floor poses or transitions: Reposition the camera, then test the full range of movement and props from the final framing before going live.
- Spoken cues are hard to hear: Test from the camera’s actual distance and review the preview on another device. Adjust placement or use an external microphone if the built-in mic remains unclear.
- A music warning appears or the stream is interrupted: Stop using the disputed material unless you have rights for this exact use. Contact the rights holder about the license and any required Content ID allowlisting before trying again.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: Check the event archive in YouTube Studio. Streams lasting 12 hours or more may not be automatically captured as a complete archive; use a local recording for a dependable copy.
