If OBS crashes, YouTube stops receiving new audio and video from that encoder. OBS’s automatic reconnect can recover from a temporary connection interruption, but it does not relaunch the OBS application after a crash. Restart OBS, reconnect it to the correct YouTube event, and verify the feed in Live Control Room. What happens to a YouTube live stream when OBS crashes?
OBS encodes and sends a live feed to YouTube. When the OBS process closes unexpectedly, it cannot keep sending that feed; YouTube may show the stream as interrupted or end the event depending on its settings and state. OBS’s automatic reconnect is designed for connection interruptions, not for restarting a crashed application. YouTube’s encoder setup uses a server URL and stream key to connect an encoder to a live event. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the connection options; OBS describes reconnect under its overview and settings documentation.
A restart can restore the feed, but it cannot guarantee gap-free viewing. A local recording can preserve a copy of the program, not keep the YouTube broadcast alive while OBS is down.
Prepare the playlist and YouTube event before going live
Check that the channel can livestream
YouTube’s live-streaming start guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days, and meet a minimum age of 16 for live streaming. Requirements and interface details can change, so check the current Live Control Room before scheduling a broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Create or schedule the event and protect its key

In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the live event.

Open the event’s stream settings and note the selected stream key and server information you will configure in OBS. YouTube describes the key as the encoder’s password and address; keep it private. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to the event.

If you reuse a previous stream, check the copied settings. YouTube says stream settings, including the key and auto-start/auto-stop selections, are copied when a stream is reused. If you reset a key, update the corresponding encoder configuration before streaming again. See Manage live stream settings and YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting.
Connect OBS to YouTube
In OBS, select YouTube as the service if it is available in the streaming settings. Otherwise, use the server URL and stream key shown for the event. YouTube documents both connection approaches in its encoder setup instructions. Confirm the intended event and key before starting; do not expose the key in a recording, screenshot, or public stream.

Add the Hindi podcast playlist

Install VLC. In OBS, add a VLC Video Source to the scene and select the files for the podcast playlist. OBS’s media-source documentation says VLC is required for this source; if using 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.

In the VLC source properties, arrange the episodes in the intended order and set Loop Playlist to on if you want playback to restart after the last item. Decide deliberately whether shuffle should be on or off, so episodes do not play in an unintended order.

For one local audio or video file rather than a playlist, add an OBS Media Source and enable Loop.

Make sure the active scene includes the media source and that its audio is reaching the OBS mixer. Preview the scene and listen for playback before going live. The settings and source behavior are documented in OBS Media Sources and OBS’s Sources Guide.

Set reconnect, but do not mistake it for crash recovery
In OBS, open Settings → Advanced and configure the automatic reconnect options for interruptions. The exact labels may vary by OBS version. This can help when OBS remains running but loses its connection; it does not start OBS again if the application crashes. OBS lists --startstreaming among its launch parameters, but that parameter alone is not a complete watchdog or a guarantee of recovery. Any separate restart automation must be configured and tested on the actual computer and event, including whether it restores the correct profile, scene collection, and stream settings. Test the broadcast and recording safeguards

Start a private or unlisted test event and confirm the encoder preview in Live Control Room and playback on the event’s watch page.

Check stream health and available upload capacity. YouTube’s guidance says total streaming bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends 20% upload headroom. That is an operational recommendation, not a measured guarantee. See YouTube’s network and bitrate guidance.

If using a local recording, select its save location and verify during the test that the archive file exists and is growing. YouTube recommends checking the local archive and testing backup failover before a real broadcast. A separate drive may provide storage space, but it does not prevent an OBS crash or maintain the live feed. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

If you rely on a backup encoder or failover arrangement, test it explicitly with the scheduled event rather than assuming it will take over.
Recover the stream after OBS crashes

Relaunch OBS. If a separately configured restart mechanism is in use, confirm it opened the intended OBS profile and scene collection and did not create an unintended second instance.

Check the event and connection. Confirm the correct YouTube event, service or server URL, and stream key are selected. If the key was reset, update OBS to match the event’s current key before proceeding.

Start streaming again. Use OBS’s Start Streaming control or a previously tested launch workflow. Check for the encoder preview in Live Control Room, then verify that the event’s watch page plays both audio and video.

Check stream health and connectivity if viewers still cannot watch. A healthy-looking OBS window does not prove that viewers are receiving the feed. Check outbound upload and YouTube’s encoder dashboard; YouTube troubleshooting distinguishes encoder health from internet connectivity.

Inspect the local recording. Confirm whether the archive continued, stopped, or was damaged by the crash. Recovery may leave a gap in the live program; do not assume the interruption was invisible to viewers.

The approaches differ in the failure they cover and in how much operator or host-level setup they require. Check that a restart or backup uses the intended scheduled event and key; a local archive is a separate safeguard rather than a continuity method.
Confirm rights to every playlist item
Being able to loop files in OBS does not grant permission to rebroadcast them. Before streaming, confirm that you have rights to the Hindi podcast episodes and any music, artwork, or other material included in them. Technical setup guidance cannot determine whether a particular recording is licensed for a public live rebroadcast.
