To run recorded SSC lessons as a 24/7 YouTube livestream, send the videos to YouTube Live through an encoder or streaming service; uploading lessons or making a YouTube playlist alone does not create a live broadcast. First confirm the channel can go live and that you have rights to every lesson and included asset. Then connect the stream, check the preview and plan around YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold.
Before you start: channel eligibility and rights
Confirm the channel can livestream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable and test livestreaming before the planned launch. Do not try to bypass an active restriction by streaming through another channel; YouTube prohibits that while the restriction remains active. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming help.
Clear every part of each lesson
Get permission to livestream every recording and its contents: teacher or student appearances, slides, book excerpts, music, graphics, and any third-party video or audio. Confirm that permission covers the places where viewers may watch and any later on-demand archive you intend to keep. Calling a lesson educational does not itself establish permission to rebroadcast it.
YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match may result in a placeholder, a warning, or interruption or termination if the material remains. A licence does not guarantee that the stream will continue: YouTube says a live stream can still be interrupted if the channel has not been added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. Ask the rights holder to allowlist your channel where needed, and review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Choose how to send recorded lessons to YouTube Live
An encoder turns video into a format that can be sent as a live feed. The main choice is whether the feed runs on equipment you operate locally, in a hosted cloud service, or on a dedicated hardware encoder. YouTube’s encoder directory lists OBS as free, open-source software; Gyre as a cloud service for 24/7 prerecorded streams; and AJA HELO Plus, whose PlayToStream feature schedules prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. These listings establish the available categories, not comparative reliability or current pricing.
| Route | Local computer needed? | Scheduling or looping | Failure response and archives | Cost and access considerations |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Computer with encoder software such as OBS | Yes. The computer, encoder and internet connection must remain available while sending the feed. | Arrange the lesson files and playback or playlist workflow in the encoder. Confirm how the chosen setup repeats or advances through recordings. | You or someone you assign must watch the stream and restart it if the encoder or connection fails. Plan session lengths around YouTube’s under-12-hour automatic archive rule. | OBS is listed by YouTube as free and open source. Protect the stream key on the local machine and in any configuration files. |
| Hosted cloud service, including StreamNeo | No local computer needs to stay on for the cloud feed. | StreamNeo loops uploaded videos and playlists for a YouTube stream. YouTube’s directory also lists Gyre for cloud-based 24/7 prerecorded streaming. | Check the service’s controls and recovery behavior before relying on it; responsibilities and capabilities differ by provider. The YouTube archive limit still applies. | Compare each provider’s current price, support, storage and key-handling terms directly. Do not assume a cloud service guarantees uninterrupted operation. |
| Dedicated encoder such as AJA HELO Plus | YouTube says PlayToStream can schedule prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. | Its listed PlayToStream feature supports scheduled prerecorded media. | Confirm the device’s operating and recovery workflow and plan for YouTube’s archive boundary. | YouTube’s directory identifies the product, but a current price is not established here. Review device documentation and support terms before purchase. |
For a home setup where you can keep equipment running and respond to faults, a computer encoder is a direct route. A hosted service avoids keeping a computer at home, while a hardware encoder is a dedicated option for scheduled playback. In all cases, retain the original lesson files separately and decide who is responsible for monitoring.

Create the live event and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio. Choose Create → Go Live to enter Live Control Room. Create a new stream or schedule it for a future time.
- Set the event details. Add an accurate title and description, choose visibility, and set the schedule if applicable. Select the audience setting honestly; do not choose a setting to unlock features.
- Get the connection details. In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key. If your encoder offers YouTube sign-in or a YouTube preset, use its prompts; otherwise enter the copied server URL and key in the encoder’s streaming settings.
- Keep the key private. Treat the stream key like a password. Do not put it in a public playlist, screenshot, or message. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder before the next broadcast.
- Start sending the feed. Start the encoder or hosted stream. Wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room and inspect picture and sound. For a scheduled workflow, sending the encoder feed and selecting Go Live are separate actions; select Go Live when the preview and event are ready.
YouTube’s encoder guide explains the role of an encoder and the connection workflow: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. The YouTube-published production guide also stresses that the encoder’s stream key must match the one for the event.
Prepare and test the SSC lesson feed
Before making the broadcast public, run a private or unlisted test with the actual lesson files and intended sequence. A test is a quality check, not proof of uninterrupted service. Check:

Do not treat a 24-hour feed as a guaranteed 24-hour archive
YouTube’s encoder documentation says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That rule does not establish that one continuous 24-hour broadcast will be preserved as a single archive. If the replay matters, schedule sessions under 12 hours and plan how the encoder or service will stop and restart between sessions. Keep the original lesson files so you can upload them separately if needed. An archived stream may also receive a Content ID claim after it ends.

Set the audience and features for the actual content
Choose the made-for-kids setting based on the intended audience and applicable rules, not on whether you want chat or advertising features. YouTube says that a made-for-kids designation disables live chat and live chat replay and disables personalized ads on streams and Premieres. Horizontal and vertical live formats can have different discovery and feature behavior; check YouTube’s current Help information before selecting a format or promising viewers a particular feature.
Livestream monetization is available to channels in the YouTube Partner Program, subject to eligibility and platform rules. Continuous uptime by itself does not establish audience size, monetization eligibility, or revenue.

Common problems and what to check
- No preview appears: Check that the encoder is running, the event is the intended one, and the server URL and stream key were copied correctly. YouTube’s production guide notes that the key must match.
- The feed will not start: Confirm the channel is eligible to livestream, first-time activation has completed, and no restriction is active. Check the encoder’s connection status and event selection.
- YouTube interrupts the stream: Review any copyright notice and identify the matched material. Stop using it unless you have the needed rights and have resolved any allowlisting requirement with the rights holder.
- Video or audio is wrong: Inspect the encoder’s selected source and the lesson file, then check the Live Control Room preview before continuing. Test the exact playback order and sound levels privately before the next public session.
- The expected replay is missing or incomplete: Check whether the stream lasted 12 hours or longer. Retain and upload the original files separately rather than treating a continuous broadcast as a dependable archive.
- The key may have been exposed: Reset it in YouTube Studio and replace the value in the encoder or service. Do not share the new key publicly.
