Use YouTube’s Live Redirect feature: in YouTube Studio, open the source stream’s settings, choose a Premiere or eligible livestream as the destination, and end the source stream to trigger the handoff. The sender needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes; a different channel must also allow your channel to redirect viewers to its content.
Check eligibility and destination permissions first
- Sending channel: YouTube Help states that a channel must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes to send Live Redirects.
- Receiving channel: If you are redirecting to another channel’s livestream, that channel must permit your channel to redirect viewers to its content. Channels of any size may receive redirects, according to YouTube’s TeamYouTube announcement.
- Destination: YouTube documents a Premiere or another channel’s livestream as possible destinations. The destination must be available and eligible in the selector.
- Broadcast format: YouTube’s live-stream feature comparison lists Live Redirect as available for horizontal live streams, but not vertical live feeds.
The recipient channel controls who may redirect viewers to it. In YouTube Studio, it can allow channels it subscribes to, allow all channels, or approve channels individually. YouTube says the subscribed-channel setting is the default unless the recipient’s subscriptions are private. A manual allowlist can include up to 100 channels. The all-channels option cannot be combined with the subscribed-channel or manual-list settings.
Set up Live Redirect in YouTube Studio
- Prepare the destination. For a Premiere, schedule it before the source livestream. For another creator’s livestream, ask the recipient to allow your channel to redirect to its content, then make sure the broadcast is available when you plan to hand viewers over.
- Open the source stream. In YouTube Studio, go to Content > Live and select the livestream that will send viewers onward.
- Choose the destination. Select Edit > Customization > Redirect > Add. Select a Premiere or search for an eligible livestream from another channel.
- Save the selection and finish configuring the source livestream.
- End the source stream when you are ready to hand off viewers. YouTube displays a confirmation that viewers will be redirected. Confirm to end the stream and initiate the transition.
What viewers experience during the handoff
Live Redirect is an end-of-stream handoff, not an immediate switch while the source broadcast is still running. YouTube describes autoplay moving viewers to the selected Premiere or livestream after the source ends. Viewers who have autoplay turned off may need to click play, so the handoff is not guaranteed to happen without viewer action.
Tell viewers in advance where they are going and ask them to wait a few seconds after the source stream ends while their screens reload. For a Premiere, YouTube recommends using a pinned message in the Premiere’s live chat to point viewers to the event.

Choose between your Premiere and another channel’s livestream

The documented destinations are YouTube Premieres and eligible YouTube livestreams. The cited YouTube instructions do not document redirecting viewers to an arbitrary URL or handing them off to a non-YouTube platform.
Troubleshooting: when the destination or handoff does not work
- The sender cannot configure a redirect: Check that the sending channel meets YouTube’s stated threshold of more than 1,000 subscribers and has no Community Guidelines strikes.
- The other channel’s livestream does not appear: Ask that channel to review its redirect permissions in YouTube Studio. It may need to allow your channel, allow channels it subscribes to, or enable the all-channels option.
- The recipient cannot add your channel manually: The manual list supports up to 100 channels. The recipient can review its list or choose a different permission setting; the all-channels option cannot be combined with the manual list or subscribed-channel setting.
- Viewers remain on the source stream or do not start the destination: The redirect occurs when the source ends, and viewers with autoplay disabled may need to press play. Remind viewers to wait briefly for the screen to reload and provide the destination details in chat or verbally before ending.
- You are streaming vertically: YouTube’s feature comparison says Live Redirect is unavailable for vertical live feeds. Use a horizontal live stream if the redirect is essential.
