Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYou can’t make a Google Drive folder itself broadcast continuously to YouTube. Instead, retrieve the videos you’re authorized to use, put them in a playlist, and send that playlist through a continuously running encoder to YouTube Live. The encoder can run on a computer you keep online or, for uploaded videos, in a cloud service such as StreamNeo. Either way, plan for monitoring and recovery: a 24/7 stream depends on every part of the playback and delivery chain continuing to work.
How the Drive-to-YouTube setup works
Google Drive stores and serves files; YouTube Live receives an encoded live feed. The bridge between them is a playback process and encoder: it obtains the video files, plays them in the intended order, and sends the resulting feed to YouTube. YouTube’s documented live-streaming route includes an encoder, not a Drive-folder URL that automatically plays its contents forever.
For an automated Drive API workflow, the process needs authorized access to list files and download their binary contents. A file’s sharing or download permissions can prevent retrieval. The files must also be playable by the chosen playback software; the official platform guidance does not establish that every format in an arbitrary folder will work with every encoder.
Check YouTube channel readiness first
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take time, so check channel readiness before building the workflow or announcing a launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.

Choose where the playlist and encoder will run
Local computer
A local setup gives you direct control over file access and playlist behavior, but the computer, network connection, playback process, and encoder need to remain available. You are responsible for restarting or recovering the process after interruptions and for monitoring whether the stream is still healthy. A dedicated computer or mini PC is optional workflow hardware, not a YouTube requirement.
Cloud service
A cloud service can reduce dependence on a computer and home connection staying on. Before choosing one, confirm that it can access the content you want to use, loop or schedule a playlist, publish to YouTube Live, and recover from failures. Drive access is a distinct requirement: do not assume that a service can read a private Drive folder just because it accepts video uploads. The cloud option described below plays videos you upload to it; it does not import a Drive folder automatically.

Prepare and retrieve the Drive videos
For a manual workflow
- Check permissions. Make sure you can access and download each video. If a file is shared with you, its owner’s settings may restrict downloading.
- Download the files. Save the videos to storage the playback process can reach. Keep a copy available there rather than making continuous playback depend on a fresh Drive download for each item.
- Confirm playback. Open each file in the software you intend to use and check video, audio, and duration before adding it to the continuous playlist.
For an automated Drive API workflow
- List the folder’s files. Use the Drive API’s files.list method and the relevant folder query. Follow pagination so that a large folder is not silently cut off. Google documents file and folder search syntax in Search for files and folders.
- Retain file IDs and metadata. Use the returned file identifiers and metadata to track which videos are available and how you will order them.
- Download binary video content. For downloadable binary files, the Drive API documents the
alt=mediadownload method. Drive-native documents have different export behavior and are not ordinary video files. Follow Google’s download and export guidance. - Handle access failures. Check authorization and each file’s download permissions. If a file cannot be retrieved, exclude it or resolve access before relying on it in a live playlist.
Build a playlist that can repeat safely
Choose a deliberate order and confirm that repeat or loop behavior is enabled in the playback software. Test the transition from the last item back to the first, including whether the audio cuts out or leaves a gap. Keep the playlist’s video files available to the playback process so a temporary Drive access problem does not immediately leave it without content. This local-copy approach is an operational safeguard, not a YouTube requirement.
Use only content you have the rights to stream. A folder being accessible in Drive does not grant permission to rebroadcast its videos, music, or other included material. Review YouTube’s live-streaming guidance and check any relevant licences before broadcasting; a live stream can still be interrupted or restricted over rights issues. YouTube’s live-streaming tips include preparation and monitoring guidance.

Create the YouTube live event and configure the encoder
- Open YouTube Live Control Room. Create or schedule the live event and obtain its ingestion details. Follow the event setup and encoder steps in YouTube’s live-streaming guide.
- Protect the stream key. Copy the event’s stream key into the encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Treat it like a password: do not publish it or put it in a shared playlist or public document. If it is exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube’s controls.
- Prefer RTMPS. YouTube says, “We recommend streaming to YouTube Live with RTMPS, a secure extension to the popular RTMP streaming video protocol.” Configure the encoder to use the secure protocol when available.
- Choose a sustainable resolution and bitrate. Set output to a resolution and frame rate your connection can sustain continuously, not merely during a brief speed test. YouTube’s H.264 recommendations include 4 Mbps for 240p–720p at 30 fps, 6 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps, 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are encoder ingest recommendations, not a guarantee of the quality viewers will receive; leave capacity for normal network variation.
- Use compatible encoding settings. YouTube lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 for video and AAC or MP3 for audio. Use constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. Its guidance supports frame rates up to 60 fps. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate recommendations for its full resolution- and codec-specific figures.
Test the stream and monitor it continuously
Before relying on a 24/7 broadcast, test the complete route: playlist playback, encoder output, YouTube preview, and the live event. YouTube advises testing and checking stream health in Live Control Room. For continuous operation, add checks for playlist transitions, audio continuity, file availability, computer and network health, and alerts when the encoder stops. YouTube’s checklist is event-oriented; round-the-clock alerting is an additional operational responsibility, not a built-in uptime guarantee.
Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube will not let the channel go live: check channel verification and whether the channel has had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. Allow for first-time activation time.
- A Drive video is missing from the playlist: confirm the account is authorized, the file is listed by the folder query, pagination is handled, and downloading is permitted. Check that the item is a video file rather than a Drive-native document requiring export.
- The encoder cannot play a file: test the file in the playback software before going live. The supported formats for YouTube ingestion do not by themselves prove that the playback software can decode every source file.
- The feed disconnects or buffers: check sustained upload capacity and network stability, reduce resolution or bitrate if needed, and confirm the encoder is using the intended ingestion settings. Monitor the health indication in Live Control Room.
- Video reaches YouTube but playback stalls at a transition: inspect playlist order and repeat settings, then test the last-to-first transition. Verify that the next file is locally or otherwise reliably available to the playback process.
- The stream stops after a computer or process interruption: restore the computer, network, playlist process, and encoder, then check the YouTube preview before resuming. A local design needs a restart and alerting plan; it does not recover merely because the playlist is in Drive.
- The live stream is restricted or interrupted over content: review the rights for every video and audio track, along with YouTube’s applicable rules. Drive access is not a streaming licence.
Or let it run in the cloud
For uploaded videos, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It does not automatically import a Google Drive folder, so retrieve the Drive videos you are authorized to use and upload them to StreamNeo first.
