You can share a story playlist privately by link, but YouTube does not document an unlisted playlist as a direct input for a 24/7 live broadcast. To keep stories playing as a live stream, create a YouTube live event and send it a continuous feed from streaming software or a compatible cloud service. Set the playlist, the live event, and any video archives to the visibility you intend: these settings are separate.
What “unlisted” means for a story stream
An unlisted playlist is not private access control. Anyone with its link can view it and reshare it, and unlisted videos can likewise be watched by people who have their links. YouTube says unlisted content generally does not appear in search or on a channel’s Videos tab; playlist and video visibility can affect where content appears. Do not treat an unlisted link as a password or a restriction to a trusted audience.
Most importantly, making a playlist unlisted does not automatically set the live event or its eventual archive to unlisted. Choose the visibility for each separately.
1. Prepare the playlist and story videos
- In YouTube Studio, open Content → Playlists and select the playlist.
- Open its details, set Visibility to Unlisted, and save.
- Check the visibility of each story video. If viewers need to watch a video from the playlist, its own privacy setting must allow that access.
- Copy the playlist link and share it only with the people you want to be able to find it. Anyone who gets the link can pass it on.
Changing the playlist setting does not turn its videos into a live broadcast. YouTube’s documented encoder workflow sends a live feed to a live event; it does not describe a playlist URL as a native 24/7 broadcast source.

2. Check that your channel can livestream
Before scheduling the stream, confirm eligibility in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s current getting-started guidance says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the user must be at least 16 years old. Eligibility and account controls can change, so check YouTube’s live-streaming requirements for the account you will use.
3. Create a YouTube live event and connect an encoder
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live to open Live Control Room. Create a stream or schedule one.
- Set the live event’s privacy independently from the playlist. Choose Unlisted if access should be by link, or another setting if that better suits the audience.
- Copy the YouTube Live server URL and stream key from the event’s stream settings.
- In your encoder, enter the server URL and stream key, then configure it to send the video and audio feed. YouTube’s encoder instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview before relying on the event.
The stream key is a credential: it tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. Keep it secret. If it is exposed, change or regenerate it in YouTube Studio rather than sharing it with viewers.

4. Keep the stories playing continuously
Run a local encoder
Use streaming software that can play your selected story files in sequence and send an uninterrupted feed to YouTube. The exact steps and settings depend on the software, operating system, video files, and encoder; the title alone does not establish a particular setup. The playback application, computer, and internet connection must all remain available. Plan how to detect a stopped or frozen feed and how playback will restart after a software, power, or connection failure.
Use a cloud service
A cloud service can host continuous playback and delivery without requiring your home computer to run. YouTube’s encoder documentation names Gyre as an example of a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streams of prerecorded videos, but that page does not establish whether it accepts an unlisted YouTube playlist directly. Before choosing any provider, verify that it supports your exact input, continuous operation, recovery behavior, recording and archive retrieval, regional availability, and current price.

5. Test the stream and plan for failures
- Preview before launch: Confirm that Live Control Room receives audio and video and that playback starts in the intended order.
- Check access: Open the watch page as a viewer and, if relevant, test it on a mobile device. Confirm that the event’s privacy setting matches your intended audience.
- Leave bandwidth headroom: YouTube advises that total streaming bitrate fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving headroom. Test the actual connection and encoder configuration rather than assuming the nominal internet plan is sufficient.
- Monitor continuity: Decide how you will notice a frozen image, silent audio, stalled playback, or a disconnected encoder, and how the stream will resume.
- Protect the key: Do not post the stream key publicly or include it in a public tutorial or screenshot.
- Keep a separate recording if needed: If every story must be preserved, arrange an independent recording and verify that the file is complete.

6. Set archive expectations for a 24/7 event
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that if a stream exceeds 12 hours it may not be captured at all. A single uninterrupted 24/7 event therefore should not be treated as a guaranteed full-day recording. Review the archive’s visibility after the event, and use an independent recording plan if a complete copy matters. See Archive live streams.

Only stream stories and audio you have the rights or permissions to use. Making a playlist or live event unlisted does not make copyrighted material authorized, nor does link-only access prevent rights enforcement. Review YouTube’s current copyright policies and the terms that apply to your content before running a continuous stream.
