How to Create a 24/7 YouTube Livestream from a Folder of Children’s Videos

A folder needs an encoder to become a continuous YouTube live feed. Learn the setup, the made-for-kids effects, bitrate and keyframe guidance, troubleshooting, and why a 24/7 stream needs a separate archive plan.

YouTube does not stream a folder from your computer by itself: you need an encoder to play the videos as one continuous feed and send that feed to a live event in YouTube Studio. Before starting, check the channel’s live-stream eligibility, confirm you have permission to stream every video and soundtrack, and plan a separate recording if you need an archive. The exact folder-looping controls depend on your encoder.

Choose how to keep the stream running

Workflow Best fit Main dependency
StreamNeo Recommended for a continuous prerecorded YouTube stream: it runs from the cloud, supports uploaded videos at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and the first day is free. Upload the videos and provide your YouTube stream key.
Local encoder Useful when you want to manage playback and local recording on your own computer. The computer, power, encoder, internet connection and any recovery process must remain available.

The steps below explain the local-encoder workflow. YouTube’s setup instructions establish how an encoder connects to a live event, but they do not establish a universal folder-watching or looping recipe. Check the current documentation for your chosen encoder before relying on it to play every file continuously.

Check channel eligibility, content rights and audience settings

Confirm the channel can go live

YouTube Help’s live-streaming requirements, accessed 3 October 2026, say the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The page also says streamers must be at least 16. If children appear in the live feed, consult YouTube’s separate rules for minors on camera; the age requirement for the person streaming does not by itself resolve those requirements.

Review every video and audio track

Make sure you own or have permission to livestream each video, image and soundtrack. Permission to possess a file is not necessarily permission to broadcast it. Copyright matches on live broadcasts or copyright strikes can interrupt a stream or restrict live-streaming access. YouTube cannot determine whether your particular files are licensed for your intended use.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Set the audience accurately

In the current Live Control Room, choose the audience setting that matches the content and its intended audience. Do not mark a stream made for kids merely because children appear in the videos, or mark it otherwise for that reason alone; consider the content and intended audience. YouTube’s audience-setting help says this setting cannot be made using Classic live streaming tools, so use the current Live Control Room.

For a stream designated made for kids, YouTube lists live chat, comments on archives and upcoming streams, and reminder notifications as disabled. Personalized ads are disabled, though contextual ads may appear. This is a feature change, not a blanket prohibition on livestreaming children’s content.

Prepare the folder and encoder playback

  1. Make a clean source folder. Put only the videos you intend to broadcast in it. Check that the files play correctly, have the intended order, and contain audio you have permission to stream.
  2. Load the files using your encoder’s supported playback or playlist feature. Configure the encoder to play the sources consecutively and repeat them if it supports looping. Directory monitoring, ordering, transitions and behavior when a file ends vary by encoder; verify these in that encoder’s current documentation rather than assuming a folder will automatically become a continuous playlist.
  3. Decide how you will record a backup. If an archive matters, configure a local recording in the encoder and choose a drive with enough free space for your intended encoding and retention period. Capacity depends on those choices, so there is no universal drive size to recommend.

Create the YouTube live event and connect the encoder

  1. Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or schedule the broadcast there, then set the title, visibility and audience as appropriate for your channel and content.
  2. Copy the event’s server or stream URL and stream key into the encoder. Enter them in its YouTube or custom RTMP/RTMPS streaming destination fields, as supported. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your event. Do not show it in a recording or share it publicly.
  3. Configure the outgoing video and audio. Use the encoder settings below as a starting point, then select the bitrate recommendation for your actual resolution and frame rate in YouTube’s current encoder settings table.
  4. Start the encoder output and wait for the YouTube preview. Inspect the picture, sound, orientation, playback order and audience setting. Start or confirm the event only after the preview is correct.

Set bitrate, keyframes and connection headroom

  • Protocol: YouTube recommends RTMPS.
  • Rate control: Use constant bitrate (CBR), as YouTube recommends.
  • Keyframes: Set a two-second interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
  • Video bitrate: YouTube’s H.264 table recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 frames per second. This is a recommended setting, not a guarantee of performance. For other resolutions and frame rates, use the matching row in YouTube’s current table rather than extrapolating from the 1080p30 figure.
  • Upload capacity: Choose a bitrate your connection can sustain continuously. YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; for example, a 10 Mbps stream needs at least 12 Mbps available for the stream plus that headroom. Other household or office traffic can use capacity too, so test under realistic conditions.

A higher resolution or frame rate generally calls for a higher setting in YouTube’s table and a more capable, stable upload connection. Prefer a profile the connection can sustain over a higher-quality setting that repeatedly drops frames or disconnects.

Test, go live and monitor the broadcast

  1. Run a private or otherwise suitable test event. Test with similar movement and audio to the material you plan to stream; a static screen can conceal problems that appear during busy scenes or louder audio.
  2. Check the preview and stream health. Confirm that video and sound are present, playback advances through the intended files and the connection is stable before relying on the stream.
  3. Check the local recording. Open the recording location and confirm the file is being created and continues to grow. Keep enough free storage for the planned recording period.
  4. Monitor during operation. Watch for encoder errors, network instability, playback stopping at a file boundary and the local recording stopping. YouTube cautions in its “Streaming tips” help page that a connectivity disruption can break a stream. A 24/7 setup therefore needs ongoing monitoring or a separately configured recovery plan.

Plan for YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit

YouTube Help’s “Archive live streams” page, accessed 3 October 2026, says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube also warns that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. A continuous 24/7 event should not be treated as its own reliable archive: keep a separate local recording if you need a copy. Shorter sessions may make automatic archiving more predictable under YouTube’s stated threshold, but the available guidance does not establish how ending and restarting affects a particular channel’s viewers.

Troubleshoot common failures

  • You cannot start the event: Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days. Confirm the streamer meets YouTube’s stated age requirement.
  • YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Recheck the server or stream URL and stream key in both YouTube Studio and the encoder. Confirm the encoder is sending output and that the key has not been exposed or changed.
  • The preview is blank or the stream drops: Check the encoder’s output status, network connection and stream health. Lower the bitrate to a profile the connection can sustain, retain the recommended bandwidth headroom, and test again.
  • Playback stops or skips a file: Check the encoder’s playlist order, supported file formats and end-of-file or repeat behavior. Folder playback is encoder-specific; do not assume an item will automatically restart or that newly added files will be picked up.
  • The YouTube archive is missing or incomplete: Check the event length against YouTube’s 12-hour guidance. A stream exceeding that duration may not be captured at all, so use the local recording as the dependable backup.
  • The live stream or access is interrupted by a copyright issue: Review the rights for the specific video and soundtrack, then resolve any claim or restriction through the relevant YouTube process. A file being available locally does not establish livestream rights.
