You can connect Spotify to Last.fm from Last.fm’s application settings. Once you authorize the connection, eligible Spotify listening is recorded as scrobbles and used to build Last.fm listening history, charts, and reports. The connection records listening going forward; it does not automatically import your old Spotify history.
What you need before connecting
- A Last.fm account and the Spotify account you want to track.
- A browser or device where you can sign in to both services and approve the connection.
- A decision about whether you already use another Spotify scrobbler. Two tools submitting the same play can create duplicates.
Last.fm describes its Spotify connection as supporting the desktop and mobile apps, web player, and Spotify-connected devices. That is the intended coverage, not a guarantee that every play will arrive immediately or without interruption. Last.fm’s Spotify tracking information has the current service details.
Connect Spotify to Last.fm
- Sign in to Last.fm.
- Open Last.fm’s Applications settings. If you navigate there manually, open your profile menu, choose Settings, then Applications.
- Find Spotify Scrobbling and select Connect.
- Sign in to Spotify if prompted, making sure it is the account you intend to track.
- Review and approve the authorization request, then return to Last.fm and check that Spotify is shown as connected.
- Play a track and check your recent listening on Last.fm after it has had time to qualify as a scrobble.
The connection normally starts from Last.fm, not Spotify’s usual settings. Spotify’s community FAQ also describes selecting Connect beside Spotify Scrobbling. Spotify Community connection instructions
Menu names and placement can change across account states and layouts. The direct settings link is the quickest route if you cannot find the menu.

Confirm that scrobbling works
- Choose a track several minutes long and let it play long enough to pass the normal scrobbling threshold.
- Open your Last.fm profile or library and look for the track in your recent scrobbles.
- Check that the artist and track title are correct; album information may also be available.
- If you listen on several kinds of devices, repeat the test on the phone, computer, browser, or Spotify Connect device you actually use.
A now playing indicator means Last.fm has detected current playback; it is not confirmation that a completed record has been added to your listening history. A scrobble is the saved listening record. Charts and reports are calculated from accumulated scrobbles, so they may not change as soon as a track starts.
What Last.fm records and how its statistics work
Last.fm calls a submitted listening record a scrobble. It uses scrobbles to build a personal history and produce artist, album, and track charts, period-based reports, and recommendations. Last.fm’s feature overview
For conventional clients using Last.fm’s scrobbling API, a track generally qualifies if it is longer than 30 seconds and has played for at least half its duration or four minutes, whichever comes first. Treat that as the standard API rule, not a guarantee of exactly how every part of the Spotify integration handles every play. Very short tracks, previews, and early skips may not become scrobbles. Last.fm API scrobbling rules
Once listening is recorded, use your profile for recent activity and summary information, your Library to browse artist, album, and track listening, and Reports for period-based summaries where available. Last.fm’s statistics reflect the scrobbles it receives and the metadata it matches—not a perfect copy of Spotify’s internal play-count records. Missed plays, incorrect matches, or duplicates can therefore affect the results.

Does Last.fm import old Spotify history?
No—not through the ordinary Spotify connection. It records eligible listening after you connect; it does not automatically backfill your prior Spotify activity into Last.fm’s reports. Last.fm says its reports are based on music scrobbled to your profile and that pre-existing streaming-provider statistics cannot be imported into those historical reports. Last.fm Pro features and report details
Spotify data exports and services that analyze an exported history are separate from Last.fm’s normal live scrobbling. For example, stats.fm documents importing Spotify’s Extended streaming history files for users with stats.fm Plus. That import is a separate analytics workflow, not a way to repair or populate Last.fm’s official history automatically. stats.fm Spotify import requirements
Fix Spotify plays that are missing
- Check the connection and account. Return to Applications settings. Confirm Spotify is connected and that you authorized the intended Spotify account. If the connection looks broken, disconnect it and connect again.
- Allow for a short delay. Refresh Last.fm and test a new track rather than assuming a brief delay means the connection has failed.
- Use a qualifying test play. Let a longer track play well beyond the opening seconds. A skipped or very short play may not meet the general scrobbling threshold.
- Check for overlapping scrobblers. Temporarily disable other tools that might submit Spotify listening, such as a device-level scrobbler, browser extension, or another music-tracking app. The direct connection and a second scrobbler can overlap.
- Test the listening environment. Try the Spotify app or web player on another device. Last.fm lists desktop, mobile, web player, and Spotify-connected devices as supported, but a working test on one device does not establish that every device or playback route is working.
- Inspect the saved metadata. Search Last.fm for the artist or track if it appears under an unexpected name, remix, album, or featured-artist credit.
- Revisit authorization if the problem persists. Reconnect the intended accounts and test again. If new plays still do not appear, use Last.fm’s support channels rather than repeatedly installing more scrobblers.
Spotify’s Private Session and listening-activity controls are social visibility settings. Spotify documents them as controls for what followers see; they are not, by themselves, proof that Last.fm scrobbling is disabled. Spotify privacy and social controls
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Prevent and clean up duplicate scrobbles
Use one Spotify scrobbling method at a time. Common overlapping paths include Last.fm’s direct Spotify connection, a mobile scrobbler such as Pano Scrobbler, and a browser extension such as Web Scrobbler. Community reports describe duplicates when direct Spotify scrobbling and another tool both submit the same play, so treat overlap as a troubleshooting possibility rather than assuming one particular tool is always responsible.

Review privacy and connected access
When you connect a music service for scrobbling, Last.fm may receive listening metadata such as song title, artist, album, and duration. Its privacy policy also describes technical and usage data collection. Review the permissions before authorizing, periodically check connected applications, and disconnect Spotify from Last.fm if you stop using the integration. Last.fm privacy policy
Spotify’s listening-activity controls govern visibility within Spotify, while Last.fm maintains its own listening history. Review both services’ privacy settings if you want to limit what is shared or retained.
