One video: use the server listener
Wowza documents ServerListenerStreamDemoPublisher for publishing a VOD file as a live stream. The file repeats until the listener is terminated. The setup can be made through Engine Manager or by editing Server.xml. Wowza describes this as a static configuration and points to Stream Publisher for a more dynamic solution; it is not a full playlist manager. Multiple videos: use Stream Publisher and SMIL
For a schedule or playlist, Stream Publisher reads an application-specific SMIL file from that application’s Stream Storage directory. The streamPublisherSmilFile property identifies the file. Each application using a schedule needs its own SMIL file. Wowza warns that scheduler SMIL has extra tags that Engine Manager’s SMIL editor cannot recognize, so create or edit the file in a text editor. Follow the applicable Engine-version instructions in Wowza’s Stream Publisher scheduling guide.
Build and loop the playlist
In the application’s SMIL file, define the stream and reference it from a playlist. Use these scheduler parameters to control source playback and repetition:

start="-2"starts a live source. For an on-demand source, usestart="0"or a positive offset.length="-1"plays to the end of the source. A positive value sets a playback limit in seconds.repeat="true"loops the playlist. Withrepeat="false", the stream shuts down after the playlist ends.- The scheduler’s
scheduledattribute sets the playlist start time. If a scheduled begin time is already past, playlists load in order and a later one can immediately replace the previous playlist.
Use current start times for your schedule rather than copying the historical dates shown in Wowza’s examples. Consult the Stream Publisher documentation for the SMIL structure and version-specific setup.
Send Wowza’s output to YouTube Live

In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the destination stream and obtain its stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s generic encoder workflow is described in Create a live stream with an encoder.

In the publishing or output configuration appropriate to your installed Wowza Streaming Engine version, enter the YouTube stream URL and key. YouTube’s instructions cover the encoder workflow but do not establish one universal Engine Manager click path for every Wowza release; use the documentation for your installed version.

Keep the stream key private: YouTube says it acts like a password. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the Wowza output with the replacement key. Details are in YouTube’s live stream settings guide.

Prefer RTMPS if your Wowza output workflow supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which is RTMP over TLS/SSL, and provides the RTMPS URL in stream settings. Support and configuration depend on the Engine version, so verify compatibility rather than assuming every deployment exposes the same controls. See YouTube’s RTMPS instructions.
Set encoder parameters and test before relying on the loop
Match Wowza’s outgoing video and audio settings to the stream you intend to publish. YouTube’s current guidance recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds, constant bitrate (CBR), and AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS. Its bitrate recommendations depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate; choose the applicable row in YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate table rather than applying a single bitrate to every stream. Ensure the available upstream capacity can sustain the selected output.

Start the Wowza publishing workflow and confirm that YouTube receives the feed.

Check stream health in Live Control Room and test with representative motion and audio before leaving the broadcast unattended. YouTube transcodes incoming live video into viewing formats, but that does not replace checking the incoming feed for problems.

Verify the loop behavior: for a single file, confirm the listener continues repeating; for a schedule, confirm the playlist repeats and that scheduled times are current.
Troubleshoot common setup failures
- YouTube receives no feed: Check that the Wowza output uses the selected YouTube stream’s URL and current key, then verify the correct publishing workflow for your Engine version.
- The key no longer works: If it was reset or exposed, retrieve the replacement from Live Control Room and update Wowza. Treat the key as a secret.
- A multi-item schedule will not load: Confirm the SMIL file is in the application’s Stream Storage directory, that
streamPublisherSmilFilepoints to it, and that the application has its own file. Edit scheduler SMIL in a text editor, not Engine Manager’s SMIL editor. - The playlist stops after one pass: Check that the playlist uses
repeat="true";repeat="false"shuts down the stream when that playlist ends. - A scheduled playlist replaces another immediately: Check whether its
scheduledbegin time is already in the past. Past-due playlists load in order and can replace the prior playlist. - YouTube reports poor stream health: Compare codec, resolution, frame rate, keyframe interval, CBR, and audio settings with YouTube’s current encoder guidance, and confirm sufficient upstream capacity.
