To run OBS continuously on Airtel broadband, set YouTube’s recommended encoder parameters, then choose a bitrate your connection can sustain on upload—with roughly 20% bandwidth left over. There is no single Airtel-specific preset: actual upload performance, household traffic, and the computer-to-YouTube network path determine whether a stream stays stable.
What you need before configuring OBS
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube may require verification and activation before you can broadcast; check the channel’s access in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains how to create a stream.
- OBS Studio installed on the computer that will run the broadcast.
- The stream URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace the saved key in OBS.
- A reliable connection from the computer to the router, and sufficient sustained upload capacity for the selected video and audio bitrate.
YouTube supports RTMPS, an encrypted form of RTMP, where the encoder supports it. Use the server URL and protocol YouTube provides for the stream. See Manage live stream settings for stream settings and key details.
Configure YouTube and OBS
Create the YouTube encoder stream
- In YouTube Studio, select Go Live and create or schedule a stream using the encoder option.
- Open the stream’s Live Control Room details. Copy the stream URL and stream key; keep the key private.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select YouTube as the service if available, then enter the server and key shown in Live Control Room. If OBS offers a YouTube account connection and you use it, confirm the correct channel and stream are selected.
Choose output settings
For a standard SDR broadcast, start with H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), and a 2-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends a 2-second interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Its current encoder guidance permits frame rates up to 60 fps. Choose a resolution and frame rate that the content and your measured upload can sustain—not simply the highest setting available.
| Output | YouTube-recommended H.264 video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps |
These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not guaranteed Airtel upload speeds or a guarantee that a particular line can sustain the setting. Choose the resolution and frame rate for the material: a documentary with mostly static shots may not benefit as much from 60 fps as fast-motion footage. If the line varies or is shared, lower the resolution or bitrate rather than pushing the connection to its limit. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio and recommends 128 Kbps for stereo AAC/MP3 in its encoder guidance. For the full supported combinations, consult Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Set bitrate for your Airtel connection
Measure upload under realistic conditions
- Run an upload-speed test on the same computer and network arrangement you plan to stream from. Repeat at different times, including busy household periods.
- Account for other devices and services uploading at the same time. If the connection carries multiple outbound streams, include their combined demand.
- Leave capacity unused. YouTube recommends 20% upload bandwidth headroom; do not set OBS to consume the full speed shown by a single test.
- Test the chosen setting for a sustained period while similar household activity continues. A brief speed-test result is not proof of all-day stability.
Use measured upload, not download speed or an Airtel plan’s advertised headline, to select a bitrate. YouTube explains bandwidth headroom and recommends testing with movement and audio similar to the planned stream in Streaming tips.
What Airtel plan figures do—and do not—tell you
Airtel India’s broadband page advertises examples of up to 40 Mbps, 100 Mbps, 300 Mbps and 1024 Mbps, with prices and availability dependent on geography, plan and current offers. These are plan ceilings, not a stated guaranteed upload rate or uptime for a particular address. Check the current offer for your location and measure your own line. Prefer a stable local connection
Where practical, connect the streaming computer to the router by Ethernet rather than relying on Wi-Fi. A wired link can remove one variable between the computer and router, but it cannot prevent ISP outages, router faults, congestion, or competing upload traffic. OBS identifies the network path to the ingest server as a common source of dropped frames and disconnections; it does not establish that Airtel is at fault on any individual line. See OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting.
Test the stream before leaving it on
- In OBS, set the stream output and connect using the correct YouTube stream. Use a test or scheduled broadcast if you do not want the initial check to appear as an ordinary public event.
- Include representative motion and audio, then check the preview and stream-health messages in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Check OBS statistics for dropped frames and watch the public player from another device. Confirm that picture and sound continue and that the stream is reaching YouTube.
- Keep the test running long enough to expose fluctuations, and repeat under realistic household network use. Revisit bitrate and resolution if the connection cannot sustain them.
YouTube’s YouTube live streaming tips – Computer also covers pre-broadcast checks. For dropped frames or disconnections, investigate the computer-to-router link, router, competing traffic and ISP path before concluding OBS itself is the cause.

Plan for data use and YouTube archives
Check Airtel’s fair-use terms
A continuous stream uses data for as long as it runs. Airtel India’s published Xstream Fiber terms reviewed on October 3, 2026, state a 3333 GB threshold per billing cycle, after which speed is reduced; the terms also reserve the ability to amend the policy. This stated threshold is not proof that every Airtel product or market has identical treatment. Check the terms applicable to your plan and location at Xstream Fiber Terms and Conditions.
Estimate usage from the combined video and audio bitrate and the hours streamed, then compare it with the applicable monthly allowance. As a rough conversion, 1 Mbps sustained for 24 hours is about 10.8 GB before protocol overhead; actual usage varies with the encoded stream and network overhead. Multiply by your chosen total bitrate and planned days, then leave a margin and verify against your provider’s accounting.

Do not assume one 24-hour broadcast will be fully archived
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its published instructions do not promise a complete archive for one continuous 24-hour-or-longer broadcast. If retaining a complete recording matters, investigate a separate local recording and test disk capacity and storage reliability before relying on it. Archiving guidance is in YouTube’s encoder instructions.

| What you see | Likely area to investigate | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| OBS reports dropped frames or the stream disconnects | Unstable route to YouTube’s ingest server, or bitrate beyond sustained upload capacity | Check OBS statistics and YouTube stream health; reduce bitrate or resolution; test on Ethernet; pause competing uploads and inspect the router and ISP path. |
| Stream works at quiet times but falters when others use the connection | Shared upload capacity is insufficient for the stream plus other traffic | Retest during busy periods, reserve upload headroom, and reduce the OBS bitrate if needed. |
| YouTube does not receive the broadcast | Wrong stream key or server URL, stream not created or selected in Live Control Room, or live access not enabled | Confirm the active stream details in YouTube Studio and re-enter the matching URL and key under OBS Settings → Stream. If the key was exposed, reset it first. |
| Video appears unstable even though a speed test looked adequate | A short test does not reflect sustained upload, household competition, Wi-Fi variation or the route to YouTube | Run repeated tests on the actual streaming setup, observe OBS and YouTube health during a sustained test, and lower the target until it remains stable. |
| The broadcast stops, but the computer and OBS remain running | The stream connection to YouTube has dropped; the cause may lie anywhere along the network path | Check OBS and Live Control Room messages, restore the connection, and review local network and upload conditions. OBS’s troubleshooting guidance says dropped frames are extremely unlikely to be caused by OBS Studio itself. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a YouTube channel that keeps looping uploaded documentary videos, rather than a live camera or a live OBS production, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the uploaded video looping, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.
