To connect OBS Studio to YouTube Live, copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, enter them in OBS > Settings > Stream, then start the OBS feed and click Go live in YouTube Studio after its preview appears. The key is a credential, not a public link. Before broadcasting bhajans, kirtan, or other devotional music, make sure you have the rights to the exact recordings and performances you plan to use.
Before you configure OBS: check livestream access
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no livestreaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days to livestream. Its published guidance does not describe a separate India-specific requirement for using an OBS stream key. Check the channel’s access before troubleshooting OBS: YouTube live streaming tips.
Use a computer with OBS installed and a reliable internet connection. YouTube says creators can start with equipment they already have; a new microphone or other purchase is not required just to configure the key.
Get the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio
- Sign in to the YouTube channel that will host the broadcast.
- Open Create > Go Live in YouTube Studio.
- In Live Control Room, open the Stream tab. Create a stream or select an existing one. YouTube may load saved stream settings and a previously used key.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown there. Keep them private; do not show them in a screen capture or share them publicly.
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe this workflow. The stream URL and key are separate values: the URL identifies the server OBS sends to, while the key identifies the stream YouTube should accept.

Enter the key in OBS Studio
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream.
- If YouTube is available in the Service menu, select it and paste the copied key into the stream-key field.
- If YouTube is not available as a service, choose the custom-service option. Paste YouTube’s stream URL into the Server field and the key into the separate Stream Key field.
- Check that neither value has an extra space at the beginning or end, then select Apply and OK.
Do not put the key in the server field or the URL in the key field. YouTube recommends RTMPS for an encrypted connection between an encoder and YouTube; use the server address supplied for the stream and consult its RTMPS guidance if you need to check the connection protocol.
Set OBS video and audio for a stable devotional stream
For a conventional SDR stream over RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube’s encoder guidance includes H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), a recommended two-second keyframe interval, and AAC or MP3 audio. Match your resolution and frame rate to the program you are producing and the stable upload capacity available; use YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate table for the selected codec and resolution rather than applying one bitrate to every channel.

- Video: Use H.264 and CBR for the conventional SDR workflow described in YouTube’s guidance.
- Keyframes: Set the interval to two seconds, YouTube’s recommended interval.
- Audio: Use AAC or MP3 and verify the actual program audio in a test; a silent or clipped feed is not fixed by a correct stream key.
- Upload: Test upload speed, leave headroom instead of using the entire measured capacity, and account for other people or devices using the same connection.
For an Indian devotional music broadcast, test with representative sound and movement—not just a static scene—so you can check that both the music and any video or lyrics remain clear. YouTube also supports HLS for workflows requiring HLS-specific capabilities such as HDR or codecs unsupported by RTMP, but that changes setup and latency behavior; ordinary SDR encoder streaming generally does not need it. Start the OBS feed and go live in YouTube Studio
- In OBS, select Start Streaming.
- Return to the Live Control Room and wait for the incoming feed preview.
- Check the picture and sound in the preview and read the stream-health messages.
- When the preview is ready and the feed looks right, click Go live in YouTube Studio.
For a scheduled broadcast, test the full setup in advance; an unlisted test is useful when appropriate. YouTube recommends previewing before going live and monitoring stream health and audio/video quality. Its streaming tips also recommend testing under conditions like the real broadcast, including shared network use.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is a platform archiving limit, not a guarantee that every stream will be saved; check the Live Control Room and channel settings for your broadcast.
Protect the key and handle music rights separately
YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key as a credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to the associated stream. If it may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio under Go Live > Stream, then replace the old value in OBS with the new key. See Manage live stream settings.

A devotional subject does not automatically make a recording or performance free to livestream. A bhajan, kirtan, or other traditional composition may be presented in a particular recording, arrangement, or performance with rights that need to be checked. Confirm permissions for the exact sound recording, arrangement, performers, backing track, and planned use; the stream-key setup itself does not establish those rights. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance and encoder setup instructions tell creators to ensure their audio and video do not infringe others’ content, but do not determine rights for a particular repertoire or use in India.
