To run a church’s YouTube stream around the clock over BSNL, use a verified YouTube channel and an encoder, send the stream over RTMPS, and set its bitrate to fit the church’s measured upload speed—not its advertised download speed. Start with a conservative 720p30 test if the connection is uncertain. A 24-hour broadcast also needs a plan for outages and recordings: YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours, so do not count on one 24-hour session for a complete archive.
Check that the channel and BSNL line are ready
Confirm YouTube livestream eligibility
YouTube requires the channel to be verified and to have had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using the encoder workflow. Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. Check the actual upload capacity
Test the connection at the church, preferably at the times the stream will normally run. Measure upload speed and account for other church internet use; download speed does not establish how much capacity is available for sending video. BSNL availability, plan terms, fair-use thresholds and speeds after a cap vary by area and can change. Check the current plan for the church’s exact service area rather than extrapolating from a plan advertised elsewhere. Choose a resolution and bitrate that leave headroom
YouTube’s current H.264 encoder guidance recommends the following video bitrates. With the separate 20% headroom recommendation applied, the upload targets below are calculated planning examples—not measured BSNL speeds. Leave further room for other traffic and any backup stream.

These are video bitrate recommendations; the total outgoing bitrate also includes audio and any other encoded output. If the line cannot reliably support the chosen setting, lower the resolution or bitrate rather than running at the edge of capacity. Configure the encoder and test the stream
- Open the encoder’s stream settings. Enter the stream URL and key copied from YouTube Live Control Room. Keep the key private.
- Select the protocol and video settings. Prefer RTMPS when supported; YouTube recommends it because it encrypts the stream in transit. Use H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval as the documented baseline. Use the encoder’s current YouTube preset if available, then confirm its values rather than assuming every preset is identical. YouTube encoder guidance
- Set resolution, frame rate and bitrate. Start with 720p30 at YouTube’s recommended 4 Mbps video bitrate when upload stability is uncertain. Consider 1080p30 at 10 Mbps only after the church’s measured upload and a stream-health test support it with headroom.
- Run a representative test. Include the kind of audio and movement the broadcast will contain. Start the encoder, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, and inspect picture, sound and stream health before going live. YouTube recommends testing and checking local recording files. - Start the broadcast and monitor it. Confirm the stream is live in Live Control Room. For an operation that must continue unattended, arrange monitoring and a tested recovery or backup path; an encoder setting alone cannot prevent failures in power, equipment or broadband.
Plan for long sessions, archives and viewer controls
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not guarantee a complete archive for a single 24-hour session; if retaining a full record matters, schedule shorter sessions and keep a local recording. YouTube offers DVR controls that can let viewers pause and rewind when enabled. Lower latency is not automatically preferable for a mostly unattended church feed: YouTube notes that lower latency can mean more playback buffering. A 24/7 schedule requires an operating plan as well as a signal: decide who checks stream health, how the broadcast is restarted after a failure, and where local recordings are stored. YouTube’s guidance does not promise zero interruption, a specific BSNL uptime, or a complete archive for a session of 12 hours or longer.
Troubleshoot common stream problems
