Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →If YouTube removed your livestream and applied a copyright strike, the relevant route is usually a copyright counter notification—not a routine appeal. First confirm that a strike was applied, check whether the removal is already effective, and compare the exact material named in the notice with what your license actually permits. A license can support your position, but it does not automatically resolve a claim or prevent a live interruption.
First identify whether you have a claim or a strike
A Content ID claim and a copyright strike are different enforcement actions. A Content ID claim may be disputed through the claim-appeal process; a counter notification responds to a copyright takedown that has removed content and applied a strike. Check the removed video or active strike details in YouTube Studio and read the strike email. Note the claimant and the specific audio, video, or other material identified. YouTube Help explains the distinction in its copyright strike guidance and Content ID claim appeal guidance.
A livestream removed for copyright can result in a strike and a temporary restriction on livestreaming. YouTube Help, undated (accessed 2026), says the restriction is 7 days for a removed active livestream; another strike extends it to 14 days. YouTube also says a channel with 3 copyright strikes in 90 days is subject to termination. Treat the strike notice and Studio status as the starting point for your case, not an assumption that every copyright notice has the same effect.
Check whether the takedown is scheduled or complete
If YouTube has scheduled a removal, its notice may give you 7 days to take specified steps before the strike is applied. Follow the options and deadline shown in the notice. YouTube says a counter notification is available only after removal takes effect and the strike is applied; the scheduled-removal period is not the time to submit one. See YouTube’s scheduled removal guidance.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the strike is already active, deleting the video does not generally clear it. The distinction matters: the pre-removal window may let you avoid a strike by taking an available action in time, while a completed takedown requires a strike-resolution route.
Compare the license with the exact material and use
Do not rely on the phrase “I have a license” by itself. Put the strike notice beside the signed agreement, schedules, and any written permissions, then check whether the grant covers the material YouTube identified and how you used it.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Rights and work: Does the agreement cover the specific sound recording, composition, footage, or other work named in the notice? A recording and the underlying composition may involve different rights.
- Use and platform: Does it authorize livestreaming on YouTube, rather than only downloads, on-demand video, or another use?
- Live and archived use: Does permission cover the live broadcast and, if applicable, the saved replay or archive?
- Territory and term: Was the permission valid in the relevant territory and on the date of the stream?
- Conditions: Check restrictions on monetization, attribution, editing, duration, or other conditions that apply to your actual stream.
- Parties and proof: Confirm that the grant comes from a rights holder or authorized licensor and retain the signed agreement, schedules, and related written permissions.
The agreement’s actual terms and the material in this particular stream determine what it supports. Do not claim broader rights than the document grants. YouTube’s counter notification guidance describes the required legal process; it cannot establish the scope or authenticity of a private license.
Ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel
A license may settle permission between you and a rights owner without preventing YouTube’s live copyright systems from interrupting a stream. YouTube Help, in “Copyright issues with live streams,” advises: “If you’ve licensed third-party content to use in your stream, ask the owner of the content to add your channel to their allowlist through Content ID.” Contact the rights owner or authorized representative with your channel details and ask them to confirm the allowlisting. This operational step is separate from resolving an already-applied strike; pursue the appropriate strike route as well.

Choose a route to resolve the strike
YouTube lists three main paths: complete Copyright School and wait for the strike to expire, seek a retraction from the claimant, or submit a counter notification when you have a good-faith basis to say the removal resulted from a mistake or misidentification, which may include a copyright exception. These paths are not interchangeable with a Content ID claim appeal.
- Copyright School and wait: YouTube Help, undated (accessed 2026), says a strike can expire after 90 days if Copyright School is completed, subject to YouTube’s stated channel conditions.
- Request a retraction: Contact the claimant to ask whether they will retract the takedown. YouTube describes retraction as a route to resolve a strike; the claimant decides whether to grant the request.
- Counter notification: Consider this only if you can truthfully make the required statements and have a good-faith basis for disputing the removal. It is a legal request, not a standard support appeal, and YouTube forwards it to the claimant.
Review YouTube’s current copyright strike overview and counter notification instructions before deciding. If the license is ambiguous, the work is not clearly covered, or the consequences are significant, consider advice from a qualified Indian copyright lawyer before filing.

Submit a counter notification only with accurate information
For a copyright-removed video, YouTube’s Studio flow requests contact information, your rationale, agreement to required statements, and your full legal name as your signature. YouTube also lists an offline submission route by email, fax, or mail; that route requires your full legal name, physical address, telephone number, direct link to the content, explanation, legal statements, and signature. Use YouTube’s current form and follow its instructions rather than relying on an old template.
- Open the active copyright strike or removed video in YouTube Studio and select the counter-notification option if it is available.
- Identify the removed content and explain specifically why you believe the removal was a mistake or misidentification. If relying on a license, state only what the agreement supports and retain the relevant documents.
- Read the required statements carefully, provide the requested identifying details, and submit only if you can make the statements truthfully.
- Keep a copy of what you submit and monitor the email address and Studio notices associated with your channel.
YouTube says a counter notification is forwarded to the claimant, so your personal information is shared. YouTube warns that misuse or false information may lead to account termination or other legal consequences. A counter notification may be rejected if it is incomplete; filing one does not guarantee reinstatement.

What happens after you submit a counter notification?
If YouTube accepts and forwards a valid counter notification, the claimant has 10 US business days to provide evidence of legal action to keep the content down. If the claimant does not provide that evidence within the period, YouTube says the content may be reinstated and the strike may be cleared. That is a possible outcome, not a promise: the claimant may take legal action, and the result depends on the process and facts.
How Indian copyright exceptions fit
India’s Copyright Office lists statutory exceptions under the Copyright Act, 1957, including fair dealing. YouTube’s counter-notification guidance also recognizes fair dealing among possible grounds for disputing a removal. Whether an exception applies to a particular livestream depends on its facts; do not substitute a US “fair use” test for Indian law or assume that holding a license resolves every right involved. The relevant work, use, permissions, and circumstances need to be assessed in context. See the Copyright Office’s exceptions document and YouTube’s counter notification guidance.
Prevent the same interruption on a future stream
- Keep the signed license and any schedules or permissions accessible, and record which works and uses they cover.
- Before broadcasting, confirm that the permission covers YouTube livestreaming, the relevant territory and term, and any replay or monetized use you plan to make.
- Ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist when you have licensed third-party content for a stream.
- Review the live stream and replay for material beyond the licensed item, such as music or footage included in a documentary segment or background audio.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your channel uses licensed, pre-recorded programming for a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. This does not resolve copyright permissions or prevent a rights owner from making a claim; check your license and allowlisting separately.
