How to Compare Cloud YouTube Loop Services by Video Storage Retention

Storage capacity is not a retention period. Learn how to compare cloud YouTube loop services, studio recording quotas and YouTube’s archive rules without mixing them up.

There is no single “retention” number that fairly compares cloud YouTube loop services. Separate uploaded source videos kept by a loop provider from recordings saved by a streaming studio and from the archive YouTube may create after a live stream. The reviewed provider pages mostly state storage capacity—not how many days source files remain available.

What “video storage retention” can mean

Before comparing services, identify which copy of the video you mean. A loop service may keep the files you upload; a streaming studio may save recordings made inside its service; and YouTube may create an archive of a live broadcast. These are different assets, governed by different limits.

What is retained? What to check What the reviewed information establishes
Uploaded source media in a loop service Storage quota, file-count and per-file limits, any stated expiry period, and what happens when the account ends or reaches its limit LiveReacting and Gyre describe storage capacity and related operating limits, but the reviewed pages do not state a fixed number of days that uploaded source files remain available.
Cloud recordings made by a streaming studio Recording-hours allowance, behavior at the quota, deletion policy, and recoverability StreamYard documents an hours-based recording allowance and quota-related deletion behavior.
YouTube live archive Whether the broadcast is eligible to be archived and whether a local backup exists YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all.

A storage quota is not a retention period. For example, a stated number of gigabytes tells you how much data an account can store; it does not tell you how long a particular uploaded video will stay there.

How to compare services fairly

  1. Name the asset. Ask whether the service retains your uploaded source file, a recording of its studio session, or a YouTube archive of the broadcast.
  2. Record the limit in its actual unit. It may be days, gigabytes, file count, recording-hours, maximum file size, or broadcast duration. Do not translate one unit into another without a stated rule.
  3. Check the behavior at the limit. Find out whether new uploads or recordings stop, existing content is deleted, or the service documents no specific action.
  4. Check recovery. Determine whether deleted files can be restored and whether deletion is automatic or user-controlled. Do not assume recoverability when the provider has not documented it.
  5. Keep YouTube’s archive separate. A cloud provider’s source-file storage does not guarantee that YouTube will preserve a complete VOD of a continuous broadcast.
  6. Compare operating constraints alongside storage. File-size caps, account capacity, stream-duration limits, playlist behavior, scheduling, and pricing affect whether a service fits your workflow, but none is itself a source-file retention period.

For a documentary channel, this distinction matters if you want to keep a master file available for future loops, preserve a record of a broadcast, or make a YouTube archive available to viewers. Those goals may require separate copies and separate retention checks.

What the reviewed services say

StreamNeo: a cloud loop service with pooled storage per slot

StreamNeo runs uploaded videos as a continuous YouTube stream from the cloud. Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, and supports looping and playlists. That storage allowance describes capacity; it does not establish a fixed number of days that source files remain available. StreamNeo is the first option to consider for a cloud loop because it runs continuously without a home computer, accepts video at any quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.

LiveReacting: capacity and file limits, not a stated expiry period

LiveReacting’s pricing page describes account storage in gigabytes, maximum upload-file sizes, and stream-duration limits. One plan configuration shown on the page lists 30 GB of storage and files up to 6 GB; other tiers list different limits. These are vendor plan figures shown on its pricing page when reviewed, and may change. They describe capacity and operating limits, not a guaranteed number of days before uploaded source files expire.

Check LiveReacting’s current pricing and plan limits before choosing a tier. Ask the provider about source-file expiry and what happens to files if you cancel or reach the storage quota; those answers are not established by the stated capacity figures.

Gyre: cloud storage and looping, without a stated day count

Gyre describes uploading videos to Gyre Storage, creating a looping playlist, scheduling a continuous broadcast, and running it through cloud infrastructure. Its pages describe storage capacity by plan, but do not establish a fixed source-media retention period in days. Treat those product descriptions and plan details as vendor statements, and confirm current limits and account terms directly.

StreamYard: recording-hours and quota-driven deletion

StreamYard is principally a streaming studio and recording-storage comparison, not a dedicated 24/7 loop service. Its Help Center describes storage in recording-hours: Core and Advanced plans have 50 recording-hours according to the help page reviewed in 2026. When an account exceeds its available hours, new studio recording may stop; automatic deletion can remove the oldest recordings chronologically to bring the account under the allowance. StreamYard says recordings deleted this way cannot be recovered. Check the current plan and help information before relying on a particular allowance.

Read StreamYard’s storage explanation for the quota and deletion details. Do not compare its recording-hours directly with a loop service’s gigabytes: they measure different kinds of stored content.

YouTube’s archive is not the provider’s storage policy

YouTube Help says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours long, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” It also warns, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all,” and recommends recording a local archive as a backup. This is YouTube’s guidance about live-stream archiving, not a promise about how long a loop provider keeps uploaded source media.

For a 24/7 broadcast, do not treat YouTube as a guaranteed complete archive. If you need a durable master or a complete record, preserve a separate copy under a storage policy you control. See YouTube Help’s archive live streams guidance.

DVR is a viewing feature, not long-term retention

YouTube DVR lets viewers pause and rewind a live stream while watching. It does not define how long a provider stores uploaded source files or how long a saved recording remains available. See YouTube Help on turning on DVR for live streams.

Questions to get answered before you upload

  • How many gigabytes, files, or recording-hours does the plan include?
  • Is there a per-file upload cap or a maximum broadcast duration?
  • Is a retention period stated in days, and does it apply to source files, recordings, or both?
  • What happens when storage fills or an account is paused, downgraded, or cancelled?
  • Can deleted files be restored, and is deletion automatic?
  • Does the provider’s answer appear in current account terms or documentation?

If you need a contractual number of retention days, ask the provider directly or consult its current account terms. The reviewed pages do not establish a fixed source-file retention duration for LiveReacting or Gyre.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Videos stream as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot; if YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month.
