Choose a YouTube restreaming service when you are producing a live show and want to send that live feed to multiple platforms or channels. Choose a playlist-loop service when you want prepared video files to play continuously or on a schedule as a YouTube Live broadcast. Some products offer both workflows, so compare the exact feature, limits, and plan you intend to use—not just the vendor’s category label.
Start with the source: live production or recorded files?
The key difference is what the service receives. A restreaming service distributes a live production; a playlist-loop service plays prepared media files as a live broadcast. That distinction determines the equipment, bandwidth, interaction, and service limits you need to evaluate.
| Decision point | Restreaming or cloud relay | Playlist-loop service |
|---|---|---|
| Source | A live, actively produced event or show. | Uploaded, prepared recordings arranged in a sequence. |
| Main purpose | Send one live production to several channels or platforms at once. | Keep prepared programming available as a YouTube Live broadcast for longer periods or across time zones. |
| Operating setup | A local encoder produces the live source; a cloud relay can distribute one incoming stream to multiple destinations. | A cloud service plays uploaded files, so a dedicated always-on computer and its continuous home upload connection may not be needed. |
| Interaction and control | More suited to a live presenter, production control, and live chat. Restream describes cross-platform chat and connected-channel features. | Prepared media is less suited to spontaneous participation. Check whether chat, graphics, and playlist changes are available while the broadcast is airing. |
| Limits to verify | Destination count, supported platforms, custom RTMP support, resolution, and plan limits. | Whether repeat applies to one file or a whole playlist, playlist duration and item limits, storage, simultaneous streams, and recovery behavior. |
Choose a live restreaming service for simultaneous distribution
If a presenter, camera crew, or live production system is generating the show in real time, restreaming is the relevant workflow. YouTube describes a cloud service encoder as receiving one high-quality live stream and distributing it to chosen channels, resolutions, or platforms. Alternatively, a local encoder can generate multiple streams on the creator’s device.
Check your destinations and encoder setup
- Count the platforms and accounts that must receive the broadcast. Confirm direct integrations or whether a destination accepts standard RTMP details.
- Check whether the service supports the resolution, destination count, and custom RTMP destinations your production requires.
- For a local encoder sending separate streams, estimate the combined target bitrate. YouTube recommends aiming for upload speed 1.5 to 2 times that total and running a realistic speed test. Its example combines 6 Mbps and 4 Mbps targets and suggests 15–20 Mbps upload speed.
- If this is the channel’s first live stream, allow at least 24 hours after the first request for activation, according to YouTube Help’s guidance checked October 3, 2026.
When sending the feed through a cloud relay, confirm the incoming-source requirements and each destination’s limits for the specific plan. YouTube also recommends monitoring stream health during the broadcast.

Restream’s documented features and limits
Restream documents both multistreaming and pre-recorded video features. Its free option is described in its pricing FAQ as supporting multistreaming to two of its listed channels. The service’s pre-recorded capabilities do not mean every plan supports unrestricted playlist looping.
As documented by Restream Help Center on July 25, 2026, its Marathon plan was listed at $79/month, with a 4-hour video library and up to 1080p; its Media plan was listed at $239/month, with a 12-hour library and up to 4K. These are vendor-listed price and capacity snapshots, not independent market averages, and they can change. Check current plan details before buying.

Choose a playlist-loop service for prepared programming
When the content is already recorded and the goal is a continuous or scheduled YouTube Live broadcast, compare cloud services that play uploaded files. Before committing, establish whether the service repeats a single video, a whole playlist, or both; then check total duration, item count, storage, concurrent streams, and what happens after an interruption.
Why “playlist” and “loop” are not the same feature
Restream’s documentation distinguishes its repeat feature from its playlist feature. Its paid video-loop feature can repeat one video up to 10 times, with a maximum stream duration of 40 hours; that feature does not provide native playlist looping. Separately, Restream’s documented playlist can run up to 24 hours and contain up to 40 videos on specified paid add-on tiers. These limits are from Restream Help Center pages dated March 11 and July 25, 2026, respectively; confirm current availability and plan requirements.

A documented playlist-loop example
Looping Stream describes a cloud workflow in which a creator uploads media, orders files into a playlist, supplies the destination’s RTMP details, and runs the broadcast without keeping OBS or a personal computer online. Its product page, checked October 3, 2026, listed a new-user trial of 7 days and 24 total streaming hours, with 1 GB storage and one simultaneous stream. Trial terms can change. The provider also says interruptions remain possible, including from platform outages, invalid keys, or source-file problems; this is a provider statement, not an independent uptime assessment.
Ways to keep prepared video live on YouTube
For recordings, decide whether to operate the playback locally or delegate it to a cloud playlist service. A local setup gives you direct control, but it depends on your encoder, computer, and internet connection remaining available. A cloud playlist service instead plays uploaded media; check its actual playlist and recovery features rather than assuming every service handles a full sequence the same way.

Use a local encoder or relay when you need hands-on control
- Confirm the channel can go live. If this is the first live-stream request for the channel, allow at least 24 hours for activation, as stated in YouTube Help’s guidance checked October 3, 2026.
- Choose the source workflow. For a live production, configure the encoder to send the live source. For recorded programming, arrange the files in the playback order your encoder or local workflow supports.
- Connect the destination. Use YouTube’s live-stream setup to obtain the stream key and enter it in the encoder or relay destination settings. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish or share it. If the key is invalid or changed, update the destination configuration before restarting.
- Check upload capacity for local simulstreaming. Add the target bitrates for all locally generated streams, then aim for upload speed 1.5 to 2 times the sum. YouTube’s example of 6 Mbps plus 4 Mbps targets calls for 15–20 Mbps upload speed. Test the actual connection under realistic conditions.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. Confirm the intended YouTube destination is receiving the feed and watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators. A local workflow requires the computer, encoder, and network connection to stay operational for the broadcast.

Check rights and YouTube’s live-stream rules
Using a service does not grant rights to the media or remove the channel’s policy obligations. Google’s live-production guide says content in live streams must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, and advises securing clearances for the live stream, rebroadcast, and any audio or video on demand. The guide states that streams up to 12 hours are automatically turned into a video-on-demand on the channel; it advises teams to record longer streams for manual upload if needed. This is an operational note in a live-event guide, so check current YouTube settings and policy for your channel and event.
Looping Stream likewise advises using media you own or are authorized to broadcast. Confirm that your permissions cover the intended live transmission, any rebroadcast, and any resulting on-demand copy.
Make the decision with this checklist
- Is the source a live, actively produced show or a set of recordings?
- How many platforms and accounts need the broadcast, and do they accept RTMP or offer a direct integration?
- For local encoding, can the computer encode reliably and can the internet connection meet YouTube’s combined bitrate guidance?
- For prepared media, does the feature repeat one file, a full playlist, or both? What are the duration, item-count, storage, and simultaneous-stream limits?
- Do you need live chat, spontaneous presenter interaction, or the ability to edit a playlist after playback begins?
- What does the required plan cost now, and which functions are included rather than sold as add-ons?
- What does the provider say happens after a network interruption, invalid key, source-file error, or platform outage?
- Do you hold the rights needed for live transmission, rebroadcast, and any on-demand copy?
Compare services by the exact job
Restream’s documented combination of multistreaming and pre-recorded video features makes it an option to investigate if you may need both workflows, but its playlist and repeat features have distinct limits. Looping Stream is a documented cloud playlist example. For a dedicated YouTube broadcast of prepared videos, StreamNeo is the first service to try: it runs the uploaded playlist in the cloud, supports up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and includes a free first day. If the source is a live production destined for several platforms, prioritize a restreaming workflow and verify destination support, bitrate requirements, and the current plan limits.
