Then test it against comparable streams and judge results by subscriber gains, watch time, retention, and traffic sources—not a single peak in concurrent viewers. No niche is a proven universal winner; the right choice depends on your audience, interests, skills, and rights to the material.
Start with the reason someone would leave the stream on
Define a specific audience and recurring use before choosing a format. Viewers might want background listening, focused study, ambient scenery, a live community, or another experience they return to. A niche is easier to explain when it answers a clear question: who is this for, and what do they get from keeping it available?
Use audience-language searches to discover comparable streams. Phrases such as “24/7 lofi radio,” “study with me live,” “rain sounds live,” and “live gaming stream” are useful starting points, not evidence of measured search volume. Note what existing channels offer, how active the competition appears, and whether there is a narrower need they do not serve clearly.
Compare niche ideas on the same criteria
Assess each candidate consistently rather than selecting one because it sounds popular. A crowded format can still work with a clear difference; a less crowded one may have limited demand. Consider:

- Audience demand: search interest and viewership on comparable streams.
- Competition and differentiation: the number of established streams serving the same need and the specific angle you can offer.
- Creator fit: your knowledge, interest, access, and ability to keep the concept coherent.
- Content supply and rights: whether you can create or properly license enough suitable material for continuous playback.
- Production effort and reliability: the amount of live hosting, moderation, updating, and technical oversight required.
- Audience relationship: whether viewers have a reason to subscribe, return, chat, or recognize your channel.
- Commercial fit: possible revenue or partner categories, considered only after audience fit is plausible—not on unverified earnings claims.
Use familiar formats as hypotheses, not rankings
TheLoops’ niche guide offers examples worth investigating, but its descriptions are publisher judgments rather than independent market forecasts:
- Lofi music: described as having a large audience and high competition. A narrower mood, audience, or presentation may make the channel’s offer more distinctive.
- Ambient sound: positioned for relaxation, with possible seasonal demand. Consider whether the atmosphere and sound sources can be sustained and differentiated.
- Gaming highlights: potentially engaging, but sourcing footage and handling copyright are important challenges.
- Study streams: may benefit from regular new material; decide what viewers will return for beyond an uninterrupted loop.
- ASMR: quality-sensitive, so sound capture and consistency matter to the experience.
- Radio talk: can build a recognizable voice or community, but typically calls for more original content and ongoing effort.
These examples do not establish which format will attract subscribers for your channel. Treat each as a candidate to validate against audience demand, your capacity, and the material you can use lawfully.

Make sure the content can sustain a continuous stream
A 24/7 format needs enough suitable material and variety to avoid relying on an extremely repetitive loop. There is no established universal minimum duration for a content library; what is enough depends on the format and how noticeable repetition is to viewers. For music and other reused media, verify that you have the necessary rights before broadcasting. A commercial setup guide recommends copyright-cleared music and ample material, but any hours it suggests are its own rule of thumb, not a YouTube requirement.
YouTube requires live content to comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Rights clearance and platform-policy compliance are separate checks: permission to use material does not guarantee that every use meets YouTube’s policies. Review the relevant terms before making a loop public.

Test the idea and measure more than peak viewers
Run a bounded test, then review comparable periods and formats in YouTube Studio. YouTube analytics can report new subscribers during a stream, watch time, average view duration, average and peak concurrent viewers, retention, chat activity, traffic sources, and playback locations. Interpret measures together: one high concurrent-viewer peak does not tell you whether people watched for long, subscribed, or returned.
- Set the test up clearly: choose one audience, format, and distinctive angle, and record the period you will evaluate.
- Keep comparisons fair: compare equivalent time windows and formats where possible; note meaningful differences in content or promotion.
- Review the reports: inspect subscriber gains alongside watch time, average view duration, retention, traffic sources, and concurrent viewers.
- Choose a next move: continue, refine the angle, improve the content supply, or test a different candidate based on the combined pattern—not an unsupported growth promise.
Account for how YouTube live works
YouTube describes live streaming as interaction with an audience through live video, chat, and related features. Available approaches include mobile, webcam, encoder, and console streaming. Encoders can support gameplay, overlays, microphones, cameras, and other production hardware, making them relevant when your concept needs a more produced live presentation.

Discovery depends partly on the format and viewing context. YouTube describes channel live areas and, for vertical live streams, the Shorts feed; its creator guidance also describes dual horizontal and vertical streaming. Choose a format and discovery plan that suit the experience you are making rather than assuming one layout suits every niche.
Live revenue features listed by YouTube include ads, Super Chat and Stickers, gifts in select markets, and channel memberships. Availability depends on eligibility and settings; YouTube says ad serving is not guaranteed for every viewer. A niche alone cannot support a reliable income forecast.
