Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Change an alert sound in the alert provider’s settings, not in OBS Studio. In Streamlabs, open Alert Box settings, choose the specific event—such as a new follower, subscription, or donation—replace its sound, save, and test it before going live. If you use OBS, it usually displays the provider’s alert widget as a browser source; the provider is where you customize the sound.
Change an alert sound in Streamlabs
- Open Alert Box settings. Sign in to the Streamlabs dashboard and open the Alert Box settings.
- Choose the event. Select the platform and alert type you want to edit, such as a follower, subscription, or donation alert. Events are configured individually, so changing one event’s sound may not change the others.
- Replace the sound. Scroll to Sound. Remove the existing sound if needed, then choose one of the available options: enter an audio URL, upload an audio file, or select a sound from the Streamlabs Sounds Library. In the library, browse or filter for a sound; “bells” is one example search term in Streamlabs’ guide. Catalog contents and which sounds are free or premium can change, so check the current listing and terms.
- Save, then repeat if needed. Save the settings before leaving the menu, and repeat the process for each event you want to customize. Streamlabs’ quick guide warns users to press Save Settings before moving to another left-side menu item.
- Preview or test the alert. Trigger a test before going live and confirm that the intended sound plays through the audio output that reaches your stream.
Streamlabs’ guide, updated June 17, 2026, describes changing a sound with an audio URL, an uploaded file, or the Streamlabs Sounds Library: How to Change Streamlabs Alert Box Sounds. Use only audio you have permission to use, including in a monetized stream.
Change the sound in Streamlabs Desktop
- Add an Alert Box source in Streamlabs Desktop if one is not already present, then open its settings.
- Select the alert event you want to change and choose a replacement sound from the available stock audio or an audio file you have rights to use.
- Choose Done to save the change, then preview or test that event before going live.
This is the currently documented Desktop workflow; interface labels can change. Streamlabs alerts can also be used through its OBS plugin or as a browser source in other streaming software.
Change alert sounds when using OBS Studio
OBS Studio can display an alert provider’s widget as a Browser Source. In that common setup, OBS displays the alert; the provider controls the sound assignment and other alert settings.

- Open your alert provider’s dashboard and customize the relevant event’s sound there.
- Copy the alert widget URL from the provider, if you have not already added the widget to OBS.
- In OBS Studio, add a Browser Source and paste in the provider’s widget URL. If the source already exists, use that source rather than adding a duplicate.
- Test the alert and confirm its audio is routed to the stream output you intend to use.
OBS’s documentation describes using alert providers such as Streamlabs and StreamElements and directs users to the provider for alert images and sounds: OBS Project: Alerts.
Change a sound in StreamElements
StreamElements confirms that its AlertBox is customizable, including sounds and alert variations. Open the AlertBox in the StreamElements Overlay Editor and check the controls currently shown in your account to find the sound setting for the event you want to edit. The exact current menu labels and steps can vary, so do not assume that Streamlabs’ controls apply to StreamElements.

Choose a sound source
| Option | Convenience and control | Availability and reliability |
|---|---|---|
| Provider sound library | Quick to browse and select; less control than managing a sound you chose yourself. | Catalog contents and free or premium terms can change. Check the provider’s current listing. |
| Upload your own audio | Lets you choose a sound that fits your channel, but you must select and manage the file yourself. | A local upload avoids relying on an external URL remaining available. Use audio you have rights to use. |
| Audio URL | Lets you link to a chosen sound without uploading it through the provider’s file picker. | Depends on the linked audio remaining accessible. Confirm the provider’s current behavior and use audio you have rights to use. |
Streamlabs documents all three routes. Its guide does not establish a universal file-format or upload-size limit, so check the current controls and requirements in your account rather than assuming a particular limit.

Troubleshoot a silent, missing, or doubled alert sound
- The alert appears but is silent: Check that a sound is assigned to the event that fired, that you saved the change, and that the alert source’s audio reaches the stream output. If you record multitrack audio, verify the relevant audio-track selection as well.
- The wrong event plays the sound: Reopen the provider’s settings and check the sound assigned to that specific platform and event. Follower, subscription, and donation sounds may be separate settings.
- The sound plays twice: Check whether both a provider app and OBS are active for the same alert, or whether duplicate sources are sending the same audio. These are possible causes, not the only ones.
- A URL-based sound stops working: Check whether the linked audio is still accessible and valid, then test the alert again. An uploaded file can avoid dependence on an external URL.
- The alert works in preview but not on stream: Check the source’s audio routing and the output or track selected for the stream or recording, then test again.
Or let it run in the cloud
Changing an alert sound is separate from keeping a live stream running. If you also want a pre-recorded YouTube channel stream to stay live 24/7, StreamNeo uploads and loops your videos from the cloud; it does not go live from a camera. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home, including your computer or streaming software. Each slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, with one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo or start the free day.
