You can change your SoundCloud public name and profile URL separately. SoundCloud calls the public name your display name; changing the profile URL—the part after soundcloud.com/—requires a computer browser, not the mobile app.
Change your SoundCloud display name and profile URL
- Sign in to SoundCloud in a computer browser and open your profile.
- Click Edit below the profile header.
- To change the name listeners see, edit the display name field.
- To change your profile address, click the pencil icon beside the profile URL and enter a new slug.
- Check that the slug follows the rules below and is available, then save.
- Open the new profile address in a private or incognito window to confirm it works.
SoundCloud’s controls can move as the interface changes, but the profile-page Edit button and pencil icon beside the URL are the relevant controls. For the official procedure, see SoundCloud’s profile-name and URL instructions.
Display name and profile URL are different
“Username” is often used informally to mean your public SoundCloud name. The help center calls that name your display name. You can use spaces and capital letters in it, and it can be up to 50 characters. Your profile URL is a separate, unique address. Changing one does not automatically change the other.
For example, your display name could be Jane Doe while your profile URL is soundcloud.com/jane-doe. Choose a name listeners will recognize and, if consistency matters to your project, consider matching your other artist profiles. A clear, consistent name may help people identify you, but it does not guarantee better search placement.

Profile URL rules
The URL slug—the part after soundcloud.com/—must be unique and between 3 and 25 characters. It can contain only lowercase letters, numbers, underscores, and hyphens. It cannot contain spaces, uppercase letters, other punctuation, or the word “SoundCloud.”

Can you change it on a phone?
You cannot change the profile URL in SoundCloud’s mobile apps. SoundCloud’s localized help information indicates that changing the display name may be available on mobile, but the safest route for changing both fields is the desktop website.

Think through the URL change before saving
A new URL can be worthwhile if your current slug uses an old project name, includes unwanted personal information, or is difficult to share. But SoundCloud does not redirect visitors from your old profile URL to the new one. Treat the change as link maintenance, not just a cosmetic edit.
Before changing an established address, save the old URL and make a list of places where you have shared it: your website, social bios, electronic press kit, link-in-bio page, YouTube descriptions, email signature, artist or label pages, podcast notes, promotional posts, and embedded players. Update those links as soon as the new URL is live.
SoundCloud says the new name and URL should appear in its own search immediately. Google may take longer to update its results because its indexing and cache refresh are outside SoundCloud’s control; no specific update time is guaranteed. SoundCloud also notes that embedded players posted before August 2010 will break after a profile URL change. Later embeds may still play tracks, but clicking through to SoundCloud can lead to an empty page. Replace old embeds where practical. These effects are described in SoundCloud’s URL-change guidance.

Changing your SoundCloud URL does not disconnect your account from the SoundCloud for Artists dashboard, according to SoundCloud’s account-management guidance.

The URL is taken
Profile URLs are unique. Try a modest variation that remains recognizable, such as adding a descriptor or separator: artistname-music, artistname_band, artistnameofficial, or artistnamebeats. The trade-off is that extra words or characters can make the address less memorable or less consistent with your other handles.
A URL can appear available and still be unusable because it is reserved, suspended, or otherwise unavailable. SoundCloud generally cannot manually transfer an inactive account’s URL. You can try contacting its owner, but release is not guaranteed. For impersonation or trademark concerns, use SoundCloud’s reporting process and be prepared to provide supporting documentation. The save button does nothing or the URL is rejected
First check the basics: 3–25 characters, lowercase letters, numbers, underscores, or hyphens only, and no “SoundCloud.” Then try a clearly different slug. If it still fails, refresh the profile-edit page and sign in again, or try another desktop browser or a private window. These browser steps are general troubleshooting, not a guarantee that a particular URL will work.
You reached a change limit
SoundCloud rate-limits profile URL changes, but its cited help page does not state a universal fixed quota. If you see a limit error, avoid repeatedly submitting variations. SoundCloud’s guidance suggests waiting until the following month and trying again, or contacting support through its AI agent.
Your old profile link stopped working
That is expected: SoundCloud does not provide redirects after a profile URL change. Replace the old link wherever you control it, and update or replace older embeds where possible.

Google still shows the old address or name
SoundCloud search may reflect the change immediately, while Google can take longer to recrawl and refresh its results. SoundCloud does not promise a specific indexing timeline.
