To run a jazz radio-style broadcast on YouTube around the clock, send a continuous audiovisual feed to YouTube Live through an encoder, either from a computer you keep running or a cloud service that relays prerecorded material. First make sure your channel can livestream, prepare a video to accompany the audio, configure the encoder to YouTube’s ingest recommendations, and test the feed. Most importantly, clear the rights for every recording you broadcast: owning a track or having a music-streaming subscription does not by itself authorize a 24/7 YouTube stream.
What you need for a 24/7 jazz stream
YouTube Live receives a feed created by your encoder; it does not provide the jazz programming or grant music rights. A radio-style stream therefore needs both audio and a video signal, such as a station image or a simple animation. The video can be visually minimal, but the broadcast must still be an audiovisual feed.
- A verified, eligible YouTube channel with live streaming enabled.
- A continuous audio-and-video feed, produced by local encoder software or relayed by a cloud service.
- A reliable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the chosen bitrate.
- Permission for the recordings and other content to be livestreamed to the territories where viewers can access the broadcast.
Check that your channel is ready
YouTube’s current live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. A live streamer must be at least 16. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so activate it well before the planned launch rather than on launch day. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
Choose how to keep the broadcast running
The main decision is whether your own computer will produce and send the feed continuously, or whether a cloud service will relay uploaded videos. Both approaches still send a stream to YouTube; neither supplies music rights.

| Option | How it works | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and start the stream. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud. | No home computer needs to stay on. Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made, at one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams of uploaded video, not a camera feed. |
| Local computer and encoder software | Run encoder software on a computer and send its continuous audio-and-video output to YouTube. YouTube lists OBS as open-source software available at no charge. | Offers direct control without an identified streaming-service fee for OBS, but depends on the computer, its power, your connection, and ongoing monitoring. |
| Other cloud services | YouTube’s verified-encoder listing names Gyre for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. It also lists AWS Elemental MediaLive as a broadcast-grade service. | Cloud relay avoids keeping a dedicated PC on, but check each provider’s current pricing, feature limits, and service terms. MediaLive is an advanced option; the available information does not establish its cost-effectiveness for one jazz station. |
For a local setup, YouTube’s verified-encoder list is a place to check supported software and services. No option can guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast: local power or network failures can interrupt a computer-based feed, and any cloud service is subject to its own terms and recovery behavior.
Set up YouTube Live and your encoder
- Enable live streaming: verify the channel and complete any required activation. Allow up to 24 hours the first time.
- Create the live broadcast: in YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live, then set up the stream in Live Control Room. Follow the current on-screen prompts for the stream title, visibility, and other broadcast details.
- Choose an encoder: install encoder software such as OBS, or choose an appropriate cloud relay. YouTube’s encoder workflow is for sending the feed you produce; it does not select or clear the music for you.
- Connect to YouTube: copy the stream key from the live setup in YouTube Studio into the encoder’s streaming settings, and use the server/ingest details YouTube displays there. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with an untrusted service. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in Studio and update the encoder.
- Build the program feed: add the jazz audio and a station visual or animation. Check that the visual remains suitable throughout the broadcast and that the audio is audible and free of clipping or unintended silence.
- Start a private or unlisted test: inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages, then check playback from the watch page and a mobile device before announcing a public launch.
YouTube’s stream limits guidance states a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key. These are platform limits, not a recommended way to divide one station’s programming; consult YouTube’s current live-streaming restrictions for applicable details.

Use compatible video and audio settings
YouTube’s general RTMP/RTMPS ingest guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, YouTube recommends a 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 kbps bitrate. Follow the current YouTube encoder settings guidance and the values shown in Live Control Room if they differ.
- Choose resolution for the actual picture: a static station image or low-motion animation generally does not need an unnecessarily high resolution. Use a resolution and bitrate your connection can sustain consistently.
- Keep bitrate constant: use CBR if the encoder offers it for the selected format.
- Set keyframes to two seconds: do not exceed YouTube’s stated four-second maximum interval.
- Set stereo audio deliberately: use 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps as YouTube’s stated recommendations for stereo, and make sure the encoder is actually sending stereo if the program is intended to be stereo.
- Check codec compatibility: choose one of the codecs YouTube lists for the ingest type you are using.
There is no single video bitrate in the cited general guidance that suits every resolution and network. Select from YouTube’s current settings for your chosen resolution rather than treating a high bitrate or 4K output as a default requirement.

Protect upload capacity and test reliability
YouTube says the stream bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. A speed-test result is not a guarantee of sustained upload performance, particularly if other devices or applications use the same connection.
- Measure upload speed at the location and time you expect to broadcast.
- Choose an encoder bitrate that leaves at least the recommended 20% room below available upload bandwidth.
- Account for other simultaneous uploads and any backup feed you configure.
- Test with representative audio and visuals. Watch Live Control Room’s stream-health messages and check the actual stream from another device.
- While live, keep an eye on audio/video quality and stream health. YouTube notes that network disruption can break the live feed.
See YouTube’s network and bandwidth guidance. A successful short test is useful, but it cannot prove the local network or encoder will never fail during a longer broadcast.

Clear the music rights before going live
YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the content provider to have the rights needed to exploit the live content throughout the relevant territories, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. The exact permissions depend on your jurisdiction, audience territories, catalogue, ownership, and existing agreements. Confirm the rights chain for the particular recordings with the relevant rights holders or a qualified adviser; the setup information alone cannot identify the licences needed for a particular station. Read YouTube’s livestream terms.
A composition and a particular recording are not the same rights question. A public-domain composition, an old recording, or a track available through a personal streaming subscription does not automatically clear that recording for worldwide YouTube livestreaming.

YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content. If a match is detected, YouTube may interrupt the broadcast. Even if you have a licence, the stream can still be interrupted unless the relevant music owner adds your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Ask the rights holder about allowlisting before the broadcast, and see YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
Common problems and what to check
- Live streaming is unavailable: check channel verification, eligibility, and any live-streaming restrictions. If this is the channel’s first livestream, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- The encoder will not connect: confirm that it is using the current server/ingest details and stream key shown in YouTube Studio. If the key may have been exposed or is outdated, reset it and update the encoder.
- Stream health reports instability or the broadcast drops: check sustained upload capacity, reduce the encoder bitrate if it exceeds available bandwidth, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and look for competing uploads or network interruptions.
- Audio is silent, distorted, or not stereo: check the encoder’s audio source, channel layout, sample rate, and bitrate, then listen to the stream itself rather than relying only on the local monitor.
- Music triggers a warning or interruption: do not assume the match is mistaken because you own the recording or have a licence. Confirm the relevant rights and ask the rights holder to allowlist your channel in Content ID where applicable.
- The stream is live but the visual is wrong or frozen: inspect the video source in the encoder and verify the Live Control Room preview and watch-page playback before restarting or changing the scene.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, plus 24/7 looping, playlists, and StreamNeo team support. The first day is free with no card; one free day is available per account. UPI and cards are available in India, and card checkout is available worldwide.
Monthly service: $9.99 per month. For a jazz station, the cloud relay removes the need to keep a home computer running, but it does not clear music rights or make YouTube Content ID checks disappear. Start the free first day at StreamNeo registration.
