The most reliable way to stay spoiler-free is to treat the film as a logistics-only project until you have seen it: get the date, venue or official service, runtime if you need it, and ticket details from an official page, then stop searching. Mute the title and related names, disable entertainment notifications, skip optional trailers and interviews, warn the people around you, and choose the earliest practical screening.
This matters especially for a deliberately secretive release. A surprise can be a plot turn, identity, cameo, genre shift, marketing reveal, review headline, thumbnail, or a supposedly harmless theory. The workflow below protects against all of those without requiring you to disappear from the internet indefinitely.
Why a secretive release needs a stricter spoiler plan
Some films are marketed through mystery rather than explanation. Their campaigns may reveal only a title, a mood, a short synopsis, or a carefully selected image. In that situation, ordinary browsing is not neutral: a search result, autoplay clip, cast list, review headline, or comment can answer a question the film intended you to have while watching.
A24 has demonstrated how tightly controlled access can be. On an A24 podcast in 2026, Skyler Gisondo described seeing Resident Evil in a screening room with a heavy door that was shut and locked, calling the experience “very top secret.” That account does not prove that every screening has identical security, but it is a useful signal: leaks, screenshots, and early reactions are realistic risks around a highly guarded production.

Spoilers are also broader than explicit plot summaries. A costume in a thumbnail can identify a character; a review can reveal that a film changes genre; a headline can confirm a cameo; a friend’s phrase such as “wait until the final act” can change your expectations. The goal is therefore not merely to avoid the word ending. It is to control the information environment around your first viewing.
Set your spoiler boundary before you look anything up
Decide in advance what you consider a spoiler. A strict boundary usually includes plot events, surprise identities, cameos, character relationships, major locations, creature or costume reveals, genre or tonal turns, the existence of a twist, review scores, and theories that point toward a solution. A more relaxed boundary may allow a one-line official synopsis and a basic cast list.
Write the boundary in one sentence so that other people can follow it: “Until I have seen the film, please do not share plot details, theories, casting confirmations, review headlines, screenshots, or comments about what I should expect.” If you are comfortable knowing only the premise, say that explicitly. Vague requests such as “no spoilers” often leave room for someone to think a reaction or hint is harmless.
Get logistics, then stop researching
Check only the facts needed to attend
Use the film’s official A24 page, the cinema’s own listing, or the official streaming service to confirm:

- age classification, accessibility information, and language or subtitle options when those affect your plans.
Stop as soon as those questions are answered. Do not scroll through related articles, cast interviews, user comments, or recommendation modules. Search engines can place plot-rich snippets and “people also ask” questions beside an otherwise simple date lookup.
Make a clean reference point
Bookmark the official film page or save the cinema confirmation email. Open it directly when you need to verify a time; do not search the title again. A direct bookmark removes the temptation to scan a results page whose headlines may already contain a reveal.
If you need to send the details to someone else, copy only the date, venue, showtime, and ticket information. A screenshot of an official schedule is safer than forwarding a page that may later display reviews or editorial recommendations.

Build a spoiler-free information boundary
Mute every version of the title
Before release day, use each social platform’s built-in mute, hidden-word, or keyword-filter setting. Add the full title, shortened title, initials, common misspellings, hashtags, and any distinctive subtitle. Then add the director’s name, principal cast names, and likely character names if those people are heavily discussed online.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesKeyword filters are imperfect. They may not catch images, coded references, emojis, quote-posts, or a screenshot with no searchable text. Treat muting as one layer, not permission to browse normally.
Include common spoiler language
Add terms such as spoiler, ending, twist, leak, review, reaction, explained, cameo, post-credits, and theory. You can also mute phrases that people use to hint without stating anything, including “you are not ready,” “wait until you see,” or “I cannot believe that scene.” Add only terms your service supports; some systems filter individual words but not exact phrases.
Silence notifications and group chats
Turn off push notifications from entertainment apps, news alerts, social networks, and video services for the period between the first public screenings and your own screening. Temporarily mute group chats where people are likely to discuss the film. Ask friends to keep discussion in a private, clearly marked thread until you have watched.
Do not rely on a notification preview being spoiler-free. A message that appears on your lock screen may include a headline, a reaction, or an attached image before your filter can act. If you cannot mute a conversation, archive it and disable previews.

The strictest option: no trailer
Skip trailers entirely if preserving uncertainty is more important than knowing the tone or premise. Watch only the official one-line synopsis, if even that. This is the safest choice when the campaign itself is built around withholding information.
The balanced option: one official trailer
If you need a sense of genre, length, or content before buying a ticket, watch one trailer on the official film page, with autoplay disabled and comments closed. Do not follow it with reaction videos, trailer breakdowns, fan edits, or suggested clips. A second trailer is not simply more of the same: later marketing often assumes the audience has seen earlier material and may reveal a new character, location, or turn.

The high-risk option: broad promotional coverage
Interviews, podcasts, press conferences, review roundups, and video essays can reveal how the filmmakers frame the movie even when they avoid explicit plot details. Ari Aster described the problem in an A24 podcast transcript from 2019: “I’d rather just never speak ever, and just release the movie, but you have to do the press, and it’s just a minefield because you just say something kind of flippantly, and then it becomes your statement on the film.” His comment explains why a casual sentence can become a headline that changes the way viewers approach a film.
Save interviews for after your first viewing if the film’s interpretation matters to you. Even a sincere comment about tone, influences, or a character can narrow the possibilities you are meant to discover yourself.
Protect yourself from visual spoilers
Images bypass many text filters. Avoid image search, fan posters, screenshots, quote-posts, autoplay clips, and thumbnail-heavy video pages before the screening. A single frame can disclose a costume, creature, location, production design detail, or actor who was not prominent in the campaign.
When opening a video platform for an unrelated task, avoid the home feed and recommendations. Go directly to a saved link, use a separate browser profile, or watch with the device offline if that is practical. Do not pause on a thumbnail while deciding whether it is safe; the image itself may already have answered the question.
Coordinate with people who may discuss the film
Give friends a specific instruction
Tell friends, relatives, coworkers, and moderators exactly what you do not want to know. Include theories, casting confirmations, reactions, memes, and comments about whether the ending works. Ask them not to mention that you are “going to love” or “hate” a particular part; an emotional prediction can be a spoiler in disguise.
Separate discussion spaces
Ask people to keep post-viewing conversation in a separate chat or thread marked with a clear warning. Do not open that space until you have watched. If your group uses a platform with spoiler formatting, require the warning to appear before the hidden text, not after it.

Plan for unavoidable contact
If you share an office, classroom, or household with early viewers, tell them your screening time and request a quiet window around it. Wear headphones in public spaces, avoid communal television screens, and do not ask someone who has seen the film whether it is worth watching. Their answer may reveal the film’s structure or mood.

Watch as early as your schedule allows
An early practical screening shortens the period during which reviews, leaks, and speculation can accumulate. You do not need to attend an inconvenient midnight showing, but choose the first realistic session that fits your travel, work, and safety needs.
Make the trip part of the spoiler plan. Buy the ticket in advance, save the confirmation offline, choose a seat that lets you leave notifications off, and arrange transport before entering the auditorium. Put the phone in a mode that blocks alerts rather than merely silencing the ringtone. Do not check social media while waiting in the lobby; a few minutes of browsing can expose more than the entire film’s official campaign.
If you are watching on an official service, begin at a planned time and avoid browsing the service’s home page beforehand. Open the saved title directly. Disable autoplay so that the next recommendation does not display a related film, review clip, or recap.
Is the A24 App safe before you watch?
The A24 App describes itself as offering “hundreds of hours of behind-the-scenes, interviews, and bonus features.” AAA24 membership is presented with benefits including “first looks, deeper cuts, free screenings, & exclusive perks,” along with tickets, gifts, discounts, and exclusives. Those are official sources, but official does not mean spoiler-free.
Use the app before viewing only for a clearly identified logistical task, such as checking an event or ticket detail. Do not open behind-the-scenes collections, interviews, bonus features, editorial feeds, or first looks unless you accept that they may reveal framing, production design, casting, or story information. If preserving surprise is your priority, save the app for after the screening and enter it deliberately rather than browsing its recommendations.
Availability, pricing, membership benefits, and title-specific material can vary by geography and change over time. Verify the current details in the app or on the official service before relying on a benefit, but do not assume that a membership area has been screened for spoilers.

Best Value
- The Google TV Streamer (4K) delivers your favorite entertainment quickly, easily, and personalized to you[1,2]
- HDMI 2.1 cable required (sold separately)
- See movies and TV shows from all your services right from your home screen[2]; and find new things to watch with tailored recommendations for everyone in your home based on their interests and viewing habits

| Source | Information risk | Convenience | Officialness | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Official release or cinema page | Lowest when used for logistics only | Requires an intentional visit | Attributable | Date, venue, runtime, tickets, classification |
| Official marketing extras | Low to medium; images and interviews may frame the story | Easy to access | Attributable | Only if you accept limited pre-viewing context |
| Professional reviews and interviews | Medium to high; headlines often signal structure or genre | Easy to find | Named but interpretive | After viewing |
| Fan speculation and algorithmic feeds | Highest; leaks, screenshots, theories, and targeted recommendations can appear without warning | Very easy to access | Often anonymous or unverifiable | After viewing, when you choose to discuss |
Timing changes the risk. Watching early reduces the number of reactions you must avoid; delaying means more reviews, clips, theories, and accidental headlines enter circulation.
What to do if you encounter a possible spoiler
Leave immediately
Do not keep reading to determine whether the post is accurate. Close the page, scroll away, or exit the conversation. Trying to verify a suspected spoiler usually supplies more context and makes the memory stronger.
Do not search for reassurance
Searching the title plus words such as fake, real, or ending creates exactly the results you are trying to avoid. Trust that the information is unverified and return to your clean reference point.
Reset your feeds
Add the account, phrase, or image-related term to your mute list, mark the post as unwanted where the platform allows it, and leave any thread that is discussing the film. If a friend sent it, ask them to delete the message and repeat your boundary without debating what it contained.
Keep the first viewing intact
A partial glimpse does not tell you whether a claim is true, out of context, or deliberately misleading. Do not let an uncertain fragment turn into a self-fulfilling prediction by replaying it in your head or looking for confirming details in trailers.
Re-enter discussion after the screening
Once you have watched, remove mutes selectively rather than restoring every feed at once. Start with official interviews or the A24 App if you want production context, then move to reviews and fan discussion when you are ready for competing interpretations. Aster’s observation about press language is a reminder that interviews can shape public interpretation; they are more useful after you have formed your own response.
When discussing the film with someone who has not seen it, ask what level of information they want before answering. Keep plot details, images, and theories behind a clear warning. Your own post-viewing enthusiasm should not become another person’s accidental spoiler.
A practical checklist for opening weekend
- Confirm the date, venue or official service, runtime if needed, and ticket details from an official listing.
- Bookmark that listing and stop general searches.
- Mute the title, abbreviations, hashtags, cast, director, character names, and spoiler vocabulary.
- Disable push notifications and mute discussion groups until after your screening.
- Choose no trailer, one official trailer, or a broader campaign knowingly; do not drift into the highest-risk option by autoplay.
- Avoid image search, thumbnails, fan posters, screenshots, and quote-posts.
- Tell friends and family the exact boundary and arrange a spoiler-marked discussion space.
- Book the earliest practical screening and prepare transport, phone settings, and offline ticket access.
- Open the film directly rather than browsing a streaming or social home page.
- After viewing, restore discussion gradually and use official extras for context only when you are ready.
The shortest rule is simple: obtain logistics from an attributable source, then stop feeding the algorithm questions about the film. Every optional click creates another chance for a headline, image, reaction, or theory to arrive before the story does.
