What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
YouTube Studio lets you create and reorder playlists, but its documented tools do not provide a native weekly recurring playlist rotation. For a small lineup, update the order manually each week. For a rotation that runs automatically, use an external scheduler with authorized YouTube Data API playlist-item operations. First decide whether you mean a playlist viewers play themselves or a continuous live broadcast: they require different workflows.
Choose the workflow that matches your “radio” channel
| Approach | Automation | Setup | Can set exact playlist order? | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manual editing in YouTube Studio | None; a person makes the weekly change | Low | Yes, by arranging items manually | A small playlist and a reliable weekly editor |
| External scheduler plus YouTube Data API | Weekly job can make playlist-item changes | Higher; requires an external scheduler and authorized API access | Yes, when the playlist uses manual sorting | A recurring playlist rotation that should run without weekly manual edits |
| Scheduled video publication | Publishes an individual private upload at a chosen time | Low | No; it does not rotate an existing playlist | A release calendar for new videos |
| Scheduled live broadcast | Schedules a broadcast workflow, not playlist edits | Depends on the live setup | No; it does not rotate an existing playlist | A channel experience that is actually a live broadcast |
YouTube’s documentation checked on October 3, 2026 describes playlist creation and manual reordering, but not a built-in recurring playlist-rotation scheduler. The API route below is an implementation approach inferred from documented playlist-item operations; YouTube does not supply the external scheduler as part of those operations.
For a simple rotation, update the playlist in Studio
-
Open YouTube Studio’s playlist workflow and create a playlist, or open the existing playlist you want to rotate.
-
Choose the videos for the upcoming week. Decide in advance whether you are replacing the whole lineup or changing only selected items.

-
Set the playlist’s arrangement to manual sorting if you need a specific playing order, then drag videos into position.
-
Review playlist visibility and the final order before sharing or announcing the new weekly lineup.
This method is straightforward, but someone must perform and check the edit each week. For a sustainable schedule, pick a consistent weekly day and time, and tell viewers when the lineup changes. YouTube’s creator guidance recommends a consistent, sustainable release schedule and communicating schedule changes.

For automatic weekly changes, combine a scheduler with the YouTube Data API
The API supports playlist-item insertion and position updates. A separate recurring job must decide when to run and what lineup to apply; the API itself is not a weekly scheduler. Position updates require a playlist configured for manual sorting, and write operations require authorized credentials.
-
Define the rotation. Keep the intended lineup in a schedule or data file. Specify which videos belong in each week, their exact positions, and whether the job replaces the complete lineup or only changes a subset.
-
Set the playlist to manual sorting. Do this before relying on API position updates; otherwise the order-setting operation may not work as intended.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
-
Handle exceptions deliberately. Decide what happens if a scheduled video is unavailable, inaccessible, or no longer belongs in the lineup. Log failures and alert a person rather than silently leaving viewers with an incomplete rotation.
-
Monitor the first live runs. Confirm that the job ran at the expected time and that Studio shows the intended order. Keep a way to restore the prior lineup if an update fails or produces an unexpected sequence.
The API documentation notes that playlist-item operations can fail when an item is inaccessible or a playlist operation is unsupported. Check the current API permissions and error behavior before deploying; the integration approach is not a YouTube-provided turnkey rotation feature.

Do not confuse rotation with scheduled uploads or live scheduling
Scheduled video publication
YouTube scheduled publishing makes a private video public at a selected date and time zone. It can support a release calendar, but it does not reorder or rotate videos in an existing playlist. YouTube Help also notes that the watch-page publication date follows Pacific Standard Time.
Scheduled live broadcast
If “radio” means a continuous broadcast rather than a playlist viewers start themselves, use YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room workflow. For an encoder stream, YouTube provides a stream URL and key. The documented scheduled-live workflow is separate from playlist editing; YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
Series playlists
A series playlist identifies an official set of videos intended to be viewed together; it is not a rotation scheduler. YouTube says a verified account is required, each video can appear in only one series playlist, and only videos uploaded by the creator and rights-cleared by them can be added. See YouTube’s series playlist guidance before using that feature.
Plan the weekly schedule so it is dependable
- Choose a stable run time: use one weekly day and time that gives you room to review the lineup and notify viewers.
- Define what “rotation” means: replace every item, rotate a subset, or move items through a fixed sequence. Encode that rule rather than relying on an ambiguous list.
- Set an unavailable-video policy: choose whether to skip an unavailable video, retain the previous lineup, or pause for a person to intervene.
- Keep a record: retain the planned lineup, execution time, target playlist, and resulting item positions so you can investigate a missed or incorrect update.
- Communicate changes: give viewers a predictable expectation if the weekly programming changes or a scheduled update is delayed.
Troubleshoot common rotation failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| The playlist order does not change | The playlist is not set to manual sorting, or the job did not successfully apply position updates | Check the sorting mode, API response, and resulting order in Studio; test the update against a separate playlist. |
| The job cannot edit playlist items | The credentials lack the required authorization, or the item or playlist is inaccessible | Review the authorization setup and API error response; confirm the account can access the target playlist and item. |
| An item is missing from the expected lineup | The video is unavailable or the insertion/update operation failed | Check the item’s availability and job log, then apply the unavailable-video policy you defined. |
| The playlist changes at the wrong time | The external scheduler’s time zone or recurrence is misconfigured | Verify the scheduler’s time zone and next run time, and make the intended viewer-facing schedule explicit. |
| A scheduled video becomes public but the playlist stays the same | Scheduled publishing publishes a video; it does not rotate an existing playlist | Add a separate playlist edit step or use the API-backed weekly job. |
| A live event is scheduled, but the playlist is unchanged | Live scheduling controls a broadcast workflow, not playlist-item order | Manage playlist rotation separately, or use a cloud live-streaming service if the goal is a continuous YouTube broadcast. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If by “radio” you mean a continuous stream of uploaded videos rather than a playlist viewers start themselves, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live 24/7 from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. It streams what you upload at its original quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams, not editing the order of a public YouTube playlist. Start your free StreamNeo day.
