How to Rotate Hindi and English Playlists on One YouTube Livestream

Use OBS Studio’s VLC Video source to arrange Hindi and English files in blocks or alternating order, loop the playlist, and stream it to YouTube Live.

Use OBS Studio’s VLC Video source to play Hindi and English audio or video files in a planned sequence, then send the scene to YouTube Live. Put the files in the order you want, leave Shuffle Playlist off for predictable rotation, and enable Loop Playlist if you want the full sequence to repeat. OBS requires VLC to be installed for this source.

Choose how the languages should rotate

A playlist plays files in the order you add them; it does not identify Hindi or English or arrange tracks by language. Choose the sequence before you add files:

  • Language blocks: add the Hindi files first, then the English files (or reverse the blocks).
  • Alternation: add a Hindi track, then an English track, and repeat that pattern.
  • One pass or repeat: leave Loop Playlist off for one pass, or turn it on to restart the playlist after its final item.
  • Predictable or random order: leave Shuffle Playlist off when the planned sequence matters. Use shuffle only if you want the order to vary.

Prepare recordings you have permission to stream and put them in a folder you can find easily. Include any video files and artwork you intend to show; for audio-only tracks, plan a suitable still image or other visual for the scene.

Build the playlist in OBS

  1. Install VLC and open OBS Studio. OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC. If the source is missing, install VLC and restart OBS.
  2. Create a scene. In OBS, add a source and choose VLC Video. Add the Hindi and English media files to that source in the sequence you planned.
  3. Set playback behavior. Keep Shuffle Playlist off for a fixed order. Enable Loop Playlist to repeat the entire sequence after the last item.
  4. Set the visual layout. For video files, arrange the source so the picture fits the scene as intended. For audio-only playlists, add a static image or another visual so the live feed has an intentional picture.
  5. Check the sound. Play representative files and watch the OBS audio meter. Make sure levels are audible and not clipping, including when playback changes from one file to the next.

OBS documents audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV, and video formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM. Its VLC source accepts multiple playlist items and offers separate loop and shuffle controls. OBS media sources documentation.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. Open YouTube Studio. Choose Create → Go Live. Create a stream for now or schedule it for later. Scheduling can help you promote the event and let viewers request reminders.
  2. Find the encoder details. Open the stream’s settings or stream tab in Live Control Room and locate the server URL and stream key.
  3. Enter them in OBS. In OBS’s stream settings, select YouTube if available, or use the provided server details. Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key exactly. Treat the key like a password: it directs your encoder feed to your stream, so do not share it publicly.
  4. Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start streaming from OBS, then wait for the feed to appear in YouTube’s preview. Check the image, sound, stream health, file order, and loop behavior before making the stream public or starting the event.

YouTube’s instructions explain how to create or schedule a stream and retrieve encoder details: YouTube encoder setup and manage live stream settings. YouTube’s instruction for connecting an encoder is: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.”

Set quality and monitor the stream

Choose OBS encoder settings that your upload connection can sustain reliably. Test with representative audio and video movement, then review YouTube’s preview and stream-health indicators before relying on the playlist for a long broadcast. Keep OBS open and monitor the audio and picture during the stream; a working playlist does not by itself confirm that the encoder-to-YouTube connection remains healthy.

Protect the stream from copyright interruptions

Only stream music, recordings, video, and artwork for which you have the necessary rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the live video with a placeholder and warn you to stop using the content; continued use can interrupt or terminate the stream. A licence does not necessarily prevent detection: the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. An archived stream may also receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast ends. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Archives and long broadcasts

YouTube’s encoder setup guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is YouTube’s stated behavior, not a guarantee that an archive replaces a separately saved master recording. Keep your own copy if you need a dependable original recording. YouTube encoder setup.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • VLC Video is not listed in OBS: install VLC, then restart OBS so the source can load.
  • Tracks play in the wrong order: check the order of items in the VLC Video source. The playlist will not sort files by language. Turn off Shuffle Playlist for a fixed sequence.
  • The playlist stops after the last file: enable Loop Playlist if the sequence should repeat.
  • Audio plays but the stream has no useful picture: add and position a still image or other visual in the OBS scene.
  • YouTube does not receive the OBS feed: check that the server URL and stream key in OBS match the current stream’s encoder details. Keep the key private.
  • The preview or stream health shows problems: test the connection and reduce encoder quality settings if the available upload connection cannot reliably sustain them; inspect YouTube’s guidance and preview before going live.
  • The broadcast is interrupted after music or video starts: review the content’s rights and any required Content ID allowlisting. YouTube may scan again after the stream, including when it is archived.
