How to Add Podcast Cover Art to an Always-On YouTube Stream

Use an encoder scene to pair podcast audio with still cover art on YouTube Live. RSS podcast publishing creates episode videos, not an always-on stream.

To keep podcast audio playing with its cover art on a YouTube live stream, use an encoder: create a scene with the cover image as the visual and the podcast audio as the audio source, then send it to YouTube Live using the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. YouTube’s podcast RSS feature is different: it creates individual episode videos with static show art, not a continuous live broadcast.

Choose between a live stream and podcast episode uploads

Route What it produces Best fit Important limitation
Encoder-based YouTube Live A live audiovisual feed; the scene can show cover art while podcast audio plays. You want a continuous broadcast rather than separate episode uploads. Requires YouTube Live setup and encoder configuration. YouTube’s guidance does not promise indefinite uptime or specify a duration for this use.
RSS ingestion Static-image videos for podcast episodes, using the show art. You want YouTube to publish podcast episodes from an RSS feed. Available only in select regions. Changes to show details or replacement audio do not update videos already uploaded; re-uploading a revised episode creates a new video and makes the old one private.
Static-image or audiogram upload A regular on-demand podcast video. You want episode videos without RSS ingestion. This is an upload, not an always-on live broadcast.

YouTube describes a podcast as a playlist, with episodes as videos in that playlist. RSS ingestion can upload selected episodes and automatically upload new episodes added to the feed; it is not the method for keeping a live stream running. See YouTube’s RSS podcast instructions and guidance on distributing podcasts.

How to put podcast cover art on a YouTube live stream

  1. Confirm your channel can go live. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Check YouTube’s live-streaming tips for current eligibility guidance.
  2. Create a live stream in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and set up a stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key for your encoder. YouTube describes the key as similar to a password and address: keep it private and do not share it publicly. See Manage live stream settings.
  3. Build the encoder scene. Add the podcast cover image as a still visual and route the podcast audio into the scene as its audio source. The scene setup is a practical way to combine YouTube’s documented encoder workflow with a static image; YouTube’s reviewed help pages do not prescribe a specific scene recipe or encoder interface.
  4. Connect and inspect the feed. Enter the stream URL and key in your encoder, then check both the encoder preview and the Live Control Room preview. Confirm the image is framed as intended and the audio is audible before starting the broadcast.
  5. Start the broadcast and monitor it. The encoder sends the combined audio and image to YouTube Live. Monitor the feed rather than assuming that a still-image stream will run indefinitely without interruption.

Check rights and disclosure before going live

Use cover art, podcast audio, music, clips and other material you have permission to broadcast. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a detected match may cause YouTube to replace the stream with a placeholder image, interrupt it or terminate it. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

If the episode includes sponsorships or endorsements, follow YouTube’s branded-content disclosure requirements. Rights to publish an episode as a podcast do not automatically establish permission to include every third-party element in a live broadcast.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Plan for network interruptions

A live encoder depends on a stable connection. YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom in its general streaming tips. This is guidance, not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation: network disruption can break a stream, and YouTube’s reviewed material does not establish a specific uptime or maximum duration for this exact workflow.

  • Check that upload capacity is sufficient for the encoder’s outgoing stream, with the recommended headroom available.
  • Preview the feed before starting, and monitor the stream for loss of connection, missing audio or an incorrect image.
  • If the stream drops, inspect the network and encoder connection, then reconnect using the stream settings in Live Control Room.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want an uploaded podcast recording to loop on YouTube without leaving an encoder computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option. Upload your recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera. The stream can keep running with your computer off; it supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly is $9.99 per month.
