Facebook still supports adding songs to a personal profile and removing them later, but the feature is not available in every location or account. Profile songs are public, so do not add one expecting it to be visible only to friends. Menu names can also vary by device and app version.
Before you start
- Use your personal Facebook profile; these steps may not apply to a Page, group, or professional account.
- The Facebook mobile app is the most likely place to find the Music section. Facebook lists support contexts for Android, iPhone, iPad, desktop, mobile browser, and Facebook Lite, but the controls may differ.
- Facebook says profile music is unavailable in some locations. Having the latest app may be worth trying, but an update cannot guarantee access.
- Facebook profile songs are public, according to its Help Center. Treat the listing as visible beyond your friends list.

How to add music to your Facebook profile
These are general mobile-app steps; Facebook may show different labels or arrange profile sections differently.
- Open the Facebook app and sign in.
- Tap your profile picture or open Menu, then tap your name to go to your personal profile.
- Find the Music section. If it is not immediately visible, expand the profile sections or look for an option such as See More About Yourself.
- Tap Add music, Add song, or the plus button.
- Search by song title, artist, or album, then tap the track you want.
- Repeat to add other songs. Facebook says you can add as many profile songs as you like; it does not give a numerical limit in the cited Help Center result.
The selected track should appear in your profile’s Music section. This selects a song from Facebook’s available catalog; it is not a way to upload an audio file from your phone. Facebook’s profile-music help page confirms the add feature, but exact labels can vary: Facebook Help.

How to remove a song from your profile
- Open Facebook and go to your personal profile.
- Open the Music section and find the song you want to remove.
- Tap the song’s three-dot menu, or choose Edit if Facebook presents a list-editing view.
- Choose Remove from profile, Delete song, or the equivalent control, then confirm if prompted.
If you see a control for removing the whole Music section, use the individual song’s menu instead when your goal is to remove just one track. Removing a song from the profile removes its profile listing; it does not delete the artist’s recording or erase a separate Story, Reel, or post that used the same song. Handle that other content separately.
Who can see and play profile songs?
Facebook says songs added to a profile are public, so do not rely on the normal audience selector for posts to restrict this listing. Removing a song is the practical way to stop it appearing in your Music section.

A public listing does not guarantee that every viewer can play the full recording. Catalog availability, licensing, location, and whether someone is logged in can affect playback. Facebook documents broader music-rights restrictions for content such as posts, Stories, Reels, and live broadcasts; those rules should not be treated as proof that every profile-song playback issue has the same cause: Facebook Help: Music guidelines.

Facebook lists music for Live broadcasts, Reels, Stories, and text posts separately from profile music: Facebook Help: Music guidelines. A Spotify, Apple Music, or other link in your Intro or About information is also separate from the built-in Music section. Facebook distinguishes Intro information from other profile information: Facebook Help: Intro section. Its Featured section is separate as well: Facebook Help: Featured profile content.

If the Music option is missing
A missing control does not by itself mean Facebook has removed the feature. Facebook still documents adding and deleting profile songs, while also noting that availability is limited by location. Different account rollouts and profile layouts can also affect what appears.
- Confirm you are viewing your personal profile, not a Page.
- Look through the profile sections and expand any collapsed area; Music is not necessarily under Intro, About, Featured, Stories, or Reels.
- Update Facebook from your device’s official app store, then force-close and reopen the app.
- Sign out and back in, or try the Facebook mobile app if you were using a desktop or mobile browser.
- If available, check from another supported device. Facebook lists Android, iPhone, iPad, desktop, mobile browser, and Facebook Lite contexts, but their interfaces may not match.
- On Android, clearing the Facebook app cache may help with an app problem. On iPhone, reinstalling is a possible app-troubleshooting step.
- If the option remains absent, use Facebook’s Help Center or the in-app Report a problem option. Location or account availability may be the reason; updating or reinstalling is not guaranteed to enable it.
If you cannot find or play a particular song
Facebook’s catalog can vary by country, and not every song, artist, album, or recording is necessarily available. Try searching the exact title and artist, or an alternate recording if one exists. A track missing from search may reflect catalog or regional rights limits rather than a problem with your phone.

Music rights can also change. Facebook says content using music may be muted or blocked if Meta no longer has the relevant rights. That guidance concerns music use in content such as Stories, Reels, posts, and live broadcasts; it does not establish that every profile song that disappears or will not play has been affected for that reason. Choosing a track from Facebook’s catalog is different from uploading copyrighted audio independently. Facebook’s music guidance describes geographic and content limits, and says rights changes can lead to muting or blocking in covered content formats. Do not assume its video guidance creates a specific clip-length rule for simply listing a song on a profile. Avoid third-party sites that claim to unlock profile music or ask for your Facebook password.
